why Asian people more likely to whiten their skin while Americans more likely to blacken their skin?
It seems Asian people like white skin more.
in their opinions, beauty should be white skin, white skin can cover all the urgliness .
As a Chinese lady, I think this works .
I have white skin since I was a kid, people always said: your skin is so good, you are so white. you are so clear.
I never thought this is good or not before people told me : that person's skin is so black, so urgly. then I know white skin here in China really have advanteges, especially Female.
I am curious about people's thought about skin color.

I don't know of such things going on. How do asians "whiten their skin"?? Are you talking about some sort of bleach or something? And I can't even really imagine what you mean by Americans "blackening their skin". Are you referring to tanning?
At any rate, I don't go tanning. I don't see the point in it. Anyways, I don't believe that skin color is important at all.

sorry for the confusion, I mean Asian people more likely to make themselves looks much whiter, it includes bleach or make up or other ways that can make them looks much whiter,
and I mean it seems some Americans likes to make their skin looks much blacker, for they think this seems healthier .

Oh I don't know why people do it. I guess it is just another weird cultural thing. I like my skin to be light. I just think that I look better that way; it just fits me. Plus I wear a lot of black and other dark-colored clothes and I like the sort of contrast. I would never want to bleach or tan my skin though. I like it just the way it is.

This is what I don't understand for Asian people, friend. Because European and American want there skin to be black...
But why African, people is not interested for whitening skin also. This reason is really so much vague for me. I try to think why but not come to conclusion...

culturally, the skin tone people find aspirational is related to appearing wealthy.
just within the UK, this has changed over the years. once pale skin was considered a sign of wealth, as it indicated that a person did not do manual work outdoors.
over time, a tan became popular when it was considered a sign of being able to afford to stay outdoors in the sun and relax, or even afford a foreign holiday.
personally I try and keep my skin as pale as possible. I wouldn't use any skin lighteners, as they can't possibly be safe to use. if I thought they were, I probably would. I keep my skin pale by protecting it from the sun, staying in the shade, using high factor sunblocks and a parasol. this is also a good thing as sun damage is one of the main causes of aging on the skin.
and by keeping my skin pale it looks more even and more glowy.
I just don't like the look of a tan. the skin looks drier, and it is sun damage after all. it seems odd to think that sun damaged skin looks healthier than undamaged skin.

Good Day!
Well here in Asia most of the people wants a fair skin because having a fair skin is more noticeable. It depends, like what you've said, Americans want darker skin tone. I'm a morena. Medium color so I'm in between but I do love my color but sometimes I wish to have a whiter skin if I'm here in Asia and I'm contented with my skin tone If I'll go to America.

Well, white skin is usually the preferred color of skin because it signifies beauty and wealth. Also, it is already proven that males are more likely prefer a fair maiden to another who isn't. Having white skin means an affluent living lifestyle that does not include manual labor or exposure to the sun in a long period of time. People usually go for white becuase it resembles purity.

I agree, but we are also talking about is this also because Asian people wants to be better so just immitate the white skin people from the developped countries? For they think that is nice and they are from the developped countries.
Besides, is this because this is a humman nature eager to own things that I do not have but think of that is beautiful?

Skin color: Human nature is such that we over look what we possess and feel other's possession is very nice and we want to own it. White people want dark skin and dark want white skin . We must realize beauty never lies in white or dark skins. Beauty lies in all creatures irrespective of their colors. White skin We feel covers all ugli features. Dark skin hides all beauties. I don't think this is true. Beauty lies in all creatures created by god. we must find out what speciality we have . Some have good color, some good personality, some good body cut, some have beautiful dimples in cheeks, Like wise we all possess some beauty. Even in white skin there are so many shades. Some shades r very attractive . Like wise in dark also so many beautiful personalities are there.
WE ALWAYS FEEL OUR COLOR IS NOT GOOD. WHETHER WE R WHITE SKINNED OR BLACK SKINNED WE DEFINITELY POSSES SOME BEAUTY.
WE FIND SOME WHITE PEOPLE LOVE DARK PEOPLE.
So what I feel is beauty never lies in color it lies in features

Yes, every skin color is beautiful in God's creature, but beacause of the weakness of human being, because of some historical and cultural or experience reasons, some people want to change their skin color to live a more satisfied life, to be much more happier....these are human being's eager to be better. One of the most important question is to know who I am, what I can change to be better, and what I can't change but just accept the fact, if we always thinking of appearace things, this world would dissatisfied us. So to change our attention to focus on the right things is a good way to live a really happy life.
I wrote this topic just because one of American friends go back to USA to look for some bleach make up for a Asian friends but find nothing at all. Then we discussed about this. And I got more than what I want here, thanks!
Have a nice day!

Samaveda, the only reason some Black people wanted White skin was because that was the way to succeed in this world. Mainly though, there might be dark dark skinned Blacks who use skin whiteners. But most dark skinned people see themselves as sexy (ever heard of "the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice"?) and their skin is beautiful. They don't have to worry about growing old and seeing the veins in their arms, hands, and legs. If given the choice between being dark black and ghost white, I think most folks would pick dark black.

