since I've been over here it took me about 10 minutes to realize that I had to login to start a new discussion. I need some place to vent...
Let me start by saying I'm not trying to get into any kind political debate here. I live in Tucson Az...where Gabby Giffords and 19 other people were shot on Saturday. One of the people who was killed was a 9 year old girl:( Now Westboro Baptist Church has released a statement saying that they plan on picketing at this child's funeral! I'm all for feee speech ( I practice it myself quite often) and I understand the right to peaceably assemble...but I don't understand why these people think they have the right to disturb and harass grieving families. Personally, I find their behavior dispicable and wish they could be stopped from coming here. Do they not realize what a traumatic time this must be for that child's family? Do they not care or have a single ounce of human decency? And how would they feel if it was their loved ones funeral and a wingnut, hate group showed up and started screaming God hates America?

Hello Skyhss,
It's nice to know that some one from long while came back to this site. well, I wasn't born in the cave knowing just knowing arizona for those terrible events, i know it's a great state too. but some bad things just happen. I guess there are really some Americans who don't deserve SUch a weapon.
I have been watching these Irritating and Non-sense(for me) Group in youtube videos and it's really crazy reality seeing these videos. It literally promotes hatred in all sense, If that person were to do that in my country, He will face the wrath of the public in mourning.
as for that family who founded this disturbing So called Xtian Religion..this is the only that i saw that took a stand against their founder

Skyhss-
Welcome back to Mylot. Why am I not surprised that the WBC would be involved with statements of this nature? I used to live in Arizona, for five years, and I have many friends on Tucson, as well as all over and this entire thing makes my stomach turn. I don't want to get into any political arguments either, I just want all this violence to end!

Hi Anora. I threw that in there just in case someone thought I was against free speech or something.
I know this is kind of naive but attempted assassination of politicians isn't something you expect to have happen here...maybe in Phoenix but not down here. Tucson is a politically diverse community but we keep our differences of opinion very peaceful.

Well, that's probably why it occurred there to be honest. Some delusional kid saw an opportunity where security would be at a low and where "no one would expect it". It happens in small towns all the time unfortunately. I'm not saying we should all go around paranoid, but having a healthy dose of situational awareness and not believing that things would never happen is the best. Just from the point of view of self defense one should never adopt the attitude that "It's such a nice place, nothing bad would ever happen" because that sort of line of thought lowers one's defenses so to speak and put you in a bad predicament.

Quite unfortunate indeed. If they were the ones personally affected, I am sure they would be screaming for privacy. If only people thought about feelings more so then ratings/popularity. Ugh.
