Nowadays, more and more students do part-time jobs because of a shortage of money and enrichment work experience. But many of their purpose is to make money to share some responsbilities. They don't want to ask their parents for money. It's good to have such a good intention. Whereas some students are made leave off their studies by school. Because they can not pay much attention to their studies and fail to get enough credit. I'd like to konw your idea on this issue: shoud students do part-time jos? How can they strike a balance between making money and studies?

I don't see why parents are expected to pay for post-secondary education. You are an adult when you enter college or university, so your parents are generous enough if they allow you to live with them while you go to school.
I worked 20 hours a week and was a full time student for 2 years. Then I moved out, so I paid rent and bills for myself and worked full-time, going to school part-time, for 3 years. I never had to take a loan or go into debt, and my marks were always B+ or better (usually A- and better.)
There were days where I would go to work and teach a fitness class for an hour, bike to school and have a class at school, and bike back to work for another 5 or 6 hours. I did that 3 times a week for a whole year.

Oh no, don't feel shamed! If your parents are letting you live with them, you are lucky, and should just remember to be a respectful son or daughter (sorry, can't tell from your name and picture). If you are studying a complicated subject matter it will surely be easier for you to only work a few hours a week for some extra money, and not go crazy stressing yourself. Perhaps your parents really want you to get the best grades possible, and are supporting you in this.
My parents and I had a very stressful relationship when I still lived with them. They treated me like a child and did not let me have much independence. Also, it was hard for me to live with them because we all have volatile personalities. Since I have been on my own, our relationship is much better :)
So, my example was an extreme one to show you that it is possible for you to add a part-time job in if you manage your time, not a lecture to tell you to do what I did!
Just remember, save as much money as you can while you live with your parents and don't have to pay bills. It is so easy to waste the money on "fun things" but you will be greatful you had the extra saved up once you move out on your own.
Good luck!

I think it is a good idea for students to have a part time job as long as it doesn't interfere with the quality of their studies. It helps them learn responsibiity for one. It also helps them learn how to manage their time which is a very important life skill...

This is true as well. But if one can manage studies and a job it is a very good life exercise!

i don't see anything wrong with that... i also work part-time in the past when i was still studying because i have to help to pay for the living expenses... time management and self-discipline are a must to be able to juggle between these two... and i see many people managed to do it including myself... so i didn't see anything wrong in that... take care and have a nice day...

If not mistaken, you misunderstood my question. I did not mean that diong part-time job is wrong. I think it is honourable and considerate. I just don't konw how to strike a balance between part-time job and sudies. You can manage it and that is worth doing part-time job. Thanks for answer this question.

Students ith part time jobs should be applauded and praised for their efforts. Sometimes students may take on more burden than they can handle. You must know your limitations. As long as your grades don't suffer, a part time job for a student can make life worthwhile.

Well as a student I can tell you that I have a part time job as well as some small sources of internet money. They don't take away from my schooling and it means I will have some money for spending and to help pay for the schooling.

I know a few people who do part time jobs and they still manage to balance their school and jobs. If someone really needs a job, then, he can at least look for a pretty simple job that he can really do while studying. Students must not exhaust themselves with very hard jobs.

I have the same question to a some of the students I know. They work 30 hrs a week and at the same time, a full time student, I really don't know how they manage their time as well as studies!

I don't see anything wrong in students taking on part-time jobs to help pay for their educations. It has happened as far back as I can remember even though tuitions fees were not so much then. But now, they are astronomical and the less debt they have when they leave university the better. I don't think things are going to change back to cheaper tuition for some time to come, especially here in the UK as we are all having to dig deeper into our pockets to pay for stuff that is essential to us. _Derek

In my opinion it is just a matter of setting one's priority. I have once been a working students during my two years in college. I learn a lot from it to value my time and spend money wisely. My studies is not affected by my work, because i made it to a point that academics is still may priority so i would record my lectures and some important matters to study and listen to it while im working. So i learned multi-tasking. While going to work i listen to it and when i am about to report to my class. To sum it up if there is a will there is a way.

I believe that students should get a part time job. It makes then get use this hard world that comes with adult hood. They need to know how to balance there time however. After working hours should be time for studying and not time for playing. A lot of students who do part time jobs spend there free time going to parties etc. That can't be done. That free time I can't be wasted like that. You will have money to party when you get good grades and start your full time job. You will be able to go to all the high standard parties then. If you waste your time now you will end up partying with little bit of money at this age but later in life won't be able to party at all since you won't be able to find money to party especially if you get a family. So its better to don't waste your time after your part time job and just study. And you can have a few parties yes but that is after you do your exams and is time to relax your mind. I hope this little thing I put together help you. If you find it interesting you could choose it as best response. I would really appreciate that thank you. And happy myloting from your FUTURE neurosurgeon.

Well if they think that they can handle the balance, then go for it. Who am I to stop people who want to contribute to society in a positive manner. However, if they are not able to manage their time wisely, then a part time job might not be the best idea. Some students still have not gotten the time management thing down. So they might not be able to handle a part time job. Still if they can handle it, then go for it.

There is nothing bad with it. The students can use their spare time to do something more productive if they want to. For me, it's good as long as they know exactly what they're doing and can manage both things, it can be hard to sustain a work and college and keep good performance on each.
It may be bad if they decide to leave their studies for a temporary work, but in that case parents should tell him to keep their studies.

Yes, I find your post very true and informative. I can relate to this because I'm also a working student. And yes, I agree with you that most of the time I fail to pay proper attention to my schooling. Most of the time, I pay more attention to my job because I'm afraid to lose it since it's my first job and it helps me a lot. I do part-time jobs because my allowance is not enough to cover all my needs at school. It's just enough for my food and transportation allowance, but nothing else more. Anyway, if you're good at multi-tasking and time management, then you can give positive results both in school and at work.
