I am on a trip at the moment with my disabled toddler son and baby daughter. We had a long haul flight to get here amd when we arrived we had found the airline had lost all our luggage. I was so happy to get our luggage taken to our hotel the next day minus three things.
Have you ever had your baggage lost on a trip?

Thankfully I haven't. Have you reported the missing items to airline yet? Seem's strange that there was only a couple of items missing or maybe I'm just being a bit suspicious. Were the items of high value? Sorry to hear about this.

I arrived at the airport and the airline said that my luggage was on its way from Madrid. A man from the airport brought it over to my hotel. My childrens raincover and two sun shades have been lost. These items I will have to buy again at about $70 value. That airline is terrible.

Will they not replace? Strange how they were the only items lost though.

I have never been on a trip where my luggage would have been separated from me..I usually travel by car, so the luggage is always with. My daughter has lost luggage before, but it was eventually returned to her.

Almost.
They put our luggage on an American transport. Why? Because the address on our luggage was USA. Problem was that we were on Canadian Airlines. We were flying from Vancouver, Canada to Montreal, Canada. Then we were meeting relatives who would pick us up and drive us home. So our luggage was going to go from Vancouver to Washington state until I saw our very distingtive luggage on an American transport cart. I chased it and got it retagged Canadian flight whatever number.

Airline companies are notorious for losing luggage. DELTA = Don't Expect Luggage To Arrive. This is why whenever I travel, especially by plane, I take as little luggage as I can possible carry with me. If I can manage to cram enough stuff into a carry-on bag to get me through my trip, I do not check any luggage at all. I take everything I need in my carry-on bag. This means that my bag is with me at all times, and I don't have to worry about it getting lost in the massive amounts of luggage that airport crews have to deal with. This also means that while other passengers are spending time trying to spot their bags on the baggage conveyor, I am already making my way to the exit and getting to where I need to be.

I have learned a long time ago not to pack so much during travelling. I've lost a luggage before, and was on my way to meet a supplier. Luckily, I was travelling with a colleage, who've lent me some essentials before I got my luggage back the following day. I just had to buy some new underwear and shirt so I would at least look presentable to the meeting.
Nowadays, when I travel I only have a hand carried luggage.

Oh yes....the first time we travelled to Ghana in Africa, out suitcase went missing.
And I foolishly had packed ALL of my clothes in it! It came a week later after having travelled half the world. I was lucky since most of the time luggage is stolen and we wouldn't have got anything back.

Hi maxi,
I hope you are enjoying your new year trip. I think traveling is your part of life. So sometime to loose your luggage is a normal feature of your traveling. It is a good news that you got back your lost baggage excepting three. Please don't say your son as disabled. He will able to face his life if he get the proper treatment.

I am so sorry ! What a horrible thing to happen to you. Did you get compensation? I did once receive compensation for a missing bag but the airline refused to compensate for the jewellery lost. That is bot in their coverage and I was a bit miffed but they did pay me replacement value for everything else. It was all such a pain and it happened about ten years ago or so. I have had bags coming in on the next fight as I did not check in early enough and that was A mega pain being at the airport late at night with a four year old and no luggage. hope that this does not happen again to you. Good luck

That must've been stressful for you. I haven't experienced this but my hubby has, over in Las Vegas with his mates. There was a connecting flight from Philadelphia to Las Vegas and his luggage was lost in transit. I can't remember if he said it turned up, I assume it did but half-way through the holiday! Not good!

I came to Shetland once without my luggage. We should I guessed I suppose, as they called for us at the airport in Oslo, our plane from Trondheim was late. But we didn't really think about until we had seen all the other bags pass us but not our rucksacks. We got them the same night, they had to be transported over Stavanger, to Aberdeen and Orkney before reaching Shetland. We didn't know we could buy clothes with the travel insurance if the luggage was more than 4 hours late :-/ Hope you had one so you got what you needed for the night, it must be even more annoying to lose the luggage with childrens clothes etc.
On that Shetland and Orkney trip we had a lot of luggage confusion. When we came to Orkney from Shetland, the confused people at the airport managed not to see the label on my friends rucksack and nearly sent it on to Aberdeen. Then, when we were leaving from Sumburgh to Norway they called my friend up to ask what was in her rucksack. They had managed to swap the labels, so she was asked what kind of dangerous items where hidden in MY rucksack. As it was a very dangerous thermos, they let both of us on the plane :-)
Hope the rest of your trip goes on without further luggage adventures!

What a nightmare! If the airlines lost my luggages, be sure I would be so angry to it. Fortunately I have not experienced such kind of terrible thing yet. Perhaps this is why I won't carry a lot of luggages in my travel. Usually one big bag with two small bags will be fine for me.

I´m So sorry you had problems with your luggage, Maxine. I have had that some time ago but I was not travelling alone. I remember the first time we took the girls to another country. My parents were living then in Puerto Rico and we went for a visit. The girls were 5 and 3 years old. The luggage took a trip around the world, it was New Year and stores were closed and my mom had to lend underwear for everyone

Sorry for the bad news. That will definitely spoiled your mood. This should not and cannot be allow to happen with the airline. I really do not like it that they take things for granted and they should ensure that the luggage must go together with the passengers. That is so important that what if some passenger needed something important that will threaten their life if they lost the baggage, who is going to responsible for such a incident?
I did not travel much and I never lost my luggage during my trip and I do not hope that this will happen to me.

I have not had this experienced. But I heart there are many story like that from my friends. Be careful when you're traveling. Lost the baggage can make more difficult for you in a strange place.

I've never had my baggage lost but I am panicked that it will happen. First off I try not to check bags if possible, but I know that's not always true.
If I have to check bags I make sure to pack a very important carryon. The carry-on has an extra outfit, any medications I need, any IDs/money/tickets etc I may need and necessary clothes such as a swimsuit if I am going some where warm. I think if I was travling with kids I would include their 'lovies' in this category.
That way if your luggage IS lost you can get started with vacation even if you don't have time to go to the store or locate your luggage.
Obviously I pack less carefully on the way home!