Maybe because most Asians are dark and having a fair skin stands out so assume to be prettier. We like to think that because we are brown and yellow people that we do not have color prejudices. But we do and we have always had. In our culture, we have always preferred the fair-skinned. The prettiest girls are always the fairest. The fair ladies in our community were the first to get married as Asian men also prefer fair skinned women.

Well the beauty of everything depends upon the beholder. Each people has each own view of what is beautiful and what is not and this applies to the color of the skin. We can't really say that which of the skin tone is the most beautiful because there are people who are dying to whiten their skin but there are also those who are doing everything to have a good tan. All I know is each skin tone has beauty in its own. All we had to do is just to keep our skin healthy and glowing no matter what color we have.
Nice day to you!

I believe that the problem of Asians wanting white skin and Caucasian Americans wanting dark skin is mainly a matter of wanting what one does not have. "The grass is always greener on the other side of the street." It applies to other things other than skin color. I have straight hair but have always wanted curls. My daughter has the kind of hair that I always dreamed about, dark brown and curly. She hated her curls so much when she was a teenager that she used to use my iron to try to make it straight. In the area where we live there are many Hispanics. They generally have darker skin, dark brown or black hair and brown eyes. When I was younger, I would have gladly traded my dishwater blond hair and blue eyes for dark hair and brown eyes. Don't they realize that dark skin and brown eyes offer better protection from the sun?
Regarding my skin color, although I'd like it to be a little darker, I'm generally satisfied. I'm white but not corpse white or florid like my father, and I don't sunburn easily.

Question: Is it true that Asian women are submissive and walk three feet behind their husbands? [Just asking]

While working at the amusement park I first became aware of that. I had some a Thai girl and two Singapore girls talking about the Thai girl being dark. When I laughed, she gave me a naughty look. The thing is that the two Singapore girls were darker than the Thai girl and the one Singapore girl was darker than me! I also went to some sites and read where, like you said, Asian men prefer white skinned Asian women. Most of the world's people have melanin in their skin and White skin is really a minority. Dark skin is a very beautiful color, especially the gold tans some girls such as this Ukraine girl I knew, had. But I've seen beautiful dark skin on Asians, Indians, American Indians, Middle Easterners, Italians, and of course Africans as well as African Americans and South Americans (Brazilian women are hot!)

I am lucky like you because my skin is fair; maybe because I have 1/4 Caucasian blood. But you know one of my sister have tan skin and three of my brothers too. I think they have my father's skin tone. I don't discriminate colored people. In fact I love people with tan skin.

skin color: It is very natural to overlook what we possess and go for other's possession. God gives beauty in all colours and features. Human nature generally feels that others' color is nice. Dark people want white skin and white people want dark skin.
when the colors of heart and mind changes we go for other people's colors. I feel beauty lies in features not in colors. Even dark people are beautiful with their dark long hair big eyes, and pointed nose. I request all people to find out the beauties given to us by god irrespective of our colors.
some have beautiful body cut, some with dimple in cheek, some look beautiful when they walk, some have charm in their eyes. Likewise, God gives some speciality to every creature he creates.

it's strange why some people are concerned with things that don't last
if they have white skin, then they think tan skin is great
and then vice versa
in fact as far as beauty goes, skin color is only a small part of it
it has to be clear of acne, breakouts etc
teeth have to be even and not too big or too small
hygiene is maintained and no overdo make ups
not to mention moisturizer because dry fair skin is scarier than a mummy's skin
I have seen many beautiful women of all skin colors
I am tan in the face, and almost white in the body
because most of the time it's my face that is exposed

Asian people or those dark/tan colored people wants to make their skins whiten in any way because they think that those who have fair completion are clean with their bodies, it adds beauty to a person. I know this because I am an asian. A Filipina. But I'm not tanned but fair enough to be contented with my color.

The answer to that is these people are not contented with their skin color. Some White/Caucasian people would prefer to be what they call "tanned" to look "pretty". And on the other hand, some of the "tanned" Asians prefer to be "white" because they look "pretty" as well. Asian people use glutathione to whiten their skin as glutathione has a side effect to whiten people's skin and make it fairer and "smoother" as some glutathione products claim. White/Caucasians use the tanning booths or tanning lotions etc. to get "darker" or a little on the "brown-ish" side color. In my opinion, I don't think it matters what skin color you have or how pretty you appear to be in the world's view, it all comes down to how "beautiful" you are on the inside that counts, never your skin color. And to top it off, it's just a waste of money trying to modify or change your skin color.

i think this is a bais about skin. Some of the asian argue that white skin can show their beautiful.we can very easy to know that most people prefer the white which is represent purity.for example, people seem to more like a white paper without dirty.i think this example is the similar as the why asian people like to whiten their skin.

It is a matter of perception. Because of globalization and the media's hype, people think that being white-skinned is beautiful.
They think this way because many of the famous and beautiful actress are white like Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, etc...because of this, people think that they need to be white to become beautiful. This perception is also intensified by the fact that local actresses imitate the Hollywood actresses and local actresses do many things to become white.
