So at work we just found out that our company "might" be bought out by another company but don't know for sure. So my question to you is should I just wait and see what happens in a couple of months or should I just go ahead and start looking else where. Just the thought of having to start over somewhere else just gives me a headache...grrr. So please give me your input and tell me what you think. Thank you :)

Hi Nieto,
I know it must seem unsettling to you not knowing what is going on with your work place. Jobs are so hard to come by and I know just what you mean about dreading the thought of starting over. I would first talk it over with my boss and ask his thoughts. I have to tell you also that I've been in this spot a couple of times and both times the new owner kept all the workers on and not much changed except for having new owners...new name to the company.

Thanks sid556...i would be really happy if that would happen in my case. i really like my job and i enjoy what i do so if my company just gets a new name and decides to keep all of us that would be great :)

hi nieto while you work start looking for another job but do not giveup; the old one then if you have an new job om the background and your comp;any makes it evident jobs are going to be lost handed in your resignation and work for two weeks and go to the new job.if it appears you will all keep your jobs no matter what ,you can tell the new job
place that you are not being let go. lol a safety net so to speak.

Thanks hatley...sounds like a good plan and I think I'll go ahead and follow it. It is better to be safe than sorry. Who knows maybe something better might come along :)

well i suggest you stay and we'll never know, the merging will give more opportunities to grab. our company merged with an international company as well last year and unfortunately, in my opinion, it didn't get much positive feedback from the employees. some good policies were removed and some are being added to our dismay..
well, as long as they're still paying us right. am good..

Well, you have the heads up, so I would start looking. There is always the possibility you could find something better, and then you have something if the need be.

It might be wise to wait and see what really happens. when we trust a rumor we can be fooled by it sometimes. We shouldn't borrow trouble until it is absolutely necessary.

Thank you sender621 for your response. I think I'll just go to work and do my job like usual and just go from there. I guess it wont hurt to look around just to be on the safe side as well.

There's the old adage that it's easier to find a job if you have a job - I've been in the position where there's a possible buyout or section closure twice in my working life, and it's unsettling. I don't think there's any harm in just having a look around to see what else is out there at the same time as sitting tight and waiting to see what happens. You'll be in a much stronger position if your job disappears, as you'll have an idea of who else is hiring and what's available.

I think it's better for you to look for another job. You need to know that there is no guarantee that this another company would keep you after takes over your company. Well this is safety net for you because you cannot just ignore it because your job may be at risk when the company acquisition occurs. When my company got acquitted about two years ago I was thinking that there may staff cuts and I look for other jobs. Soon after it was acquitted the new company announced that they will keep staff the same as before, there will be no changes. So I was relieved that I can still keep my job.

hello nieto!
i can understand your dilemma but it would be wise of you to still go on with your usual work while looking for other alternatives, if you have time, in case the rumor proves to be true. It is truly hard for someone who has work for a company for quite some time and then finds work again for some reasons beyond one's power and control.
However, it would benefit you if you will look for alternative ways now should the sale would push through. It would be much more burdensome if it will caught you unaware and not ready for it. So better be ready whilst you still have time, in case you have to opt out.

hello,
Is it really matter to you if someone bought your company?. Hmmm if yes maybe you should look for another. but I think you should wait first what will happen to your company of course you should be aware of few changes that will happen because it will not be the same as what you had in your company.right? , and in the other hand if you change your company you will have new co- workers that need to know each other.
