I've been using Canon for my point and shoot camera. So far, it's been working fine with me. The quality of the pictures are ok for a point and shoot camera. I'm still thinking about upgrading to a DSLR camera, I'm just not sure yet if I'll get a Canon or Nikon DSLR.

I did a good amount of research before buying my digital camera a few years ago. I heard a lot of great things about Nikon and so I ended up purchasing a Nikon digital camera. I have had really great success with this camera. It takes great pictures and I'm quite happy with it. When I go to purchase another digital camera, it will most likely be another Nikon!

I think it depends on what your needs are, but my first camera was a sony, so the first reply is right, they are a good camera. The one I have now, my husband bought for under 100.00 and it is a kodack camera. It seems to have the same quality as the sony, plus it goes with my kodak printer..lol

No, No-one really knows which is the best brand - but it is one of these: Leica, Leaf of BetterLight. Brands you may never have heard of with price tags that are staggering - A low-end Leica would set you back more than $7000, Leaf backs start around $30,000 and then things start to get pricey! None of these shoot video.
Even though the Canon 5D Mark II (about $4000) was used to shoot the entire House Series final, if you want to shoot video, a video camera is a better buy. It isn't a question of the quality of the images you get, it is about the way they are set up - to do good video with a camera designed for stills, you need accessories to steady the camera, allow proper panning, and allow the camera to be zoomed and focussed smoothly.
If all you want is a decent camera to take pictures and the occassional video, and you son't want the expense of a single-lens reflex (the cheapest is with true HD video is about $900 from Nikon or Canon) then consider a Panasonic, Canon camera in the $400-$500 range.
if the video is more important, buy a video camera and add a $200 compact for the stills. You will finish up spending under $1000.

I have been using Canon for a long time and I really like the quality. For me it is a good camera and most of the time the digital camera dealer will recommend Canon.
Now I use Sony T-99D and it is a good camera. I like the feature and the shot are great too. It is a touch screen camera so the screen will have a lot of finger prints which sometimes irritate me a bit because I always have to clean it.
My sister use Panasonic Lumix and I like it also. I haven't see how the picture look like at computer or if it is develope but the picture does look good.
I also have try Nikon and Olympus which I didn't fancy at all. The quality is not that good eventhough it is cheap.

I use Sony cameras to take pictures and videos. I love the quality and would recommend it to anyone. I say you should just look around in the market as Cannons are also nice.
