I generally don't put my picture on any social network sites. But a cousin uploaded and edited a picture of mine and placed it on facebook profile. I didn't mind as it was not so bad so I let it stand. Recently, someone grabbed my picture and placed it on a valid public view (I won't mention where) which I didn't know about until my friends told me about it. It was a school affair and I didn't mind this. What bothered me though was the thought that they got my picture without my permission and knowledge. If they could do it here, where else could my picture be? It's really bothersome.
Had anything like this happen to you and what was your reaction? Thanks for sharing.

That is really bothering.
One advice is not to post personal pictures, which might expose you somewhere.
Whenever we post pictures online consider it as a public material even so you placed it under strict privacy but still one of your friends might not think the same way as you are.
It didn't happen to me but some online sites I've gone through are making a profile and looking for a beautiful picture of a girl and post it as their own pretending that they're that person. Which can put you in some troubles.
I'm sure though, but I'm also posting pictures of mine but maybe I might see my picture somewhere else.
Maybe you can report that person or to the admin site where they've seen your picture and maybe they can do something about it.

That's the trouble, milkypink. As you said, posted pictures become public material and there are unscrupulous people who would do with posted pictures anyway they like. It happened in our school where pictures of faculty were made fun of in facebook. This was reported to the administration and the culprits were called. I intend to talk to the person responsible. Though the use was not disrespectful, I still would like to be informed about it.
Thanks for your response.

It really should be reported to avoid misuse of your pictures. Talking to the person might be a good idea however that person might not answer you back or he/she might misunderstand and might arise another problem.
Have a nice day!
Hope everything works out well for you. :)

I have my own picture in some social networking site..But the experience you have got I never had something like that, But I have heard about it..it was happened with one of my friend, she found a friend request from a completely duplicate profile like her..It's really embracing...
But the solution was done by some of the friends by reporting abuse against the duplicate profile and it was deleted bye that social network team after verification.

I don't put my real picture in any site at all. It is because of fear too- like you, that others can easily grab it and post it anywhere. It would've been nice if they asked permission first, anyone could've taken the picture. Posting lots of pictures n the net is very dangerous...

My thoughts exactly. Even a good intentioned act can turn around and do harm. My picture was uploaded by a cousin but became easy prey for others to use. The purpose was grabbing it was not bad but what I didn't like was not knowing about it. Sigh!
Thanks for your response.

hi there.
i am bothered with these issues too, and the possibilities of being a victim on social networking sites like facebook. but it seems really odd when i join sites like that without my real picture on it. it's something to pimp my profile and that somebody i know could easily identify me if they don't know me by my name, or the like. i know it's really risky nowadays but i accepted the fact that it's really inevitable. but of course somehow i try to limit the risk of being a victim by setting a strict privacy.

Social network is a reality today and all that goes along with it. We just have to take it and take precautionary measures. Still, there are those who know how to invade your privacy.
Thanks for your response.

I haven't experienced before that my profile picture has been used by other people. If they used my picture without my permission, I will get angry to them since the didn't ask my permission whether I will let them use or not. It is part of our privacy so it is better that they must inform the owner of the picture before any use be done.

We have every right to be angry. The problem is when we do not know who grabbed our pictures and posted it somewhere else. Sigh!
Thanks for your response.

I haven't experienced anything like this but really if this happens to me I would beat that guy up who has done this. I am really a short-tempered person. I'll beat that guy make his face wounded and post it on FB. Perfect Revenge! :D

I hate to think of what would happen to the erring person if this happens to you. For myself, I shy away from violence but I do get angry, too. Though I think I get what you mean.
Thanks for your response.

This is really one of the disadvantages of posting your pictures online. I haven't experienced this that i know of. Hopefully no one has ever done this to me without my knowing as well. That really is not a really good thing and this will really make me feel upset to the person doing it. We will just have to be cautious when posting photos online and set the status to our facebook account to private so no one can see or grab the photos you uploaded on it.

True,Gaiza. It is not a good thing and it feels like an invasion of your privacy. Not only seems...it is an invasion. I know that once it is posted it becomes public, but I still would like to know when my photo is used and what for. Quite an upsetting thought, really.
Thanks for your response.
