Fish Stick Tacos?? What do you think?

I just saw a commercial for Gorton's Crunchy Breaded Fish Sticks. They were suggesting a new way to make tacos for your family. The commercial said, "Make taco night a fiesta with the goodness of Gorton's Crunchy Fish sticks!"
To me that was just nasty sounding and looking. I've attached a picture from the commercial. I just thought it was about the grossest thing I could think of. I would never pair fish sticks with anything even remotely Mexican tasting, let alone as an ingredient in anything as the meat portion of the recipe. Blech! I really don't even like fish sticks but I would not serve them with anything other than maybe than some french fries or mashed potatoes, a salad, and some tater tots. Other than that it just sounds gross. Does this "taco night" with fish sticks idea sound good to anyone? It doesn't to me.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I lived in the Southwest for years and fish tacos are a popular item there. My ex just loved them! I can't imagine that they would taste good, though, and I never tried them. Maybe I should have. Maybe I will when I go there this year to visit my sons and some friends. But fish sticks?! I like them if they aren't fishy but they're too high in fat and calories for me to indulge very often!

dragon we have whole little cafes here in sou thern california that sell mostly fish tacos. I love Gortons fish sticks so everyone this is only my own liking and do not scold me for it please I also love fish tacos made with fresh fish cooked nicely and covered with good tartar sacue.Gortons really are not all that fatty or greasy. also dragon if it tastes what you call fishy its stale fresh fish does not have that yuckky fishy odor.people are so used to buying fish that have been around awhile that they do not realize fresh caught fish have no so
called fishy odor.not to gross out anyone but that fishy smell comes from fish that are already breaking down and are giving off amonia fumes. So much fish in our markets have been shipped several days before hand and by the time y ou get so called fresh fish they are not fresh and are breaking down and giving off unpleasant fishy odoer. same as a babys wet diaper does if it sets around very long not a ppetizing at all fish that are old and fishy smelling we buy our fish fresh from fishersmans dory on Newport b/each as they are fresh caught the day you buy them and are a lot cheaper than buying in the grocery store. fresh fish tastes so much better than the stuff in the supermarkets.

I had a fish taco at a restaurant on a pier in San Diego, I could not tell you the name, but I had a menu once I think it may have been Ruby's Diner (note, it was NOT Ruby Tuesday's). I did not enjoy it, but I was not feeling really well that day anyway. Last year during Lent Taco Tico had fish tacos that were fish sticks. They did not impress me. I do not mind eating salsa on fish sticks, I eat salsa on anything, but I really prefer some other herbs or seasoning on fish. I also like tartar sauce on fish, well that just does not make it a taco, it makes it a fish stick in a taco shell. I do not remember the last time I bought fish sticks. I have had some breaded fish portions, but I really prefer to leave the breading off.

Hi. schulzie. I know that I will love this, most definitely! As long as the fish sticks are properly cooked, I will eat them. I love fish sticks and I think that this would taste really good to eat on a taco. If the fish was uncooked, I could never see myself eating it then.

Too funny! I can see the commercial in my head( I am in tears laughing) But I am with you I would never eat fish stick that way. I don't eat fish sticks period but with tacos it doesn't make it more attracted at all. I didn't see your picture, but I'm checking it out now.

Here we have these places called Wahoos Fish Tacos. I went in one day to check it out. At that time the only meat i ate was seafood. So it sounded interesting. I will try anything once. It was really good!!! When i first started eating it i was angry because it tasted like chicken. I opened it up to have a look and saw it flaked apart like fish so when i left i asked what kind of fish it was. They said Maui Maui. I started buying that fish and using it in recipes that called for chicken. Anyway i did eat many fish tacos since then. One mexican place i went to had fish tacos on the menu. I had ordered togo and was riding the bus. When i got home i pulled out these fish tacos and i was sooooooo angrrrrry. All it was was a fish stick inside of a corn tortellia, nothing else. If i had stayed there to eat id have been back up to the counter asking my money back. To make matters even worse the fish sticks were all dried out.
So no to fish sticks but yes to fish.

OK This is my thought on it anyway. Try it first then you can say something as we have all told our children you don't know until you try it. I would use tarter sauce instead however. LOL as I love it. Have a great day

That just sounds nasty!Yck, pooey! Who thought of that? There are tons of other ways to make healthy tacos without ruining them with fish sticks. Mind you I like fish - but not on my taco!

I've not seen a commercial for making fish tacos at home. However, there are some Mexican restaurants around here that sell fish tacos. I have to admit that I've never tried them. Don't get me wrong at all, I love tacos and I like fish as well. However, the thought of having fish in my tacos is something that completely turns my stomach. To me, I think that there is something about Mexican spices with fish that just wouldn't go too well together.

I would try them. I like fish sticks and I have some friends that rave about fish tacos. I didn't think it sounded good when I first heard of them but with several people telling me how good they are, I would have to try them to find out for myself. Sometimes different flavors can combine to make something good. You never know until you taste.

sorry schulzie but do not knock Gortons fishsticks if you have never ate them. Here in Southern california fish tacos are looked at as being as good to eat as the more greasy oily McDonalds crapola hamburgers. Personally I like Gortons fish products and yes I like their fish sticks too.But if I put them in tacos I would use tartar sauce and Hidden valley ranch dressing as toppings not tomato sauce.WE had fresh fish tacos in Ensenada so yes they are very Mexican, not talking Gortons here but freshly caught and cooked fish.I would never serve fish sticks with french fries that seems gross and tater tots to me are blech gross. oily nasty way of serving good potatoes. I love french fries or mashedc or baked p otato.,not tater tots, yuck and also corn dogs they are gross looking and vile tasting. I sorta like fish sticks so sue me . to each his own.

Not so original. Carls Junior's fish tacos are just their breaded fish stuck into a taco along with some other stuff.

I think with the right amount of condiments and lots of lettuce and tarter sauce it could be OK. I like fish sticks but I would imagine there would too much breading with the shell and the breading I think though with a lot of lettuce, tomatoes, and tarter sauce that it might be OK, maybe some cheese too, but not with any of the flavors that tacos normally have that would be gross. I think they are just trying to find new ways to market their product.

Yeek no I cannot imagine tortilla and fish for some reason. Especially the toppings that go with them. Good thing I am allergic to fish as a whole as that is not something I would appeal to me at all.
Seems like restaurants/fast food places today are creating so many odd menus to attract more customers. Silly then as perhaps first timers may try them then later decide, not to return.
