Recipes that are not recipes

So I get this fabulous idea for a new soup. For those who do not know, I sell soup and have a soup blog, always looking for new recipes. So I got thinkin, chicken cordon bleu soup. mmmm, I mentioned it to a few customers and they love the idea. So when I want to try something new, I will look up recipes, read a lot of them, then make my own. the very first one I open, the very first thing it says to do, is open a can of cream of chicken soup. WTF? If I wanted a can of soup, I wouldnt be looking for the recipe. I realize some people like the quick and easy way, but come on... Do you ever find that stupid stuff like this? By the way, I found some and know what I will do. Keep an eye on my blog for the recipe! and yes my recipes are harder, usually no cans to open

I mske the majority of my meals from scratch. If a recipe calls for'cream of anything soup, I make the soup from scratch. I keep the pantry well stocked with supplies so I don't have to depend on the over-salted, bland-tasting prepared items. I have gone to different sites to find the recipes call for the base to be a can of this or a package of that. I don't like that kind of directions and just refuse to buy them.

I agree yoyo. My recipes are bad in a different way. I assume one knows how to cook.... clearly that is too much for people these days. My hat is off to you for preparing good wholesome foods.

Cream of chicken soup? That would be different for me, since most of the time I open cream of mushroom soup. Ok, I'll keep an eye on your blog for your newest creation...I bet it's wonderful!

Are you still thinking about opening a little cafe/restaurant? Maybe keep it open only from breakfast to about 2. I know the economy is still shaky, the licensing/inspections could be a pain in the butt, hiring staff is a pain in the butt, but... You could have a limited menu... I still think it would go over, selling homemade specialty soups (and maybe sandwiches/desserts). Of course, then you wouldn't have time to work at the bar. Still considering?

I think when someone posts a recipe they should specify if it's from scratch or not. Some ppl like shortcuts and some don't. I'm from both sides...it depends on my mood and how much time I have. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I agree, I was just ranting, it really isnt that big of a deal. I found it very annoying at the time, now I just think it is funny.

I don't really go for quick fix and prefer original recipes where the ingredients are individually specified. Now we have ready made cakes mixtures that come in packets. All one need to do is to pour the packet of mixed flour in a mixture of eggs and butter and is ready to be baked in the oven. So we can have instant cake right away. This is not real cake to me. I like the conventional way of making cakes where I can weigh the ingredients to suit my likings.

I agree, the cake mixes are handy in a hurry but there is nothing like "real" food!

yea, that's making ubersoup the lazy way. although part of it is a lot of people now have no clue how to make anything from scratch, even with recipes. my own brother admitted he'd probably starve if i didn't cook.either that,or he'd be eating a ton of junk food.

I can go you one better. I found exactly the same instruction, once...in a cookbook that was supposed to be recipes all "made from scratch!" Needless to say, I sent that book to file 13! I have my grandmother's cookbook now, & if I want something truly made from scratch, that's where I turn! It has one drawback, however: there is not one recipe for chocolate cake! I discovered that many cookbooks lack that! This puzzles me no end! How can such a common item be so hard to find?? Maggiepie “Hope is a great breakfast, but a poor supper.” ~ Sir Frances Beacon

I love soup and I make my own. But sometimes it is just easyer to open a can and call it a night. If I had more then my roommate and me I would make more. But I have all kinds of stuff in the frezer already so no room. But your soup sounds like it will be really good. Your friend Karen
