Hi good evening..
I had formatted so many times.Since i am system administrator i had done lot of time.
Even i had formatted my own Lap and pc many times.
Format will reduce a little amount of size in the HDD. This space is used for holding the information of the formatted details. This information is used for recovering the formatted data.

Yes dreamsharmin, you should just format your computer if needed.
This will increase the life span of your hard disk. But you should regularly make backup of your files because you will never know when you will need to reformat your computer again.
Creating backup copy of your files also saves disk space because you can already get rid of your old files and won't clutter in your computer. Once you have a backup you will feel that your files are secured and you can only store in your computer the files that you use all the time.

Hi there siliguri!!!
I've formatted my pc several times before and I didn't experienced any problem.I have studied my pc very well before formatting my pc and carefully perform procedures while doing it.I don't often format my pc coz it is not advisable to do so.I only perform a formatting of pc when it has a virus and can't be repaired anymore.
You should not be scared of formatting your pc.Just try and study your computer carefully and then watch some tutorials or read books about how to format a pc and there you go, you are ready to format a pc.It is really a nice feeling having fixed your pc all by yourself.

Yeah, I used The OS CD too. And when I'm about to format my computer it is always in a critical situation that I can't backup some files. luckily, I have 2 partition, one for the system, and one for my data, so I never stored any very-very important data in the system disk. So what'll be lost is only setting and programs.

well .. almost once in 3-4 months have to do it .. i work more on linux and less on windows.. with constantly new versions of linux coming up. .and to be updated wid latest features ,...im bound to format my pc and upgrade it to new linux distro.. :).. its frightening...but somebody has to do it. .and it asks way too much security questions ..which minimizes the risk of YOU causing any error

well, formatting your hard drive is not dangerous as long as you have back-up copies of all your files... cause when you do formatting whether you like it or not, all the files will be erased in your hard drive... cheers... please feel free to add me up

Hi there..
Actually it's not that dangerous if you're just familiar with how to do it. At first I was also afraid to format my own computer but I've been used to it. Other people will also ask me to format their computers and it pays to know some basics in repairing computers. I learned to format computers because I have one and I can't rely all the time to call a technician. It's just familiarity with the process.
Computers, or hard disks rather, should not be formatted very often. You should just format your disk if necessary like for example a failure in the operating system. The reason is that the more often we format our hard disks, its life span decreases.
