Crazy Laws in the United States

We used to be a free country with people coming here to have the ability to be free to say what they wanted and do what they wanted. Now it seems the only reason why they come here is to get a handout and to enforce their old country's laws upon us.
If you read this article you'll see some of the crazy laws forced upon us by states and the federal government. California itself has many laws that are just as insane such as jail for parents whose children are truant and forcing people to use those new light bulbs that have mercury in them (yeah, so good for the environment. LOL)
What do you think of all the new laws?

Looks to me like these are all reasonable laws. I think it is wise not to dump computer/printer in the everyday trash because of the mercury content. Also, I think it's also fair to collect data on the races that are being stopped...racism in some form does still exist today...unfortunately. All these laws make sense to me.

No, Laglen, collecting data about race is not racist. It's the improper use of that data in a way that unfairly favours one race against another which is racist.

Hi Snbutterfly,
I live in the States and it has been a law for quite some time for the parents to be held accountable for their kids attending school. I had one daughter that used to skip school on a regular basis. I got taken to court and got charged 6000.00. I had to fight the fine and I won. I won only because I was pro-active in trying to get her to school and working with the school to keep her in once she got there. There are some parents that don't bother and don't care to even try to get their kids to school. When a 1st grader misses more days than not, unless that child has an illness then I would say that it probably is the blame of the parents. Kids need their education whether they like it or not and we need to hold them accountable. Can you imagine what society would turn into if we let every kid that didn't like school just drop out? As for the lightbulbs, I didn't see that in the list you provided. I haven't heard that it is a law. I know we have some crazy laws but then again...we always have.

I read the link butt it said nothingg about light bulbs or jails to truant children´s parents.
Nevertheless, I think that is is better to appeal to coomon sense than to make such laws. I suppose that a parent who is not capable of having his child go to school every day is better than not having any parent at all because said parent is in jail. As for light, in our country, last year our Presidents asked everyone of us to try to change light bulbs if posible because it would mean an energy savings to the country. The country gave a good answer and a lot of energy was saved. But she did not enforce it.
I am happy to say that I live at a reasonable free country. In some ways it´s a lot more free than the US, in others it´s less.
We have a lot to fight for. Restrictive laws don´t help freedom.

Some of them are just over the top. It is not California with the whole light bulb thing. They are actually going to stop manufacturing the old kind and we will be forced to buy those odd looking dangerous ones. My wife and I have stocked up big time on light bulbs. I don't think we should be forced in to such things. As for the parents of truant kids going to jail, that might be a bit harsh too, but they do need to make parents more accountable for their kids, at least kids 16 years and younger, and older then that and it gets harder for some parents to control their kids.
