Completely reformatting the hard disk and reinstalling the operating system and other software will remove all viruses and other malware but there still remains the danger that data files (especially Microsoft Office documents) may be infected and opening any that are will simply reactivate the virus. If you know exactly what the virus is and how it has installed itself, it is possible to manually remove most viruses without reformatting and reinstalling everything. Good anti-virus software is such a useful and time-saving tool which quickly and automatically detects and repairs most viruses that such software is virtually indispensable. My question to you would immediately be "Why do you want to do without an anti-virus application?"

Hi owl, Maybe he's just curious about the whole thing, or maybe just to avoid the extra cost of paying for an antivirus subscription. I use beta versions on my system, manual deletion of infected files takes time and lots of risks.

this not a solution it remove only those viruses those are only in C drive but if virus in other drive formatting not removed it. only you can try to restore but it is also not sure to remove your virus it's only change current setting to previous setting.

that is possible to remove the virus without any anti-virus but you need to be familiar with the virus' name then you should got to safe mode after that you need to check the task manager if it is still running if it's not then good go to regedit32 find the virus name and then delete it after that remove it from the msconfig if you saw the virus' name in there (check the location of the virus or the directory) afterwards go to command prompt then search the internet on how to delete files using it then your done :) however I would not recommend someone who doesn't really know that much about the registry you need to be familiar because if you deleted something that is important for a certain program like yahoo messenger then your yahoo messenger would not work properly :) and you can only delete viruses that is in your computer already, I would recommend using Nod32 because it doesn't it to much ram on your computer P.S. your can't protect your safe from incoming viruses using the one manual mode so it's better to have an anti-virus which has a internet security protection :D

yes it is possible. Work on the registry. It depends on a virus. Different kind of virus has a different way to remove it.

Yes, it is possible to remove viruses from the computer even without using an antivirus program; however, you have to be knowledgeable enough and must be an advanced user in this regard. If the virus is very severe, then reformatting the computer is the best option. I would suggest malwarebytes as an anti-malware, powerful enough to remove viruses, adwares, malwares, etc. If you want to know more about removing virus manually, just visit www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ Hope the above link helps you in any way. Happy mylotting!

I don't think it's possible to do that. Yes, you could reformat and lose all your data along with the virus. But other than that, you do need anti-virus. Just deleting a supposedly infected file does not guarantee at all that you'll be safe. Don't trust websites that claim they will scan and remove your computer. That's impossible to do. If you want, try Sandboxie. It's an application that lets you download and browse with a security net on your computer. If you do catch a virus, you can clear anything you downloaded and voila, safe and sound. It is NOT and anti-virus program though. It's actually best if you combo the program with a real anti-virus.

It's possible, but not for all viruses. Previously we had a "Rahul's Virus Protection" virus on our system and we removed it without antivirus. Since it was an executable file added to the registry, first we removed it from the Registry and then deleted all the executable files that's related to that virus. Sometimes, if you have dual OS installed in your system you can delete the virus files of one OS from the other OS. It will be just like deleting few files.

I think its possible for simple viruses. But for those virus that restricts the user to anything I think you will need an antivirus for that one. Or if its worse you may need to reformat your computer so be sure to use an antivirus for overall protection :).

Dear friend, until now I never heard such a claim. I try to prevent infection by viruses using Avast. But if there was a system to remove viruses without the use of any software, and you come it knows,, please inform me, even as a private message. Thank you in advance

Well, if you want it that way, then format your computer. However, all your files and programs will also be washed away with the virus too! But it is a very effective way to remove viruses and infection in your computer. I suggest that you backup the files that you needed the most. Try to transfer them into your back up drive and then reformat your main drive. However, be careful not to infect your back up drive there after. You might be transferring the virus too together with the files that you are trying to back up.

Hi Kundan, If your system is affected by virus say today, then by using restore option you can easily remove virus your system it. The only disadvantage is that you will loss all your data that you had created during that restore time. This restore option is better than formatting option. It is available in the following path for windowsXP C:- windows - system32 - Restore -rsturi.exe After executing "rsturi.exe" it will ask time from where to restore, you have to give the time and date where your system works normally. Hope you understood. Please free to ask any doubt on this. I had used this method for removing certain critical viruses.
