I love foreign language movies. They are often so much more original & thought provoking than the standard English movies we get dished up. I use the sub titles and find them easy to follow. Its strange cause at the end of the movie or if someone asks me I often can't remember if it was subtitled or in English! Try watching a full movie - maybe an easy one (run Lola run or maybe no-mans land)) with less subtitles - all the way through. It will seem hard at first then you will quickly forget you are reading them. If you can get over the sub-titles a whole new world of movies will open up to you. Have Fun

Hello,
I have never heard of the two films that you suggested watching, but if I can get hold of them I will give them a viewing.
The only problem I have with watching subtitled films is that my eyes get very tired quickly reading the subtitles, maybe it's an age thing (lol).

Try one foreign movie Harry - try something that got awards or is highly rated by reviews. Movies even in a foreign language are often universal. Using subtitles will give you most of what you need to enjoy the movie - and learn something of a new culture of different slant on a subject. Please Please try one movie - watch it with an open mind - I'm sure you will enjoy the expereince and open up a whole new range of movies for you. Let me know how you go - cheers

I used to be a movie addict, going to the theatres atleast 3 times a week, and I watched all kinds of movies including foreign language movies. These days, I don't get the time to go to the theatres. I just sit down infront of the TV and watch on the movie channels. Some times, I get to watch foreign movies too, Korean for example.

I have. And I have to say I don't like it. I've watched a couple of Swedish flicks, and I don't know the language very well at all. I really couldn't get into the plot as much because I had to sit there and read subtitles. LOL. I guess it's not for everyone...

I have watched couple of foreign language movies. I really enjoyed the movie and it has got a unique experience when you don't watch a dubbed movie. When we watch a foreign language movie in our own dubbed language it turns the expressions bad.

I have watched some foreign language movies. Yes, it is different to follow the characters because I don't know what they are saying. Fortunately, almost the time, there are subtitles at the bottom! But my eyes will feel uncomfortable if I stare at the sentences for a long time.

I have never watched a full foreign language movie, I have tried but I get about 10 minutes into it and get annoyed at myself for not understanding whats going on. I am trying to learn Portuguese at the moment, like I can hold a conversation but cant speak the whole language, I thought the movie would help but it didnt

I am an Indian, so English is a foreign language to me. But I have seen several English movies so far. Being a member of the local film society, I have also seen several non-English foreign movies with sub-titles and found no difficulty in understanding the movies.
