Do you put clothing on your dog?

Dog bear - A picture of a dog wearing a bear costume. I did not create the coat, and I do not own or even know the dog. I just thought it was a very funny photo

Now, I've seen quite a few silly, yet kind of amusing attire that people seem to dress their dogs in. Little 'coats' in the winter, which I suppose is fair enough to keep little doggies warm. I felt a little sorry recently for one dog that I saw was being taken for a walk in the icy snow a couple of weeks back. This just made me chuckle so much though. I've been getting into knitting and crocheting and so I was looking for patterns to make. This one pattern said 'Bear/dog coat'. So I clicked through thinking it may be one of those little hooded jackets for babies. It turns out that someone had created a hooded coat for their little terrier that is brown in color and has bear ears! Take a look if I can get any of the links or pictures to work, but I thought it was hilarious. Especially the dog's expression! Have you ever dressed your pet up? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3121/2809720124_c2323f18de_z.jpg

Oh, the poor dog, he has such a sad look! Like he's saying: "what did I do wrong to wear this stupid costume? My pals are going to laugh at me. Mom, please, take it off!" This is the look my first dog, Nera, had when I dressed her for the first time. She was young and healthy back then , and she didn't need a coat. In her last year she weared a winter coat every time we went outside in cold weather, as she was old and ill and she started to shiver as soon as she was outside. Binne doesn't seem to mind she's dressed. She is a little curious about the "thing" I put on her, but then she is more bussy with what happens outside, so she forgets about the coat. I dressed her only once, she had had a bath and I didn't want to take her outside in the cold with her wet coat.

I have two dogs and a cat. My male dog doesn't care for clothing... he always gets off a swaeter when I put it on him. He rolls on his back forever until he somehow get out of it lol. My female dachshund loves to dress up!! If you take her coat out she will actually jump into it haha. She knows its a special treatments and because we all think she is sooo adorable in her clothes she acts super cute! I guess we encourage her :) Check this out... we bought her the brown one for xmas. These are just like the one you are showing us but even cuter! :) http://www.funnyfur.com/teddy-bear-down-vest.aspx

@ skinpro I have to say those are really cute with the little chihuahua and the the other really small dogs. Now, mind you, I mean they are cute on someone elses dog.

my cats would KILL me in my sleep, if they didn't take me out while I was still awake!

I've put a sweater on my dog before because it was close to zero degrees outside and it was freezing cold. And I don't want him to get sick when he goes outside to do his "business". He doesn't like it, so I try to just get him outside and get him back in to avoid both the sweather AND him getting sick.

I did used to with my cavalier king charles in the winter as he used to get really cold and shiver within minutes of being outside otherwise.

My dog has clothes of course. Hes very little and only weighing 12 pounds so i have some shirts i put on him during the cold nights and when he goes outside he does have a sweater to put on so he doesnt get to cold out and i dont need him sick or anything like that since he already has a skin iritation problem. During halloween he was a banana and it was the cutest thing ever and im not sure he liked it or not but it was just to funny and then the year before he was a hotdog that was also to funny and actually to big for him but oh well i have the pictures that are there to show me how cute he looked.

I am not buying my dogs some clothing. When I tried it the first time, they got irritated. They bite and roll all the time trying to remove the dress. I don't want to see my pets being bothered. I would like them to stay naked since, they already have their true clothing--their fur.

i don't own a dog and when i did in the past, i never put on any clothing on it... it is not a custom in my home country to put on clothes for the dogs so we can hardly find any pet store that sells the dog's clothes anyway... take care and have a nice day...

My daughter has a mini dauschaund and she does have clothes for it such as hoodies and a sweater. He gets really cold if he has to go out for a walk or if we take him somewhere with us so she dresses him. I would bet that those bear coats would sell online if you could make them and promote them. People treasure their pets and it would be nice to have something like that.

I certainly don't dress my pets up. I hate to see poor dogs looking idiotic in 'human' style clothes. I have no objection to a proper dog coat for cold weather, indeed this is essential for some breeds such as greyhounds that have very thin fur, or a blanket on a field kept horse, but apart from these examples, my answer is a resounding 'NO'to dressing animals in clothes.

Sadie hound does not wear people cloths. But she has a rain coat that is lined so that she can do ranch chores when it's below freezing outside. This was made just for her and it can take the rough life of the ranch. This is a dog only coat and of course we don't tell here that it will also fit a baby Llama or a goat.

I have never dressed any dog i have owned in any kind of clothing. i do know people who do like to dress up their dogs like little children. It's a way of bonding with your favorite pet.

I have one dog hoodie that was given to me as a present, but I just put it on my dog once or twice. He does not mind wearing it, but it just seems kind of pointless to me. I would never spend money on such things myself, because it just seems like a waste of money to me, but I don't have a problem with people who do.

I do know a few people that have small dogs that they tend to put coats on them that they have knitted for them, as well as bought.I know a woman that buys her dog football dog jackets and gets it wearing them, also she wears the same colour coat as the dog do.There are some great coats that you see dogs dressed up in.

My dogs would not go for this, not for a minute. And I have a couple of small dogs and one medium size. The two little ones are a male and a female. The male is a jack russell mix. Very hyper and never sits still. He won't even take a collar, he thinks he's being punished. He will crouch low against the floor and just kind of slither into a corner some where and not move. I can't imagine what he would do if I tried to put clothes on him! The female is a pom and chi mix. She's very mature, being all of 3 years old now and would not allow herself to be dressed. I actually think it's kind of cute on some little ones, especially if they are so tiny and need to go out in the cold. Some of them really do like it, makes them feel special.
