He may be the talented, blue eyed or whatever . But has has not done justice to the faith shown in him.
I have such strong feelings for Raina based on these observations:
1. He keeps getting out to same shots every time.
2. Most of the time he gifts his wicket away.
3. Does not play according to situation.
4. Was found technically unfit on testing SA pitches.
He still has a healthy average. But averages could be misleading. Out of 111 matches, Raina has scored centuries only against Bangladesh, Sri-lanka & Hong-Kong !
What amazes me is that both Coach Gary & Dhoni talk so highly of him. Am i missing something here ???

I agree with you he lacks the requisite technique to play on fast pitches particularly to tackle fast rising deliveries. He has failed miserably on S.African pitches But he is talented and young we have to give him sufficient time to improve his technique. On slow Indian pitches he will be back to his normal. He will have to take the flaws in his batting technique seriously and try to improve them in the self interest. He may have to go for a season or two in English county. That will be good ground to improve his technique.

Dear msdivkar,
If it was only lack of technique, I would not have been so critical of him. It his lack of application that baffles me. Raina keeps gifting his wicket to non percentage shots.
I agree with you that he will find form back in India. As he has a unique gift of timing on slow pitches. But will he make this count when it really matters.

I really agree with you friend..
He is out of from for a quite long time..
I think management should give him some rest. so that he can prove himself again in domestic cricket and get his form back.
As we all know that the form is temporary but the class is permanent.
I think he is a good performer in T20 cricket but does not perform well in test matches and ODI's.
I hope to see him back in form in this world cup.

We have the largest cricket crazy people in our country. I don't think it will be difficult to have a chance in domestic cricket.
It was already happened with Sourav Ganguly and he proved himself in domestic cricket and get back his place in the international team.
I hope the same for Suresh Raina.
thanks for the topic dear friend..happy mylotting

Raina is a good sub continent batsman His records in sub continent is not too bad when compared to overseas. I really think having 2 left hand batsman Yuvraj and Raina who are both attacking isn't going to work. If 1 is playing, the other shouldn't. He has a VERY por technique against Shot ball and yes, you're right, he's getting out to the same kind of ball over and over again. But the wickets in sub continent isn't going to bounce much so, he should have a good time... As far as taking him to overseas, I think he should still be in the squad if not for the playing 11 as I have a strong feeling that eventually, by playing a lot of matches in the future, he will overcome his problems and become a complete batsman.

Dhoni has a though decision indeed. On one side is his CSK team mate Raina & on other hand he had his current favorite bowler 'YUVI' .
I feel that a batting order that has Yuvi will look more threatening to opposition. It may well come down to who is stroking the ball better in the nets that day !

Many times i notice he fail to play his super innings in foreign ground but talking about in indian ground he play good innings so i think he is deserving to be a part of indian squad if the match is held in india and in foreign nation he should be kick out..

Despite having numerous problems against Zaheer, Smith managed to stick around to score two useful knocks in the series. You do not have to look good to score runs.
Similarly, Raina could have easily played a supporting role to Yusuf or any other batsmen at the other end. Instead , he chose to be the hero every time & put his team in deep trouble.
whenever Raina was around, South africans knew that a wicket was just around the corner. This could not have been very comforting for dhoni !
It will be interesting to see, if raina will be picked up in the final 11 of World cup squad

Yes he deserve a place in Indian Team. He is very talented player. But yes some time he couldn't do well that's why he needs more practice and if he play for india team then one day he will become a good batsmen and bowler against any country.
Have a good day!

Raina is a talented player there is no doubt in this. But he is failed in facing the short and bouncy deliveries when team needs.
he had proved himself that he is valuable asset for the Indian team. But now he is little bit nervous in handling the bouncy deliveries in the pressure situation the teams needs him to play.
So he wants to prove himself once again otherwise he wants to leave way for some one who is performing well and ready to play for the nation.
