Cary has this rather annoying habit of not answering when I ask him a question. This morning the question was whether he had brushed his teeth. "Cary, did you brush your teeth?" No answer. No problem. "Cary, every time you don't answer me I get to tickle you." "Cary did you brush your teeth?" Tickle. Giggle giggle giggle. Protect his tummy. "Cary did you brush your teeth?" Tickle back of neck. Giggle giggle. "Cary did you brush your teeth?" Reach for the tummy. "OK OK I didn't." Bwa ha ha, mom knows how to make them confess....

Love it Dawn, you're a great mother to your kids. I would love to witness the tickling and it's great you got Cary to confess to NOT brushing his teeth lol.
Brilliant tactics my friend.

You're probably right. And hasn't quite figured out that I'm not going to let him get away with that... Maybe when he's 30.

I usually turn to 'monster mommy' to help me with such situations but yours sounds like a better idea. I better start doing it. Do you think it will work with a 10 year old? I'm sure my 4 year old will have fun with it but not too sure about the 10 year old...who is the one giving me a hard time nowadays.

Cary is 10, but he has autism, so he's a little "young" for his age. I wouldn't dream of tickling his twin sister (she might bite my arm off).

I'm not saying anything...
Can I get tickled too? ;)
Oh' this could set a dangerous precedent, if I want to have fun with mom, I know just what to do... Say nothing *Best Srgnt Schultz voice I can muster*
See those fingers coming?
Sure make a game of it... HEheheheeee
Honestly, I'm not talking, I'm going to resist...
You won't get me to respond...
Nope, no how, no way...
See how well it is working?
Tickle, tickle
Your turn... :)

This 'poor boy' has an excellent supportive Mom who knows her son and he is not crying out for attention.

Then I sincerely apologise. I always leap to the defense of my friends. Not an excuse though as I acted hastily and deserve to be punished

Hey dawny! Nice going Mom! You're my hero! My Mom was a "tickler"
too! And even more annoying she would "sing" (of key, of course)
some stupid made up song every morning to make me get out of bed
(wasn't a morning person way back them either)! I wanted to kill
her then.....

Um, what's wrong with singing a made up song off key?

I made up a song of a key, I sang it off key and it didn't open any doors, do you suppose that I was using the wrong key? Maybe I should keep tapping upon my keys?

Ah, good one! My daughter doesn't answer because she's not listening (she's too focused on something else - like whatever she's working on or on something she's watching on tv or the computer). Maybe a good tickle would work . . . then maybe she'll listen the first time!! Your kids are lucky to have you as a mom!

I think Cary's mind is either elsewhere or he just figures I won't like the answer...

That's a good trick!
I'll remember that when my kids don't want to talk.
My problem with them is the opposite. As soon as I ask them a question, they would respond quickly, 'I did!'. Even if they didn't. Just to get mo off their backs quickly too.
There should be a way I could get the tickling in these situation with them.

Cary used to do that, but then I'd go check his toothbrush to see if it was wet...

I have the same bad habit as Cary. People will ask me a question and I won't respond right away...I'm thinking of an answer...the best answer. It drives some of my friends crazy. I eventually answer and it could be minutes or even hours later. And if it's hours later, I don't always restate the question so they know what answer I'm giving. But they know me so well, when I give the answer, they know what I'm responding too. Now, if they tried to tickle me to get an answer, they'd probably get a knock on the head. Run, Cary, run...Mom's coming to tickle you.

That happens to me too, but then usually it's a complicated question preceded by a lot of information overload. IN this case, it was a yes/no question, and I think he just knew I wouldn't like the answer.

My son does that a lot too. He doesn't want to answer me sometimes when I ask him a question. Sometimes he gets annoyed when I do. He says I ask too much questions. When I don't ask him that much questions. I like to ask how was your day at school? Just so I know more about how my sons day was. He likes that question though he will let me know.I will ask him if anything new happened at school.
The questions he doesn't like are the ones like what you asked your son did you brush your teeth?

Maybe he doesn't like it for the same reason Cary doesn't, ie he didn't do it. :D

Yep, I think your right. He doesn't like to admit anything. LOL.He feels its better to not answer then to tell the truth or lie.

i sometimes do that to my son . the first time he doesn't answer a question or dilly-dallies with eating his meal, i tickle him behind the ear. after a little giggle but still no response, then it's behind his neck, then to his sides. it actually works .

I had my granddaughter overnight and I wish I knew how to get her to listen to me! This morning she was showing off and I told her to settle down...boom! Down she goes..knocks her cheek against the office chair and cuts her tongue!!!!! Even after that she was still racing around like a nut!

sorry to say, i just left it go. when my kids were growing up, i had 2 boys also, that did not talk or answer things. it'd drive my daughter nuts and she'd scream at them to answer. id ask her why bother and she'd say, you need to be answered i cant stand it when the boys ignore you. a person should always answer their mom. she got results because they couldnt stand her screaming at them. lol.

Such sweet and precious memories that we get to spend with our children while they are growing up.They grow up so fast , it is unbelievable.I hold on to many such memories of my children and we sit and talk about all their escapades and laugh...

My son, Michael has a bad habit of not answering when we ask him a question. Normally, it's when he has done something he knows he wasn't supposed to do, and I have to keep telling me that most times, if he tells us the truth, he won't get into nearly as much trouble as if he doesn't tell the truth.

Cary has autism. Not sure what the reason behind not answering is...
