I was reading a news report where according to recent findings using computer or the internet for more than 4 hours each day causes stress to the arteries and can directly effect one's heart.I am sure most of the online earners use the computer and the net for 4 hours or more each day.I wonder if this can be overcome in any way ? Probably, taking a break in between and indulging in some physical activity would help. What are your views friends regarding this issue..

Hello, Sadly knowadays if we were to believe every single report about what is bad for our health we would be better off not living anyway. Dont do this, dont do that, it never ends, lol. We only get one chance of life so just make the most of it. I wonder how long these so-called researchers sit at there computers typing up all these healthy reports

LOL, there is some wisdom in what you say I would also like to add that many a times the same theories get completely topsy turvy, what is considered bad today becomes good tomorrow, so one never knows ! As you say it is best to be balanced and make the most of our life ...

Hi MsTickle, We realise something only after it happens, so , even if there is no need to panic, we can at least try and see whether there is any validity in what is being presented after a lot of research and scientific studies. One can continue with the same life style but make some positive changes like taking a break and eating healthy diet, also being physically more active - no harm in that..

I think 'physical activity' is the key phrase here. Using a computer for 4+ hours means sitting on your butt and getting no exercise, no activity to get your blood pumping and your heart rate up, no movement to get oxygen to the blood, etc. (Sorry, but typing fingers just don't generate enough caloric burn.) Oh jeez...I feel my own arteries hardening as I type this and fat settling into the nether regions of my gluteus maximus. Time to get up and jog around the block.

Hi LaDe, Thats right! I too would go with that. Physical activity and taking breaks in between instead of continuously being on the net is definitely a better option.LOL... I guess it is time for me to do some jogging as well - all the best and have a great weekend

Hi. kiran8. I think that a person should become more physically active everyday. I move around for about two to three hours in a day in the mornings. I am always doing something that allows me to get some blood pumping to my heart. So, I think that this is helping me out some. I would like to walk more. I am a fast walker, and I feel that this will definitely do me some good. Thanks for this information!

Hi cream, Yes I agree that the only way one can be healthy and overcome the negative effects of the net is to be physically active and also take short breaks without sitting glued to the TV or the computer - I am sure that with all that exercise you are bound to be fit and healthy - all the best and enjoy your evening

While I can certainly understand why there could be such a correlation, I don't believe that internet/computers actually causes "stress to the arteries". I am more than willing to wager that there is some other factor at play here. I am guessing that the stress may be due to the person getting worked up over the various things they may read, see, or hear on the internet. I am intrigued by this and would like to read more about it. Do you have a link or know where you found this information?

Hi kiran, Though there are so many 'no's are being brought to the light people do not seem to bothered least. Some two months back I read in a quarterly English magazine that cell phone have more advantage than advantage. But this has no impact on us. It was written there better, you text more and talk less, if you are at home use the landmine phones, should be kept at a distance when you are sleeping and so many other demerits. Now using computer more than four hours is not to be ignored sort of things. Taking regular break between your sessions is good for us. And where would you go for walking fast? People are everywhere and we are becoming less flexible only because of too much of sitting.

Hi kraj, Thanks a lot for sharing all that information here. In fact, I have also read that even watching TV for more than 4 hours is very bad for your health. I am sure that there is a lot of validity in that, because it encourages a sedentary life style which does more harm....One needs to be cautious about health - all the best and enjoy your weekend

you are correct and i agree with you,now a days 98% of the software professionals are in the influence of the heart problems, every one rushing to the doctor or cardiologist in between 25-30 years old.it is growing every year, according to the survey of UHM growth rate of men facing heart problem every year is 10%.in this 6% are of computer professionals. the main reason for this was the lack of exercise to the body and unhealthy diet, other thing was continuously sitting in one place for longer time.

Hi bikerider, That's true, the statistics are truly alarming as regards the health of software professionals who spend most of their time in front of the computer. But I see a lot of software companies making an effort in balancing out things by having a gym, swimming pool and other out door games within their premises, so that their employees make use of them. ..So hopefully things would change in the future - thanks a lot for your response and all the best

hi kiran8,i agree but,in the software profession the companies are trying a lot to balance risk by work of their employs, even though health of employs is spoiling day by day. it is the mistake of employs, not utilizing the companies balancing program.

I think that sitting anywhere for a long period of time and getting no exercise cannot be too healthy for you. It could be watching tv for extended periods of time, or even working, We need to get the blood flowing, at times. I no longer have the ability to be on the computer for even an hour at a time without interuption.

Hi kiran, I think the report is right. From my personal experience I can say that if I use computer after diner I feel disturbance in sleeping. I have to wake up several times in the night. My head burns.Excessive use of computer or internet is also bad for our brain.

Hi sajeev,Thanks a lot for sharing your views I really feel bad for bank employees and other office goers who are in front of the computer all through their working days. But, in their own interest, they should take a break in between. I see in my bank they are in front of the computer for about 3 hours at a stretch after which they go elsewhere and someone else takes over ...

So for those who are sitting in front of the computer in an office with the internet running the whole time are most likely to get a heart attack. Yea, I do take breaks in between to do other stuff, cause sitting too long on a chair is also not good.

Hi Jlyn, i too am of the same opinion, that when we sit either in front of the TV or the computer for hours together with no activity, it is bound to have adverse affect on our health, so better to take preventions before it is too late - thanks a lot for the response, enjoy your sunday

This is most likely comming from people that are not involved in activity as in physical activity like walking or running. That are on the computer for 4 hours or more. Also as computer users that are online for that long they are more likely to drink things like Soda and junk food and not get up and make something that is good for them. Junk food being chips which are bad when mixed with Soda due to high sodium content. I bike at least 12 miles a day and also work in a physical job. So I spend time on the computer during the weekend I am generally offline for most of the day. As for this report I would have to see where it is from. As their are factors to any study that could make it less than true. Just look at some of the research coming from Christan affiliated research groups on topics like violence in video games and music making your kids gay. So would depend on where this research is coming from.

Hi dark_joev, This is the link for one of the articles I found on the net, http://www.nzherald.co.nz/health/news/article.cfm?c_id=204&objectid=10699223 and this one , a discussion that is taking place on facebook... http://www.facebook.com/abcnews/posts/132665463463541 However I happened to read a more detailed report in our local newspaper.Unfortunately the section of the newspaper has been missing, so I cannot give all the details... But there is some concern which we have to take seriously since it does effect our health in the long run. I too agree that physical activity would definitely help...All the best and thanks a lot for your response

maybe it means that you can not stay too long by the computer, you should have a rest when you stay about 1 or 2 hours, and let your eyes have a rest per 30 minutes

It's a miracle I'm alive then :). I'm quite healthy too. I don't actually know anyone who uses a computer for less than 4 hours each day, except maybe for some elderly relatives. I'm not saying that a sedentary lifestyle isn't bad for your health, because we all know it is, but spending 4 hours in front of a computer doesn't seem such a health risk to me. Or maybe I don't want to face the truth because it would mean I had to change my lifestyle :).
