How often and how do you get your payroll in your country?

I've heard there are big differences among countries when it comes to the way and frequency with which you get paid by your employer. For example, in most European countries payroll comes once a month, and often by a bank transfer. I know that in many other countries all around the world, people get paid weekly, or even every two weeks, and get paid by check, or other means. What's the common way in your country?

I have worked various jobs where I have been paid in different ways. In the beginning, it was always by check. My first job I worked for my dad's doughnut shop and I got paid weekly. The next job I had I worked for the state and I got paid twice a month I think (the main check that had all the taxes taken out of it and two weeks later I had a "mid-month draw" that was not taxed). Other jobs I got paid weekly and some I got paid monthly. I guess it really depends on the company.

I guess you've gone through almost every possibility, hehe...any that you prefer over the others perhaps?

If I have two jobs, I like one once a month and one weekly. That worked pretty well for me. If I have only one job, I prefer to have either weekly or bi-weekly. Having to go a month at a time without money is really hard to do.

It really varies alot here. I have heard of people getting paid mostly weekly and bi-weekly. My company requires us to have our money direct deposited. Alot of companies pay by check.

By law most provinces here have labour law that states we must be paid once a month. However most employers pay twice a month. Either every two weeks or on the first and 15th of the month is common. However some companies pay weekly. I live in Canada.

Yeah, I know several Canadians, and most of them get paid biweekly....anyway, I didn't know that law says you must get paid once a month, at least theoretically. thanks for the input.

Most of the companies in my country pay their employees on a bi-monthly basis, usually on the 15th and the 30th of each month. By law, salaries are given in cash or check. Most companies have already tie-ups with banks so that salaries of employees directly go to a payroll account and can be withdrawn via an ATM card. But there are still some who are paid on an hourly basis or on a daily basis. These are mostly blue-collar workers.

I had heard of that system before, but frankly I cannot think of any company that pays like that here in Spain. Some pay in cash or check, true, but not most, and when they give you cash it's directly, not through a card you can withdraw many with. It's good to learn new stuff! thanks for sharing.

it really depends on what your job is. For instance my mother, who is a teacher, get paid by the State by bank wire every 23rd of the month. My father, who is instead member of the council of administration of a business, get paid by bank wire every 10th of the month. Other people here in Italy get paid by cash, but that's not that legal...

well if you're in Italy then it must be quite similar to here in Spain. At least your parents' case is pretty much like mine.

Here, we get paid once a month, and the salary is usually transferred to your bank account, but there are people who get paid by cheque as well. I don't though!
