Computers are making the human race lazy

People today are able to do things with computers that take them a second to complete, while the people of a century ago had to think things through with their brains. I personally think that computers are making our race extremely lazy. Students have no need to handwrite anymore because of computers, and books/libraries are also quickly being replaced. What do you think? Are computers really making us lazy? Or are they just useful "calculators"?

I don't think computers are making us lazy but they are making us more efficient. We are able to do the same things so much faster than we were many years ago but this doesnt mean we are becoming lazy. They are are helping us be more productive with less effort

Ain't that the truth! Kids are having to learn how to log onto a computer and the internet by the time they are in kindergarten (that was a pre requisite when My GD started!) They have to know some about the keyboard even!
Handwritting is becoming a thing of the past. Wonder how long it will be before the schools stop teaching it!
I called my doctor the other day to get some paper work...and they told me to call back...computers were shut off due to some problem and they couldn't pull a file. Everything is on computer...they have no "paperwork" anymore.

i agree with you in some sense but not all... computers in a sense are making humans to become lazy but at the same time also make humans to be able to do their works more effectively and efficiently... in this way, we can be more productive because we can allocate the time that we save by using the computer to do other more beneficial and useful things... take care and have a nice day...

Nothing can make us be anything we don't choose to be. Its not the fault of the computer that so many folks depend upon it so, in that light, no to your question.
The ease of use appeals to our addictive natures, but it doesn't actively induce us and can't be placed wit the blame.

I think the computer is a very useful tool;not only that it doesn't make us lazy, but it stimulates our thinking;for example, right now I'm using my brain to post on mylot, the computer is only the machine which makes my way of thinking and prsonality available to others;if computers and especially the Internet didn't exist, how could we communicate and make friends from all over the world? However,I tend to agree that the computer makes us 'lazy',but only from a physical point of view, not mental because sometimes we prefer to spend too much time in front of it instead of doing movement or physical activities.

Maybe your right, it's because that many people right now only use computer to work at home. Just like this one.

Greetings.
Yes its true but it has a lot of advantages than disadvantages. we always do our best to make our life easy because life is too short. Without computers, there would be no progress. We'll have a hard time in doing things which means it takes too long to complete a certain tasks and because of that, we don't have enough time to enjoy life. It doesn't make us lazy, it makes life easy. :)

In a way I do see where you are coming from. However in another way, I think that computers are making us more efficient. Trust me, I think that its a good thing that some students are no longer handwriting anything. Handwriting can be an adventure to read and I think that teachers are much happy that it is hand written and easy. It is a shame that books are being replaced however. I enjoy reading a good book, in my hands for leisure. Although I do prefer e books for my schooling, because it is a lot easier to look things up. I'm all about saving time. Perhaps that could be considered lazy. I consider it efficient, but whatever. Still I can see where you are coming from.

Why would computers make a person lazy? A person is lazy because he is lazy and he chose to be lazy, a person is hard working because he is hard working and he chose to work hard Computers only make work easier but it can never change people's natural behavior, give a lazy person a computer and give an industrious person the same computer, guess who will give more productive output? We all know the answer don't we?

My answer would be definitely No. That's because computers even make us make our job more easier and faster. We can't say that we are getting lazy because of this because after all, we are still the one controlling the computer thus we are still working and hard working will never be a synonym for being lazy. That's what I believe.

A lot of things modernization had brought upon mankind for our convenience define our collective indolence. Cars spare us the rigours of traversing daunting distances that our primitive ancestors had to endure. So do escalators. Ships too. So in a way, a computer would only be one of many things to throw our innate laziness into sharp relief. :)
