Hey, my lotters, I've bought this laptop about two years ago (Acer). It worked just fine until recently, the screen started to flickering, especially when I watch a video or play games, the color of the screen also becomes purple. Any ideas what the problem is? Thanks.

Most likely, the LCD screen is dying on you. It happens due to various reasons. But to rule out the Driver issues, make sure that you have the latest display drivers. If it continues even after driver update, it is highly likely that you'll need a replacement LCD screen for your laptop.

Thanks, I've got the latest driver. I'll have somebody check whether the LCD screen works fine.

have you tried to update the driver of the video card? If yes, then it is possible that the laptops video apparatus is stating to die down. On the other hand it just might be heating up more than it usually does to fix you can try to clean the vents of your laptop by blowing it some compressed air blower or open it up and brush away those dust build up with a non static brush.

Thanks for your response, I've updated the video card already, and I seriously doubt there is a loose connection somewhere.

This usually means that the screen or the video hardware is beginning to wear out. With a CRT monitor, it is generally one or more components in the high voltage circuitry which are failing and the only viable solution is to buy a new monitor. In the case of a TFT/laptop screen, it can often be due to a dry joint or a failing component in the video board, a worn or damaged cable (often at the point of the hinge) or a loose connection.
Since you say that it is 'especially when you watch a video or play games' (both of which make heavy use of the video graphics board) it, unfortunately, sounds as if you may need a new motherboard (in a laptop, everything is built on one board and if one circuit fails, you have to replace the whole board). Since the laptop is two years old (at least - you don't say whether you bought it new or second-hand), it may be difficult to find a replacement board and, considering the likely value of a machine of that age, it may actually be better to buy a new laptop.

Thanks for your help, I bought it new, and I believe there is something wrong with the cable or there maybe a loose connection somewhere, I'll have somebody check and see if it can be repaired.
