I start at Subway on Saturday! So it's not the most glamorous job on the planet, but a job is a job! Plus, the store I'm working at is practically right across the street from my house.. I could walk there if I needed to! Definitely great news! I am thrilled that I finally found a job!
I began job searching on the first of this month, so it has taken me 24 days to find a job. That is the longest I've ever actively looked for a job before landing one. In the past I'd either get hired quickly or I'd give up after a few days.
What is the longest amount of time you've spent actively job searching before finally being hired?

YEA!!!!! I'm so glad for u. U just show that there is still work to be found to some of these lazy ones that wants to draw all the frebies , one of my pet peeves by the way. I was fortunate to not have to go a long time looking for a job.

I was never on unemployment or anything like that. I was a stay at home mom, mainly by choice. But I'm tired of being broke, so working a part time job is mainly to help out financially.. but also to have a good reference on my resume when I do start looking for full time work.

I think I knew that.. and I understand your feelings.. I don't like those people who are sitting around, collecting unemployment, and not really bothering to look either. I was just stating I was not officially unemployed.. I was unemployed by choice.

hey, eating is a good thing which is why we work eh? comgrats on your job! i hope that you will enjoy it and the people you work with! my hubby was off work for 9 months last year which was the longest he was off work.
i generally pick up work where i can. i worked as a church secretary because i heard they needed one. now i work in an office because there was an opening. my dad volunteered there and told me about the opening. within a couple of weeks, i was hired, so i havent really had to job hunt much.

So you will be working at Subway and you're looking for another part time job in addition? People ought to hire you. Anyone who can manage a household with five kids (it's five, right) can certainly manage in an office envrionment.
I took a little break from mylot when I got 3 really hateful PMs following the discussion I had done prior to leaving. I didn't want to go down the road of drawing attention to their actions, or posting about them to get back at them. So I decided to take a break until I could think about mylot without getting a bad feeling.

Yes that's right, working at Subway and looking for a part-time day job for clerical experience. So far I've only had 1 interview for a part-time clerical job, and it didn't go well. I keep watching Craigslist everyday hoping for more opportunities.. seems most are either scams or want full time which I'm not ready for at the moment.
Sorry to hear about your issue. That has happened to me so many times. There's a lot of really rude, really hateful people on here. I've had to take a few steps back also from time to time. I've even thought about quitting completely as sometimes it is far too stressful and just doesn't seem worth it. I think taking a breather is always the best way to handle it!

Got the job at Subway.. not the clerical job. Still looking for part time clerical for the experience. Why were you gone?

First off, congratulations!
It's great that it's practically near where you live.
I used to work for a company which was literally a few blocks from where I lived. I loved it, as I don't have to spend for gas, and I had regular walking-exercise.
The 2nd day I came to work in my current job, I realized that I would hate it. I deciced that I would actively look for another job. Almost 5 years later, I am still here.

Aww, I'm sorry. Well, what's stopping you from being able to find another job? Is it the economy, or are your standards set high? My husband goes through phases where he hates his job, but he won't take another job unless he makes more than he's making right now with the same or less hours. I mean, I don't blame him, money and time are important to us. But I feel that if I hated a job THAT much, I'd take ANYTHING to get away from it! Of course, my hubby is our main supporter, so if he quit and earned less we'd be hurting even more than we already are.

Congrats yeah a jobs a job at the end of the day. That's good going I've never been hired by anyone. I always have problems with giving out a good first impression I think anyway I don't really demonstrate my confidence, least I recognise what I'm doing wrong or what I think I'm doing wrong so I should be able to improve on that aspect when it comes to interviews. In regards searching for jobs I've spent many months with no success although to be honest I've never really applied for many positions purely on the basis of being a student and being restricted a certain number of hours a week. Everything going round my way seem to want full time workers so that doesn't aid me either.

Many of the jobs I applied for said they were not hiring. Actually, one store I walked into and asked for an application, the hiring manager looked me straight in the eye and said "We're not hiring." I asked for the application anyways, filled it out right there and handed it back. 3 days later she called me for an interview.. apparently she decided to start hiring! I interviewed but did not get that job.
If I were you I'd still put in applications, let the hiring manager know that you are in school and have limited availablity, but would still like to work for them.

