Greetings!
Yes. We do learn from our mistakes. We're just afraid to make mistakes because we're afraid to be corrected in an unwanted way. Like in a class, every mistake has a corresponding punishment. Every mistake we make has a corresponding consequence which is not good that's why its a mistake. I'm also afraid of making mistakes because I'm afraid to be corrected in an unwanted way too. I don't want to be punished or I don't want others to tell me I'm insane, crazy, out of my mind, no commonsense, something like that because those words hurt. I don't feel good hearing those words and it makes me feel frustrated and disappointed for myself too. That's my point of view. We're afraid of mistakes because we're afraid to be corrected. Happy mylotting!

People can be very rude, and they don't at times know the true meaning of constructive criticism. Ty:-)

It depends on how big the mistakes are and what the consequences are. Some mistakes, like forgetting to put a question mark at the end of a sentence have no consequences, but bigger mistakes can ruin peoples lives...marrying the wrong person, sleeping around, all of these have huge consequences...and of course, people would be afraid to make these kind of mistakes. I made four big ones in my life and now I am suffering the consequences more than anyone can ever realize.

Although the mistakes you refer to maybe be big, the key is you learned from them I'm sure. (God Bless)

i don't know if we are afraid to make mistakes. I think most of us are scared of the judgment we get for the mistakes we make. learning to not care about what others will think then we will be more open to learn from those mistakes and move on to a better place.

Well, it's a really sad thing that a lot of people are scared to make mistakes. I know myself I'm really scared to screw up because I know in my past and now, people would get mad at me or make fun of me, it's a horrible feeling. I think that's the part the we want to avoid, the tension that follows making a mistake.
Not sure if it answers your question, but yeah, that's what I expereince quite often.

We control how our mistakes make us feel, no one else but ourselves. So, with that being said. For the NEW YEAR, let's stay in control of our emotions and keep a positive internal dialogue when we make mistakes. (HAPPY 2011).

well it's probably because one doesn't want to be a failure and commit mistakes over and over until people might know you for it. we do learn from it, yet ofcourse as much as possible we strive hard for perfection, and do mistakes as little as possible so as to earn respect from others and to remain dignified. it's quite stupid to commit mistakes that you never wanted, so one works hard to avoid it and do things rightly instead. achievement and respect is very essential for us humans, and that's natural. see you around my friend!

It's human nature to want approval from others, that is SO the reason for us being hard on ourselves when we fall short of expectations. (Happy New Year)

Failure does not always have to be accompanied by pain my friend. It's our choice the majority of the time.

If you learn from your mistakes why would you be scared? Wouldn't that mean you did not learn at all if you did it again?
If I learn from my mistakes I am not scared, I'm confident.

I agree there is nothing to fear but fear it's self! ...... Confidence comes with learning from past experiences.

The word "Learn from mistakes" have been an excuse by many when they make mistakes.
For me personnaly, it is better to learn from other people mistake rather than ours. We as a human is not perfect but frequent mistake making is not acceptable.\
Why? Some mistakes make us regret the whole life and some mistake wouldn't have us live to regret it.

Mistakes can be very useful. We need to build off them, and keep moving. Big or Small... Ty:-)
