I feel like I'm unemployed...

I haven't worked since Wednesday. This is the sucky part about having an on-call job. Anyway, so today is Friday, and I'm going on my 2nd day of being "off". Yesterday I worked out, went tanning, did a little shopping, went out to eat with my sister and her boyfriend..And today, well, I practically don't have anything to do. I've just been sitting around the house and it's driving me crazy. I feel like I'm actually unemployed, much like many of the people around me. And it's only been 2 days if I haven't mentioned that already. I might go shopping again... (But I'm not making money, so I probably shouldn't be spending it..LOL) and work out again and after that I don't know. Luckily I work at least Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of next week. It's not enough though. Why can't I get called in? I'm going crazy here!
Have you ever been in the same situation?
How do you find stuff to do?

During my working life, I worked several times like this and hated it. I could never get anything else done during the day, because I had to be dressed and ready to go when ever I got a call. But worse than that pretty soon my employeer would find that I was a good employee and work me more and more hours, before long I had 40 hour weeks with no benefits. It just didn't work well for me.

hi savypat but it they worked you forty hours a week did they not
have to give you benefits, that seems so unfair. I worked part time sol I also got no benefits either even tho several times I racked up 39
hours in one week. some employers like the county library system are
so penny pinching. and the public all think oh all county employees'get
huge pay checks no so at all.

oh, I had an on-call job once. Sometimes there would be no work and at other times they'd want me in every day. It's so hard to make plans or to make a budget.
I did things with my friends and I started a few hobbies.

hoi maezee havent seen you in awhile My son had a parttime job and then his employer cut him down to one day a week but now he put him on two days and by golly he has another part time jof the rest of the week so he is working five days a week again after being off for many many months. Can you take another part time to fillin or have you got to be obn call all week? like one tuesday a week as I do not know what sort of work you do I am not sure of how to respond,. I worked part time at the libreary and guess what I mylotted on the rest of the time so I had mylot earnings and work paychecks plus my social security and since I was past seventy the social security people could no longer cut money out of my social security check.now I am retired. I also worked extra hours if someone called in ill so was sort of on call too.

So, is it your job more like temporary job or something like that? When they have work, they will call you when they need you right? It is sucks, but you have to make some money though, understood. Anyway, keep on working on mylot, and it doesn't earn you much money, at least you can earn a little. Why not try to search those job searching websites or through newspaper, you might want something, or you can change your job.

i have recently lost my job. i had no idea that such a thing will happen with me. though the terrible project manager was driving everybody crazy on the floor, yet such a sudden hauling up was totally unexpected. now, at home i don't have much to do than sit and write to earn some money for myself. i am having real tough time right now as i am fending for myself staying in an accommodation far from my home and family, hope situations will improve and this new year will bring me lots of good luck, good job and yes, a good boss.

Hello. Yup, I understand you. On-call jobs can be frustrating. One way to stay occupied when the on-call didn't call for the day would be to do some online work that gives some earning. Are you interested in online writing , writing articles, short stories, reviews, commentaries, and so on ? There are a number of programs you can join. Here is one. It is "Review Stream". You can write brief reviews on a variety of topics, and get paid. Take a look at it.
Have a nice day !

I get every other Friday off, and like you, I also go crazy when I'm not working. It's like I wake up early, do a couple of errands, and then I'm just sitting around waiting for something productive($$$) to do. I guess it's just part of being a workaholic that we always equate our time with money. And if we're not doing anything, we feel useless, unemployed.
How about you use your free time to look for another, more permanent job?

Yes I found myself on the same situation as you are. Last year in the month of December I took leave for some days as I had some personal things to do. But after three days I became feeling bad and used to call my friends on their mobiles to ask what was happening in the office. I don't know why but I was feeling like I am an unemployed guy and the company has sacked me out of the company.