Well Congratulations on getting the job at Subway. Even if it is not the Best of jobs or the ideal job you are wanting, it is a Job and will do until something better comes along if that is the path you choose to take. Well, I have been at the job I am at now for just over 4 1/2 yrs. which is about the longest I have ever been at one job. I think the time has come to look for something else but it will work until something better comes along.
Before I got this job I was on Unemployment due to a situation beyond my control. I think it took me a little while to find the job once I started looking but I found the job on Craigslist and who would have ever thought I would still be there today.
Wishing you the Best.

I think this is the longest I have actually been without work. Six months. There are not that many things I am qualified for in my town. I am glad you got the job, and you know, the food there is pretty healthy, so it will not sabotage your good health and weight loss. If I was willing to drive a half hour for just a little over minimum wage, I MIGHT find a job. I hope you have a great time.

I too live in a small town. Other than the Subway, we also have a Dollar Store which closes at 8pm (I didn't even bother applying there) a family owned diner, a small market where all the high school kids work, and a gas station. I applied at Subway only because when I filled out the online application I could apply at more than 1 store.. so I applied mainly for the ones that were 15 minutes away, figuring the one in town here would not be hiring. I also applied at the gas station but was told they weren't hiring. I figured whatever I got would be at least a 15 minute drive.

Congratulations, Hon, I KNEW something good would happen for you soon! I happen to LOVE Subway and it's great to know that their food is actually relatively healthy when compared to other fast food restaurants.
I'm like you in that in the past I never had to wait very long to get a job when I was looking for one. Granted, it took me awhile to get in at the USPS but there aren't very many openings there usually and you have to take the test which isn't given all that often.

That's exactly what I told the lady who interviewed me. She asked "Why do you want to work at Subway?".. well, my answer truly was, I just want any job I can get.. but what I said was "Because it's a restaurant I can support and promote due to the fact that it's healthier than fast food."

Not that long, I've been lucky. PS I prefer the mayo on the bread, not on top of the meat. Why is Subway weird like that? lol
Oh yeah, PPS congratulations!

Congrats katsmeow1213. I'm with you. I would be careful walking to your job, especially since it is right across the street. Take it from me, my job is a mere two blocks from my home. I don't want you to discourage or scare you or anything like that. But you never know who is watching you go to and from.
As for me, the longest time I've spent searching for a job was about 3 weeks. I haven't had to search for a job in over 11 years. Hopefully I won't ever have to look for one, especially with the promising increase I've been seeing in my online business.
Congrats again, don't let it slip by, and who knows, you just might end up managing that store or even better owning one of your own, one day! Wouldn't that be grand!

Ew! No! This job is strictly for me to get some extra cash while I'm in school. Once I graduate I'm going in a totally different direction. No way would I want to stay in the food business for more than a year or 2.

First, Congrats! No one said jobs had to be glamorous! Being able to walk to work is a plus given the rising cost of gas. Like you it usually hasn't taken me long to land a job. Usually it's just a week or two.I haven't been out there since Aiden was born. So I am sure it will take me a bit longer the next time I look.

It has been over 3 years since I've held even a part time job. I'm sure that aided in how long it took me to find a job. I'm glad I'll now have something to put on my resume when I begin looking for my next job.

I didn't really try hard for a job. I took up the job as an instructor about 2 years ago and have been here since. After my graduation I just took a month's break doing things that I have never done and going on a trip and then i got back and applied to the post and got selected. The competition was not fierce and I was happy that I was chosen.

You got it because you persevered. Congratulations! And it is great that you do not have far to reach your workplace. You should celebrate tonight. What are the hours? Can your husband look after the children whilst you work? Are you working in the evenings? When I left school to work for a year before I went to college it took me a few months to get work.Wow! I have asked so many questions but I am so happy for you

It will primarily be evening hours, 4pm until the store closes at like 9pm. My father in law will watch the kids because hubby is working until 7 or 9 most nights.

Congratulations on your new job!
I am fortunate enough to land a job after a few weeks of searching. Well the first time i did look for a job it was like only a month, but i never accepted the offer. I was so afraid to get a job that time. And then after that i decided to look for anohter job and i got in in one week of active searching. I accepted it because of the nice salary. I have had 4 jobs after I graduated and have declined 2 job offers aleady. And happy to say that the longest i have been waiting for a job after activly apply for one is only 1 month and that was after graduation. Good thing i enrolled in a training course that helped me on how to answer job interviews. I can say it really helped me a lot with my interviews.

That is great news! An old coworker of mine also worked at Subway and said she liked it very much because it kept her busy and she liked staying busy. She also got either a free 6 inch or footlong meal depending on how long her shift was. I really havent gone without a job yet since i was 10 years old so I guess im pretty lucky
