It's perfectly possible, but you need to check out some things before you do, so you don't have compatibility issues later.
Check you current RAM modules, and make sure the new motherboard will support them, if not you'll have to change those too.
The power supply must support it too, mainly newer cards often use more power than older ones, so check.
Also, verify that all your cards on the expansion slots are compatible with the new hard, like video cards, network and so on. Again, if not, you may need to change those too.
Your cabinet must physicaly be able to acomodate the newer components, usualy motherboards are labeles with a letter from A to D specifing its size, check that your cabinet can fit.
Also think on the cooling, specially if you're purchasing a newer device it may be more hot than the previous so watch out for all the necesary cooling holes are in good shape.
And the software. One everything is in place, if you're on Windows you'll likely have to reinstall the whole system, because the very probable drivers issues between the older drivers and the new. It's possible to make it work, but I think it's not worth the effort and the risk of drivers conflict. By the way, search for the drivers for your OS before doing anything.
It may seem a lot that I'm writing here, but are quite simple things to check before purchasing and making sure that you'll not have any problem later.

It's not that lengthy, it takes actualy longer to say than to do. In fact the motherboard is the center piece of the whole computer and it has to be compatible with everything, that's the complex part.
I think, if your new mother is compatible with your current hardware, it's better to replace it only and leave the rest. But if you're going to need to change most of the rest, best to go for a whole new computer anyway, and keep them both or sell the older.

Sure it is possible 100 percent.
Things need to check before go for up-gradation or changing
1.Existing configuration including board model, processor speed and model,Ram speed and model and size
2.Check for configuration you are in need.
3.Processor, RAM and HDD must be equal in configuration for accessing the load.Unless system will not meet its 100 percent worth efficiency

yes you can replace both board and processor for upgrading. replacing board and process is a very easy situation. 1st is to think on how you use your computer, if you are in a gaming zone choose board and processor that can support high quality games but it will cost you alot compare in buying a normal board and processor for business applications and internet surfing only and some movie playing.

Dear Mahesh,Normally people have problems if they want to change the processor which is may or may not be compatible with the mother board existing in their PC. But it seems you have decided to change the mother board also I think you can definitely go in for new processor along with he mother board. But then I fail to understand one ting if you change mother board and processor, you will have to go in for the RAM of higher GB which will depend upon the processor and mother board you are using. Then except for the Hard Drive almost you are changing every thing ! Then why don't you go in for a new assembled Computer in exchange of this PC of yours which may work out slightly expensive than your present plan. There every thing will be new and with almost recent configurations!
Well that is ultimately your decision what to do,but I would have gone in for the exchange as recently my cousin did it and he is happy with the system. He practically changed every thing except the Monitor , Key Board, Mouse and Sound system! He is happy with the set! All the best dear friend! Hope to hear from you soon regarding your new PC! Thanks !

All you need to do is to take the motherboard to the shop and ask them to provide the motherboard that will be compatible with the RAM, HDD, SMPS and other parts that you already have and don't want to replace. A motherboard can be replaced only with another motherboard that supports the same RAMs and HDD. For example, earlier motherboards used to run both SATA and ATA Hard disk drives. Now in latest motherboards you may not find any provision for ATA at all. Also the motherboard that is compatible with DDR2 RAMs will not function with DDR3. There are other important compatibility issues like the Processor Socket and Power requirement. It's better if you just take either the motherboard or the book provided with the motherboard to the computer shop and ask them for a better replacement. However, my suggestion would be that you,
1. Replace the motherboard + processor
2. Check if it is compatible with the RAM you have
3. If you have a ATA drive you better check out if the new motherboard supports it
4. Check the power requirement of your new motherboard. You may need a new SMPS

You can do this sometimes, it depends on compatibility, as well as the size, and power usage of the new processor and motherboard comepared to the new one, as well as the fact that if your pc is a non-upgradable one or not (aka, dont do this on a mac or a laptop). What you need to do is get your new motherboard and processor, and stick them on a clean surface, maybe some clean newspaper or sheets or something. Then you need to have an "air duster", and a screwdriver. Turn off the pc, and remove the casing using the screwdriver. Blow any excess dust away with the duster (usin a cloth can scratch the electronics. Then you need to take out (or at least, un plug) the extra memory cards, sound cards, video cards, and put them to one side. Finally, take out the old motherboard, and stick it all back together

You can upgrade the motherboard and cpu but with prices of computers now adays, it usually makes more sense to just purchase a new one.
When replacing motherboards and cpus, you are usually lookng at least $200. You will also have to decide of you want video, audio, and internet built in to the motherboard. If you want video good enough for playing games like halo or you do any video editing, you will want a dedicated video card. You will also need to upgrade to new faster memory as most motherboards support ddr3 now. And finally you will more than likely have to upgrade your power supply to keep up with this new demand.
And finally, most motherboards will now handle sata hard drives and sata dvd/blu ray roms which are faster then the old ide style.
So once you break it all down, it usually just makes more sense to buy a whole new system with all the newer components. You will also get a new operating system as well.

Yes it's possible to change or replace the motherboard and processor of computer. But i don't know how to do this so.I think you can take your computer to any computer shop where computer repair or sell.
then the work will be perfect.
So all the best!

It depends on the age difference between the original and new mainboards, but it can be done. You might have to change your power supply too, and memory type could be different. Also, on old computers, the type of video card may not be compatible. Whatever problems you face, it will still be cheaper than buying a whole new computer.

Yes I actually suggest upgrading of computers. The first thing you have to look for is the motherboard because every peripherals depends on it. Processor and RAM also depends on it because you cannot simply upgrade these parts without knowing the type of motherboard you have. We have this so called limitations. For example, not all motherboards has the capacity to handle 2GB RAMS or do not support dual core processors. Just what renee said above, you should check for compatibility issues.
