Most people seemed to think that if they stopped holding hands they no longer 'need to' in the relationship. If this is true, why do couples do it in the first place?

holding hands is showing affection. i would say its pretty much what is common among lovers. they hold hands, and they kiss as much as friends talk...

I think that holding hands doesn't give much of an effect as many people think they do. I mean holding hands at the beginning of a relationship just shows that the lover just received the others feelings and their hearts connected. Holding hands is just a visual connection of the lover's hearts connected. But as time pass by, holding hands isn't necessary because the twos hearts are beyond the surface of the ice and their bond is strong that holding hands isn't necessary to show how deep their bond is.

Don't you think that maybe, couples hold hands because it's nice to have? Makes you feel comforted and closer to them? Have you ever held hands with someone you're in a relationship with? Its pretty nice. I think asking that kind of question is like asking, "Do people eat chocolate because it can add more weight to them?"

hold hands - hold hands.
Hello to you! I dont agree with it, i never liked to hold hands with my boyfriend on the street just to show off, i hold his hand only when i feel the need.It doesn`t matter if you hold hands or not, you both know what are you feeling about each other, you don`t need to show that to the world, and hold hands. Hold hands only if you feel the need to hold hands with your boyfriend or a girlfriend, not only for the world to see.

Hey Mark98, Before, I asked the same question. But when I had a boyfriend, I finally knew the answer. It is a sign of love. It is a connection between lovers. Some don't hold hands in public since it is considered PDA. But it depends on the place you are in.

hi there. i don't see something wrong with that. there must be a lot of reasons why couple do that, and that includes my partner and i. every time we go out or just anywhere, we always hold hands. for her, she told me holding my hands make her feel safe. she also said it's a way to express our love towards each other to everyone. it's something to do with possession, and connection between the couples. for us it really is essential to hold hands anywhere. it makes us feel secure to each other.

The willingness to share the sense of touching each other in public is good for the heart and the relationship. Besides, when they are behind close doors, they don't have time to hold hands!

i think holding hands in public has no big difference in giving warmth, communication and connection with each other. Its also one way of assisting or protecting our partner especially when we are in a crowded area or if going to cross the street. i has lots of meaning. Be it in public or not im sure love and affection is always present in that act.

As soon as a child can walk it holds hands and learns that this is a secure thing to do. It represents love and protection. Lovers also us this as a show of security and protection.

Holding hands is a way to express the connection between lovers. But there are other reasons. http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2006/10/06/couples-holding-hands/ Check that article then tell me what you think.

There's something in this couple holding hands. It's a kind of nonverbal communication relaying the warmth and love is still there. It's a kind of assurance that one is there to stand by and stay at your side. It's a continuation of romance. How I wish that even in old age, my partner will still hold my hands!
