Removing virus without using any antivirus?

i had once heard about removing viruses from our computer without using any anti-virus applications. is there any way to do it?if anyone knows about it then tell me through commenting in this discussion.

r4v3n_ I think its possible for simple viruses. But for those virus that restricts the user to anything I think you will need an antivirus for that one. Or if its worse you may need to reformat your computer so be sure to use an antivirus for overall protection :).
