Funny you should say that. I just started a topic earlier about using the search engine, before posting a topic. LOL What I found out is that apparently the search engine isn't the best, because I did a search before doing the discussion, only to find out another person posted one yesterday, very similar. I also just answered a question regarding the quality of discussions posted earlier today. It is difficult for those of us wanting "meatier" discussions to deal with the "yes" and "no" answers, and hopefully that will change. Try and check out some of the other discussion on the topics that are similar to this one. It will help to find like minded people that want real discussions. I am glad you posted this one too though.

Also, if you post a good discussion and get a lot of responses, you get paid for those, too. So, it pays to have good, quality discussions where a lot of people have opinions to post.

I'm not sure exactly how to respond to this question. I've only been a member a short time and I have noticed that some people don't really have a discussion. But, I have posted a lot of what people would call "nonsense" because I like to ask questions about food, which is of interest to me.

Thanks.
I've not only noticed that, but I've noticed that people will post discussions and not follow up or cultivate the responses. They don't follow up on responses or give quality replies. That irritates me a little. When two people talk, they don't always just say one thing and the other say "Thanks". The other person will reply back.
I know that it takes a lot of time to do that and if you're just in here for the money, you probably wouldn't want to waste your time.

yes, most (not all though) are here for the earnings and not to participate seriously and intelligently in the discussions. like when i want to get information about portland, coeur d'alene, and colorado springs since my husband and i are planning to move from Ca, there were a few who cared to help me out. and voila, i got more info from yahoo-answers, real helpful info there from members who participate in yahoo discussions in a genuine, no-nonsense manner. same thing goes with my other sensical posts, some even toyed with it putting "i don't know" answers, sigh. i wish myLot members will get a lil serious about posting coz sad to say, i'm somehow pulled to join the daft wagon. sometimes it's fun but hey, some discussions need some serious responses.

I don't think the search engine is very good. I've remembered questions that I wanted to go back and answer. I've searched for them but they don't come up. I do search before I ask a question but don't usually get a similar hit. Later, however, I'll see the question has been asked several times already. Besides, with so many members, there has to be some duplication or there would be no more questions to ask. I believe your question has been asked several times, for instance.

I agree. When I first started here, I tried using the search engine. Most of the discussions posted were either not sufficient or almost totally unrelated.

Yes its true, most of us,probably including myself don't search before making a new topic, why? becouse i don't care, if there is a competition with the same question, i want to win it!! so its not about what we talk its about how you ask the question and are you able to convince the rest of you to answer to you and not to the another ?

To be honest... People use the internet to get answers NOW... If that means they have to make another topic for discussion so be it... People HATE searching around the net to find something they could get a response to in 3 sec... Versus searching and it taking forever to get exactly what they want.

Whenever you add money to the equation then yes, you will end up with crappy discussions. As far as the search engine, maybe the new people don't realize yet to use it. Granted, I wish they would use it.

well its inevitable, i guess, of the 37,000+ members you cant filter everyone and demand that they post discussions of relevant issues. it sad though but i guess its part of it of the whole system :)
