HI Chiyosan !.
I don't really mind making friend with my boss. They will not know much because I am not the kind of people who updating all my feeling or rant there. They will know thing they already know.
I am not the kind of people who if i hate someone the whole world would know about it. I just keep it myself and rarely say something bad about it but my close friend know about not enthusiastic talking about someone its mean I don't like the person and don't wanna hear any thing about it.

Most of the time I say no definately not. I wrote something on my facebook wall that wasn't even that bad and it got back to my boss and I got talked to. I ended up deleting a bunch of coworkers off my facebook. I want my privacy. Work is work and it stays there.
I might make an exception if I had a really cool boss or a boss I was friends with before I got the job.

I know that my boss is in Facebook too but I have never added him or anything like that. I often log into Facebook during my working hours and chat a lot. supposedly If I add my boss into my account then he will surely come to know that I am doing time pass during the working hours and I will definitely face problems. So I have never thought of taking the risk.

Being friends with your boss in facebook could be taken the wrong wrong way. what may be perfectly innocent may look like trying to score points at work,. Make friends with your boss at work before making your boss a facebook friend.

nope. i don't like the idea.. actually i just deleted them on my friends list. Facebook here in our office was blocked and there is no way to access my account. Besides i don't like them to see me of course browsing the web, so i don't accept them as my friend, to avoid also being notice.

Are you serious? Are you not aware that many companys that are hiring, now look at Facebook for a "reference" to someone they are considering hiring and if they don't like what your facebook says about you, they won't hire you!?!?! I am serious! That is the big thing these days with hiring! First they invade you financial life and ran your credit report, now they invade your personal life and check online about you. When do they ever just check skills, abilities and past preformance to see if you can do the job? Seems that is never an issue to be hired on. But I digress....NO NO NO Of course NOT...never include your boss on something personal like facebook or personal events and the like. You most definately want to keep your business life seperate from your personal life. I wouldn't even have my friends at work on my FB. They talk. They talk to others and to the boss. And soon as they need what you have, they will turn on you and use your FB info against you. Good grief...do yourself the biggest favor you will ever do for yourself...including breathing....DO NOT include your boss or friends at work on your facebook!

No i would not add my boss.I can add colleagues and friends as that's my personal life and i wouldn't like my boss to know what's going on between us colleagues and friends.I believe in having a personal and professional life separate.I have learned this lesson a few months back in a very harsh way.

No, I wouldn't. Let him boss me around whenever I'm in his office or if it is time for work but after that, I don't want to deal with him anymore.
There are certain things that shouldn't be carry over outside office premise and out in the line of work. Befriending my boos in fb isn't going to help. I'll always be wary that I'll be posting something that might offend him or that something I should not disclose with my employer.
I'd rather have a little space from my boss and enjoy my personal, private life.

No, I don't actually consider adding my boss in my facebook account. They might know I am online most of the time and might kick me out for not doing my job well because I am chatting and playing with my apps in facebook :D And you are right, he might know what im up to and what I feel (I really am a fan of posting what I feel on my status). So no, no and no adding my boss on fb =P

I would say that if you do a great many personal sharing on facebook that it would not be advisable. When I was working I personally blocked certain people, including my boss as I did not want to mix business with pleasure.

Yeah and what happens on those days you call in "sick" as you need the time for something else and mention it on your wall and your boss reads it and says "humm...she called in sick that day. Sure sounds like she was feeling better". And what about when you talk to your FB friends about a problem...now the boss knows too and watches to see if it effects your work so as to have reason to fire you when he needs it? To many things can go wrong if your boss and co-workers know what all you do or don't do when you are away from the office. To me...not at all worth the risk

I also did this scheme to my FORMER bosses. Whenever I share photos or any posts with regard work, I usually filter them and block my bosses and some of my colleagues or seniors. Most of my bosses open facebook every now and then and sometimes sneak on their employees. Some of them would post some comments. I just find it awkward. And yes personal matters must not be mixed in with some business/professional matters. I just don't understand why some of my bosses take personal and work in one.duh?

I originally joined Facebook to connect with my parents and family far away, so I already have to keep what I say on there family-friendly. I have a lot of colleages on there and actually got the job I have now through networking with friends on FB. My boss doesn't use it but I am friends with his wife and lots of my coworkers. For me I've found that is NOT a site where I can say any old thing on my mind, but that's ok. I can share stuff that family and coworkers don't need to know about other places.

Hi there chiyosan!!!
I don't actually plan on being friends with my boss on facebook. This is becoz I remember the time when our dean in school warns us about something like this. She told us a story about someone he knew that was fired in his job becoz his boss saw his posts in his facebook account.I don't know what particular thing that person posted on his facebook but I am sure it is bad.
Well after knowing this story I become so cautious with adding friends in facebook especially those people I am working with.I don't want this to be the coz of conflict in my job and I don't want it to ruin my career.

I don't have a job and don't work. But if I did, I don't think I would add my friends or some colleages as my friends on facebook; I think it is better to stay not too too close to the workmates esepcially if it is competitive, I wouldn't want my workmates know too much about my personal life and things.

NO ways !
I wont even have my colleagues on FB . My life is way to personal and sensitive for anybody from my office to comment on .

I already added my boss, which is not a big problem for me, since I don't use facebook very often. I have also added a lot of our clients who requested it (I never have the initiative in these issues ) and I didn't want my boss to suspect that I'm trying to steal his clients or anything like that. He can see that I log in rarely, and only to wish somebody happy birthday, so it's ok.
I wouldn't want him on any social network where I'm actually active, though. Especially on those networks (like myLot here) where I post during office hours

having to add them to your account, i think that meant you should really be careful with your posts and comments.. =) but i think right now, there are facebook options where you can not allow other people to see or look into your account. Thank you for your time to reply to the discussion. appreciate your effort in this. So sorry that i have replied to the discussion this late. have a great day and see you around the site! God Bless You!

I would add my boss if I know he understands some fun ... but anyway, you can make friend-lists and exclude friend-lists from seeing posts or comments. So there is no reason why not to add. You can specify what a friend-list is able to see and what they are not able to view. That's how I handle it - having a friendslist named "Work" which includes all people I know from internships/business contacts etc and they are mostly excluded from seeing my posts.
