On responding to discussions here in mylot, do you consider if the discussion was made by a newbie or an old timer? We all know that there are so many newbies who doesn't understand what the + and - for, and for that we end up losing our precious star rating . So lately, I don't respond to discussions started by a newbie especially when I don't agree with their discussions. What can you say about it? Do you do it to?

I don't care very much about my 'star rating'. I know that some people will 'neg' me if I say what I think (and I always do). This happens most in the 'Religion' and 'Politics' sections but that makes no difference to me: if I feel that I have something valuable to say on a topic, then I will generally say it.
I like to respond to discussions by a 'newbie' if they seem to be good discussions. I will also respond even if I am pretty sure that it will be deleted (and even if I have reported it) because newcomers have to learn what MyLot is about and, if their discussion is deleted, they tend to learn very little. They NEED to know why and how to avoid it. That is why my inbox is full of 'Notifications from MyLot' ... and why my 'Best Responses' folder gets fuller every day, even though a high proportion of those 'Best Response' discussions no longer exist.

for me..it depend on the discussion tittle...i'm a newbie and still don't really understand what mylot is all about...i'm not an english native speaker and that limiting my idea on what to discuss about too...there are many ideas but have problems on translating it to english since majority of myloters are using english..so, for now, i just focusing on responding to discussions posted by others..without considering whether they are newbie or old timers.. :)

That is good, so you can practice english . But I am talking abou the star rating, and I do hope you know what it is for and how to use it. It will affect your earnings and your reputation here.

I don't like to see the new users struggling and if I see them trying their best to fit in, even if the topic is something that I am not familiar with, I will participate in it. I feel it spurs them on to continue here and we need them to bring us new topics and new viewpoints to discuss.
Did you know that new users, until they reach 100, cannot rate others?

I answer any topic that interests me, plain and simple. I don't judge who's new and who's an old-timer. Reason being, is that I was once a Newbie, made my mistakes, and learned from them. I think all newbies should be given a chance, in my opinion. Don't worry, they'll catch on sooner or later! :-D
As far as rating goes, although I do like to be a ten, I don't actively strive for it, I just make sure that I'm within MyLot discussion guidelines as much as I'm able. I happen to like the fact that we should be as discriptive as possible in our posts - it gives the discussion more meaning. Maybe it's because I'm a deep kind of person.
As for posts like poll-type questions and the like, I'll avoid those, as I know they'll get deleted, however, I had been deleted before for answering some questions. No biggie, we win a few, lose a few, just like we do in real life :-)

I don't really care if the discussion was started by a newbie or not. What I care is if the discussions is something I can relate to. The star rating doesn't mean anything to me either. To me My Lot is a place to share opinions with others whether they are agreeable with the opinions or not. Actually it is interesting reading all the opinions in My Lot.

I'll respond to anything I feel is interesting to me. I maybe new to this site, but not to the internet. I remember when 54kbs internet speeds where around. I remember when the old bbc, atari, comador amiga, +4, 16 + 4 and 64's as well as others where around. I wonder if a new discrimination needs to around. ITisum, computerisum or something of that nature. Not to talk to somebody as they maybe a newb is just not cricket. In my mind it's just common manners to talk to anybody...if it intersts you of course.

I am finding it harder and harder to find good things to respond to. There use to be good stuff but now its, what's your favorite color, do you like pizza and silly stuff like that. There are also people on here that start a topic just to argue with people and make them think their opinion is wrong. Those are the people to try and stay away from. I'm getting close to my $10 payout and probably won't be back on here or at least not as much because of things like this.

I am not choosy in responding to a discussion.provided that it catches my interest,i will definitely respond to it.so sad that our newbies are not oriented on the proper use of the + and - sign.every time that i respond to a discussion of a newbie, i make it sure that my response is a quality one so he/she will not see any reason for me to be rate negatively.i also include in my response to his/her discussion to read about discussion guidelines to guide him/her and to avoid him/her violates the guidelines.i am really hoping that newbies will be fuided accordingly by old members in the site.happy mylotting.

I think the most old timers (the fanatic ones) only gives (-) when we don't follow rules of mylot. I am staying away from make extra money section too as hard as I can. But I can't help but keep on posting there anyway... not that I am not following rules, it is just that I have many information about it, so I wanna help others.
How are you?

I respond to discussions based on topics that interest me. It does not matter if newbie or veteran. If the discussion is later deleted, no problem. I don't believe chosing discussions based on length of time of the person that posts helps anyone. But then again, to each his/her own.

For me as long as i find the topic interesting i respond to it. It doesn't matter to me if he is a newbie or an old timer. In fact, today i have been answering topics started by newbies and they are all nice topics.
