Eating before sleeping?

Just wondering what you think about sleeping right before you go to bed. Do you like the feeling of being full and going to sleep? Do you like the feeling of being content and slightly empty in the stomach? I personally love the feeling of being quite empty, eating hours before I go to bed, but once in a while I eat right before sleep. How about you?

eating before sleeping? a no-no for me indeed. not only, cause I got medical problems because of it, because eating just before you go to sleep is very harmful for your esophagus since when you're in a laying position your stomach can't process normally and stomach acid starts to come up into your esophagus. now I'm not saying this can happen to everyone, but eating before going to sleep can damage your lower esophageal spinchter which then causes this process of acid coming up, so I'd refrain from eating before sleeping at least 4 or 3 hours before you go to bed for your own health's sake, because trust me, it's very frustrating.
so yeah for me it's all empty stomach and sleep rather than feeling full and going to sleep since if I do it every once in awhile I'll wake up with a very bad burn in my esophagus and a very bad taste in my mouth, so I try not to go there and sometimes rather choose going a little 'hungry' to bed than going to eat and then sleep.
Plus, if you eat late at night this doesn't really benefit your whole body so to speak, since you'll wake up in the morning with a very bad hunger since you 'break' the body's normal rhythm of digesting food and if at all this food you ate at night 'benefits' only more fat on your body, so one more reason to say not to late night eating.

your welcome. the knowledge needs to be shared right. of course, there's almost always logic behind things and its good if you know what's good and whatnot.

I didn't know that about the esophagus not being able to do its job. Thanks for the info. I learn something new everyday. I usually do go to sleep with a slightly empty stomach anyway. It just feels better to me. Glad to hear that theres logic behind it.

Hello meditated1! I personally don't like going to bed at night with a full stomach. I feel very heavy and uneasy if I sleep while still full. I prefer to go to bed a few hours after I've eaten. That way, I feel light and comfortable. Also, it is dangerous to go to bed with a full stomach.

I usually eat my last meal at 6 p.m..I try to eat more at that hour so I wouldn't feel the need to eat again before I go to bed.I don't like to feel full before I go to bed at night, and my body got used to this style,so I have no intention to change it.I think it's better for my health not to eat before I sleep.

Yeah thats exactly what I did. I got used to just eating hours before sleep and then falling asleep. I definitely think its better for my health, and I love the feeling of waking up and being hungry for the day.

I try not to eat right before I go to bed...I find it usually doesn't help me fall asleep anyway. Most times it just makes me more awake. I don't know if it entirely matters though, since I don't really have a set sleeping schedule to begin with. Sometimes I'll fall asleep around 11pm, other times I can't fall asleep until 3am.
Sometimes I'll randomly wake up in the middle of the night and feel the impulse to eat something, even though I'm barely awake. It's pretty strange.

Yeah I have the same non-schedule. I almost never eat before I go to bed unless I can't go to sleep because of how empty my stomach feels and then I'll have to munch on something.

I usually don't eat before going to sleep, because I when I wake, I am hungry. Then usually hungry all day. Now at my age I try not to drink anything, as I will wake several times a night to use the bathroom.

Well anyone who wants to be obese can do that regularly, eating before sleeping. It is not a healthy habit so if you don't wanna end up having problem with your health make sure you have given your body sometime to digest your food before you go to bed. In fact, it is even advised to those who are watching their weight to avoid eating after 6 pm.

If I eat right before bed, my heart races and then I can't sleep. My mother is the opposite. If she is hungry she can't sleep. I think eating before bed must be bad for your body. You are supposed to be resting, and your digestive system is trying to work.

No it really is not good to eat before you go to bed. At least it is not good for me. There are a few times where I have eaten even a couple of hours before bed. However the food is still digesting and I don't get much sleep, because it is really just getting me up and heading to the bathroom a bit more.
So no I really do not eat a lot before I go to bed. There are times where I am forced to, because of the time factor in the day. Not really having as much time as I would like to eat during the day. So I feel like I have to eat something, because it can be a long time before I am able to eat Breakfast the next morning. Still it is not something that I do all that often.

I do not eat before sleeping; I drink milk. I believe it makes my stomach so loaded, therefore it's unhealthy. During sleeping we do not have so many activities, so why eat. It's some kinda of detoxification if we don't eat a lot before sleeping.

There's kind of an idea of 'being finished' that makes one content as one looks back over their day, and being fully fed supports such contentment.

The last thing I eat before going to sleep is at least 4 hours before bed time. I have eaten closer to bedtime, but a few hours after falling asleep I have been awokend by an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. I think it is very diffictult for the digestive system to work properly when a person is lying down and shouldn't really be done. _Derek

Hi, for me I prefer of being full before I sleep because I tried once that I sleep when my stomach is empty and when I wake up I terribly not in condition, my stomach is aching and then collapsed. That is why I promise to myself even if I am so tired I will it first before I go to bed.

I really do not think it is a good idea to be eating to the fullest before sleeping. Generally, it kills. I believe the reason behind is that the pancreas will burst. When a person sleeps, there is a big difference in his body as compared to him when he is awake. It is also during this time when the body produces and heals from the hard day's work. Injuries recover faster when one takes in enough sleep. Blood production happens during this stage, when one is in a slumber. Therefore, i do not think digestion happens during this time.

Eating right before sleeping is not a good practice according to some of the articles i have read. I like to be a half full and half empty when i go to sleep. Going to bed full leads to me having an upset tummy in the morning which is really uncomfortable. :)

well, it is not that good to eat before you sleep. cus if you fill your stomach, then your stomach have to work after it digest your food. and only ater that you will have a good sleep. so you will often likely to sleep more and feels tired when you get up in the morning.
