The end of Facebook?

India
January 16, 2011 1:15am CST
We have all heard the stories from a number of sites that facebook is shutting down completely because Mark Zuckerberg is apparently tired of the addiction and social chaos it has got upon the people. We all know by now that this myth has been debunked repeatedly by various credible sources and even the management of facebook themselves! But still there are the paranoid ones that feel otherwise. Now imagine that for a moment the paranoid are rite and they are indeed shutting down. What would u do in this hypothetical situation?

As I read this discussion, I am watching Saturday Night Live, and the Weekend Update has just made a diss about Facebook shutting down this march. Apparently, Mark Zuckerberg wants his old life back! The lonely, poor, nerd life! What would we all do if FB shut down? I guess we'll all go back outside and do something active instead of just sitting in front of the computer. And what's terrible is that we might all have a healthier, normal lives. What a horror!

actually that is not that simple. Facebook is currently valued at $50 billion after the goldman sachs investment but it has a gross annual income of around $900m which means it is trading more than 50 times its earning which shows it is overpriced. So if Zuckerberg wants to really shutdown facebook, he will have to return the money back to his investors which at the current cash flow seems impossible. That is why the stories are just rumors.

Your difinitely correct, last month I think Mark was cover of Time magazine being one of the famous and younger founder of Facebook, so money for him are not huge only but un-imagineable. He is smart and for sure it is not happened... see you around

I would be bummed! I have so many pictures on there and have made some friends. Even found afew old acquaintances. I also take my breaks from writing and research on Facebook. Pogo is about the only place that has as fun and interesting games as Facebook does. It has a lot of things that other sites don't have. I hope it is all just a hoax.

hello boxxerdude! I also have heard of that news that facebook will be shutting down. I think that's not true and people will really be sad if facebook will be gone cause most people reunite in facebook. Well, there can be other social networking sites but friends you have reunited with that site is different from other sites as well. Most people depend on facebook nowadays. It's their way to communicate to their long lost friends and relatives. Plus it gives us time to earn also while having fun with interaction with others. It's a way to get us all together.

I don't think it's true. If Mark Zuckerberg wants to retire from Facebook, he can always sell it to another management. I'm sure there are many people waiting to take over Facebook. Why want to shut it down when he could make millions by selling it?

i'm not really addicted to facebook... in fact, i'm not even using it everyday... so if it does really shut down, it doesn't affect me very much... but i won't hope it will be closed because it will affect so many people who use it... take care and have a nice day...

Do you know who started this story in the first place? It was a well-known publication called, "Weekly World News", who call themselves, "The Worlds ONLY reliable newspaper." They're famous for pieces like Bat Boy coming to life, Saddam and Osmama having a homosexual relationship with eachother, aliens controling our governments, including photos of aliens talking to top politicians, and all sorts of pieces like that... one of my favorites was, "Computer Virus Spreads to Humans!" from back in the late 90s... My point is, that newspaper is BS! Facebook is not going to shut down... EVER!

Facebook management cleared about the issue and they are not shutting down. There are cases faces of the CEO of facebook but it doesn't mean they shutdown the site. Well, if they shutdown facebook. I can't do nothing because it's their prerogative to stop that site. But I do believe that they are not shutting down that site. Those news is a false alarm because there are people that envious due to the success of the site...

I don't know, but i believe it is going to take a lot for facebook to shut down. For it's one of the top social networking sites. I don't really care if it does shut down, i am an active member but i am not like i need it types. I would give my email id to all my friends to keep in touch before they shut down. In fact, i would be happy if they shut down because they really cause a lot of trouble at times. It would be interesting if the facebook guys read this post. I don't care for facebook, i was once addicted to it, but i want it to shut down.

Hi dear, It won’ make much difference to me. I am not so mad with facebook also. Also, if the management is planning to shut down the site, they will come up with something else still a better one, no doubt. Also, nothing to worry, there are other similar site which provides the same utilities. Only the look and appearance are different. I think those who have an id on facebook are holding similar ids with other community sites also. They will simply transfer to the other one, which they will feel the most appropriate. Regards, Thank-s

I'm not sure what I would do. Maybe I would start using my Myspace account, but I don't have many friends there and I like facebook so much better. I would probably just not do anything and interact with my friends on a face to face or phone basis rather than internet. I do use IM occasionally, but again not many friends on there either.

If facebook will be shutted down. My life will be over. No joke. And I don't think that people would allow Mark Zuckerberg to shut down facebook..lol ;)

I have panicked when I've first heard of this myth. Me and my friends discussed about this immediately and all agreed that they wouldn't sell something that giving them so much money. Plus they can always hire people to administrate facebook. Anyway, I'm really glad when my husband told me that it was plain rumor since he have read the real deal in the news. I think people will go gaga and protest if they are really shutting down. As for me I will be sad since I visit facebook regularly to read the news feed from my friends and to play. I think I will try to find an alternative social networking site if ever that would happen.

Facebook is not going anywhere, and Mark Zuckerberg pretty much has other people deal with it now. Even if the people who are running Facebook now did not want to run it any longer they would end up selling it, they could get billions of dollars for it and someone else would surely take it over and run it. Facebook is not going anywhere although there are competitors who wish it would.

Hey, if Mark Zuckerberg tired of social networking, someone else still want to do it. He doesn't want to make money, someone else will. People aren't tired of social networking or contacting people, or leave comment on facebook or similar sites. We still interact with each other on the internet. If he doesn't want to do it, someone will. It won't be the end of the social network, as you will know it.

Hi, I personally do not see facebook shutting down any time soon. But if it were shut down, I would simply move on. No sense of crying over spilt milk. Someone will come up with another way to attract the internet masses.
