My Personal preferred anti-virus suite is the Comodo Internet Security suite.
The anti-virus suite suitable for you would depend on factors like personal preferences, system configuration, and Internet surfing habits. CIS for example would at least initially require a lot of user input, especially if set to paranoid mode. Many users prefer letting their anti-virus software do all the work.
Depending on a few variables CIS may require more system resources compared to say, Avast. Whatever, I currently have more faith in CIS.

well.. I also agree that if you want to use free antivirus.. go for AVG.. it's the best one till the date I have observed.. though simple Autorun and other protections are different thing but big attack AVG can withstand.. that's why I like it among free AVs..

I've been using Avast since I found that AVG is not as efficient as Avast. I've got quite a few clients having their PCs infected often while they had AVG on but after Avast I find that less of such things happen. But I must say that AVG uses more system resources compared to AVG. Check out the URL below on a review:

Avast is better than AVG for sure! I had various viruses and trojans that sneaked throught the net when I used AVG, as soon as I switched to Avast, 99% of those problems dried up! I swear by Avast! :-)

I had Norton and got rid of it. Right now I use a free download from Malwarebytes and it has saved me many times whereas Norton did not.
You can either buy Malwarebytes or get the free download. It can also be used alongside other anti-virus programs with no problem. They also have a chat room if you're having problems. I highly recommend it but it's your choice. Here is the website address if you're interested....www.malwarebytes.com....easy to install too.
With the free download you will have to scan your computer yourself. When you pay for it, it scans by itself. When I start working again, I will for sure by the product and I've used it for a few years now with no regrets.

I've been using AVG for years and it usually works well for me although there is probably better freeware out there if I bothered to look for a new one I'm sure I'd find some but AVG has been tried and tested by me and I'm happy enough with it.
