What is wrong with people and keeping dead bodies?

The other week there was a post about a 90 something lady who kept her husband and sisters bodies in her home. Now there's a man in Japan who's been keeping his father's body in his closet for 5 years & collecting his father's pension checks too! http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNews/2011/01/06/16784841.html I believe there was a man doing this here in the USA for a number of years. I wonder whatever happened to him? It's all just too darn strange to me!

For some, it is like you said, a matter of continuing to collect the pensions for the deceased. For others I think it may be a mental illness. Some deluded people even talk to their dearly departed.

I think it's a combination of things in this case. I would think one would go mad with trying to make up where so & so is? why no one has seen him in years ect? I know people do talk to their dearly departed just like people talk to God. Now if they were talking like they were in the room with them that's a whole other issue in my opinion.

I have heard several stories over the last few years about people keeping their deceased loved ones(or maybe NOT so loved ones) in closets or basements or wherever just to keep on getting their social security or pension checks. It just sickens me that there are people so greedy that they would do something like that.

3SnuggleBunnies I was just reminded of a story I had to read in the U for my literature class about an old lady who kept the body of her husband'in her bedroom for years, now I cannot remember the name of the story or the author. but in reality oh wow they must have serious mental issues. the Ninety year old lady might have gone bananas for sure. How on earth did they stand the stench of rotting flesh or were the kin somehow mummified? yuck I was ill today and now my tummy is roiling again. My imagination is too vivid. oh my gosh the Japanese man is in serious trouble using his dad's pension checks. How awful. If I remember in the story about the old lady keeping her husband in her bedroom she left a rose each day for him.that story really gave me the heebie jeebies for sure I know I got a good grade in that class but I still do not remember the name of the story except I believe it had a rose or roses in the title. lol,.

I am sorry but that is creepy! What are people thinking doing something like that! Especially for financial gain, it's despicable! What do they do, also get their prescriptions refilled so that it looks like they are still living? Such disrespect to their loved ones!

Now that's pretty weird and gross. How can people stand the smell for one thing? Don't they think that maybe it's odd the way they are acting by keeping these bodies? I think these people have some serious separation issues.

I believe my mother would have done the same thing, had she had the chance! Getting her out of her house in which they bought 54 years ago was looking for a shoe horn that would fit, She would have done anything and I mean anything to stay in her home if it was available to her! Very few feel comfortable leaving this life. They don't understand!

I saw an article in the paper last week about A Mother and Her Daughter being investigated for the discovery of the grandmother's body in the same house, and they'd continued to claim her pension..they had apparently then made an excuse that the old lady was reclusive and wouldn't leave Her room...here's the kicker..It was estimated the old lady had passed away 6 months previously..definitely some sick people out there..
