To all those who use Internet Explorer. Have you heard abnout the new threat; http://au.news.yahoo.com/queensland/a/-/newshome/8755443/microsoft-issues-critical-warning-over-explorer-bug/ Will you continue to use IE? What will you do? I have IE on my computer but I use mainly FF. Is having IE on my computer a risk?

Yes I have noticed that as well. I seem to be getting a lot of pop-up notices about script running, url not valid, etc.

WEll I ususally get teh fixits automaticly and when I shut down they will looad before puter goes off. also have a great anti virus that catches every thing. I tried foxfire once and it slowed me down so much I took it off not sure what I would do but guess I will stick wit IE as thats they only one I haeve really ever used!

Itt's good you have the automatic updates turned on because many people turn them off and recommend others to turn them off saying they are unnecessary. That sounds weird to me...lol. I find FF much faster than either IE or Chrome, some people find Chrome much faster than Firefox...I have no idea why and how all these variations occur.

This is the first that I've heard of this and I normally use IE, and I have updates turned on so the patch that they refer to should have been automatically downloaded and installed. However, a few days ago I found that there is now a 64-bit Firefox browser - version 4.0 beta, so I've decided to try it and to take part in the beta testing program so I'm now using FF as my main default browser anyway.

I hope you are able to stay threat free. If it's at all possible for you to still be infected I would visit Microsoft and ensure that the fix is attached to you computer.

Great discussion..MsTickle...but you have thrown the fear of darkness into me! I am still quite a neophyte with my computer...and the only browser I have is IE...so guess I had best brace myself (like the East is bracing for this awful storm!) I am asking a huge favour...you have mentioned twice to visit Microsoft, but now, not knowing how to do this...am afraid to use my browser to find site. Is it possible, please, and I mean REALLY please, that you could post a link to Microsoft...I would be so ever grateful! One of my biggest fears...is that my computer goes down..as I live on a small Island, and we do not have computer services...nor "techies"! Thank you, so much and Cheers!

if you don't open it, they can't attack it

I only use it for work for the company site, because it doesn't work on other browsers. However, R persists in using it on the home computer. I did use FF, but I've switched to Chrome....

i only used to use internet explorer once in a while. i switched to chrome. recently i have heard ie is the worst browser in terms of security and i have stopped using it completely. it is a lot slower than chrome and crashes more, so why not just use a more secure, safer, and faster browser.

Thank God I switched over to FF long time back! There was a time when I was an ardent fan of IE but then I really don’t know why, IE started taking so long to open...specially with Gmail that I was forced to switch over to FF. since then, I’ve been using FF and enjoying it thoroughly. I’ve no plans to go back to IE but I do hope something soon is done by Microsoft about this vulnerability of IE...so many people I know are using IE and this virus thing I’ve come to know only thru mylot and my friends here...what about the others? Not everybody is reading yahoo news!!!

Hi sudipta, nice to see you friend. I don't think it's a virus, it's more of a bug or error that allows a malicious hacker to gain entrance and steal your personal details like your passwords and things like that. It's true mate, so many people are still using IE and saying it's the greatest. I felt like a weight was taken off my shoulders when I began to use Firefox.

OK so would you recommend firefox or chrome I was using firefox and chrome a few times and I like it I don't see difference with IE but reading this, I probably would go with FF or chrome I think your pc is safe if you have sufficient firewall, ID protection and all toehr protections there but yeah this post got me thinking :)

My immediate choice isd Firefox because I'm accustomed to it now. So saying, the last upgrade has some glitches. Some people prefer Chrome because it's "safer and faster" I did not find it to be faster, quite the opposite actually. The way to go is to try them both for about a month each and see how you like them. Yeah, reading the news item got me thinking too.

I wouldn't say that having I.E on your computer is a threat, whilst the security issues continue, I wouldn't use it though, but knowing Microsoft, they will fix the bug quite soon. I never use IE these days as I find it too slow and unstable. I use Chrome and Firefox. _Derek

I'm still wondering too Hatley. Because it came with the computer it seems to be an integral part of the whole thing and so I hesitate to delete it. I would not even know how to go about deleting it or even disabling it. Maybe no-one knows but they don't want to admit it?

donno if you saw my answer below yours but, if you don't open it, don't use it, then it isn't going to go out there and get infected...

I will continue to use IE. I have sufficient antivirus and firewalls in place as well as some other web "police" programs. I've never had any problems with these safeguards over the years that I've been using computers.

It's not that sort of threat. It's one where your personal details and information can be obtained from your computer. Hope you can do something to avoid the problem.

Yeah...one of my 'safeguards' is getting the automatic downloads of the fixes that come from MS. I don't have to log in to the site and rummage through all of the download choices.

Sometimes you will require IE as it is recommended by some bank for online transaction.Though I also use fire fox like you do...But I don't think the people who use IE will change there browser.

MsTickle, According to Microsoft, this vulnerability is affecting IE browser only. IE is the only handler for MHTML protocol and as such other browsers are not affected. To understand more about this and install the temporary fix, you may want to access the link below. Take care and have a nice day. Ref: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2501696

I had not heard that, but I try and stay away from any and all windows based products. I have Safari, FF, and Opera installed on my Mac. My wife always uses Safari, and I switch between them all. To be honest, I like the features on Opera the most, and Safari the least, but unfortunately browser speed seems to be opposite. Anyway, thanks for the heads up, so I don't use IE at school.

Such threats aren't any new by now. Every week Micro$oft themselves or a hacekr or user discover one of such menaces that seems to be the end of Windows, but nothing happens really. IE is quite weak, but thinking seriously, few hackers are interested in home users and generaly go after some more serious targets. Nervertheless, the bug exists, as well as hundreads of other similars. IE is by far the worst browser and all users know it's quite easy for a hacker to toy with it if he wants. I hope that no one will use IE, but unfortunately, people is lazy to search for alternatives and stick with the well know slow and buggy IE. I left it years ago in favor of Opera, which is much faster, secure and bug free.

this related in any way with the Banksy Facebook Revolution? Banksy Graffiti are popping up on many facebook profiles these days.
