My almost 5 year old son, has been very curious that I don't have a "wiener" he keeps askin to see, and I don't want to show him because it is very inappropriate, but he is soo curious! I know it is normal behavior for kids at this age, I am not worried about that, but i do feel bad he has these quesion's and curiosity but i am unable to answer him completely! So i would like to know if any one else has encounter this issue, and if there is any advise!

I too don't know the correct meaning of wiener? What does it means? Is it offensive?

I respect your comment, but in my opinion he has a valid question, which I must answer.I keep it simple and answer the question. Short and to the point.

Children always keep curious on their ages. You should meet his curioustiy if he put forward any questions. questions appropriate or inappropriate are not question. Question is you should know how to answer his question.

Hi. lvmybz. You will just have to tell him that you don't want to show him your private parts. You want him to wait until he is older enough to know about these type of things. My son asks me about his private parts and why he has certain things on it. In a mommy voice, I tell him that these are his private areas and it is personal. Your son is just curious and I am sure that you will tell him the truth once he gets older enough to know.

Yes, explaining to him about the difference between man and woman or boy and girl is a good idea. SHOWING him, however, is entirely inappropriate. You could try to explain to him that showing your 'thing' would be inappropriate behaviour, but at that age, I'm not sure if he will really understand it. Instead, you could show him a picture of a boy and a girl and point out the differences, in my opinion.

Maybe just be frank with him.Just tell that only a male have a wiener and woman don't have it. I have see the same things happen as well, but usually they will ask why their little sister don't have it. And most of the parents will just tell why like what I said just now. Sooner or later he will understand it.

Thank you for your response! I do tell him that boys have different parts then girls! And I pretty much leave it at that. Of course the questions keep coming. Like " how do you go pee mommy" But like you said one day we will understand.

You may want to use this as a time to teach about modesty, and self protection. Your body belongs to you, his belongs to him and he should not show his body just because someone asks, even someone he knows. I would talk with the doctor about it, and just be very matter of fact with your son. Possibly some anatomically correct dolls would help with his curiosity.

I don't think it is inappropriate to show your son your "thing". Just like you said, he is just curious, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I have a 5 yo son myself and we sometimes take a shower together, and sometimes with his mom too.

Hi lvmybz, I've encountered this before. I've got a son that's 8 years old now and 4 years back he asked about, what a wiener was. It was very troublesome at the start but after some days of deep thought i decided him to tell that he has his own wiener. He wasn't scared or frustrated at all, just happy that i told him. Some tips that i could give you would be: 1. You must know for sure that he really wants to see a "Wiener". 2. Overthink it for some days, then decide. 3. If he gets scared, tell him that it is a very normal thing for men to have a "Wiener" Well good luck!
