I used to do these things when I was young & silly, but haven't done them for quite some time now. I guess the key motivating factor is that it upsets those who care about your safety & welbeing, so for peace of mind, you just comply with their wishes. It saves you money too. When you're by yourself with no other responsibilities, you can do as you wish, to a greater extent, but when you're with someone who is directly affected by your careless actions, you had better make sure you do the right thing as much as possible. If the phone rings, don't answer it, or program it with a long ring tone so you can pull over & answer it. And so what if it takes seven seconds longer to arrive at your destination by obeying speed limits? Does it really matter that much anyway? People should think more about driving smarter instead of driving faster. It contributes to road rage & a lot of unnecessary pressures on yourself.
What inspired you to post this discussion? Have you recently or frequently been in trouble with the law for these offenses?

No, yes, and yes. I do not make a habit of texting while driving, and never on the highway. I usually won't even answer my phone when it rings and I am driving...just being honest.
