So the Australian Government has broken another promise...I think election promises made by politicians should be a form of contract and if broken like the current Australian Government has done, it should be considered as contract broken, step aside another election, They do it all the time, get in by a massive promise then break it once they are in...

That happens here all the time. They make lots of serious promises, the ones they know that will help them win the election then when they win they do not do as they said they would. They turn completely around or make some lame excuse and do something else. I agree with you if they do not do as promised they should have to be made to step done. There should not have to be anything done by the people to get them out or anything else to get them out but there should be a written rule that they have to leave if they break any promises. It would have to be brought to their attention by someone, even the press or anyone and proven but then they would have to step down!!!

Elected officials can rarely do anything about seeing through on their promises. What they can do is offer a solution and other branches of the government have to vote on that. For instance the president's health reform idea had to be voted on by the senate or congress or whichever (sorry I'm not totally up to speed on political stuff, LOL) and they said no to it.. so even though during election he promised a major reform in our health care system, there's really nothing he can do if the senate or congress vote no on the bills he tries to pass. You can't always hold one politician responsible for not following through on what they say they will.
Of course it depends on the promise. I'm sure Elliot Spitzer promised not to use the tax payer's money to buy hookers out of state.. that is something that can be held against him.. of course that did end up with him being removed from office and then New Yorkers were stuck with David Patterson until this past January when Andrew Cuomo took office..

Broken political promises? That's nothing new. LOL Isn't politics the world's oldest profession, and isn't promise-breaking their main objective? LOL All politicians feed off of HUMAN HOPE, get us to believe in them, we all hope this time will be different, then they turn around and screw up. Yep, world's oldest profession.

It's a common scenario here in India. Now people have stopped expecting that politicians will fulfill their promises.Nowadays politicians bribe people by giving free bikes, money for vote and people take that as they know whoever will get voted would be a another corrupt politician who will just give big fake promises.

lilac-
I've been following through a friend of mine the things going on there and I'm in agreement. I feel so much for y'all as we're having very much the same problem here in the US. I'm not sure what the best solution is though other then solidarity.

Sounds just like our politicians here in the United States. The definition for politician should be, "Can not be trusted." They always make promises they can't possibly keep. I feel sorry for those that vote for them based on promises they have made that they will never fulfill. It would be nice if we could hold them accountable for their promises if elected.

I am not up to date with the news this week. What has Julia done now?
I do agree with what you are saying. If election promises were legally binding contracts, then maybe the world would be a better place. What gets me too a lot of the time is when the opposition opposes something just because they are the opposition. I am sure that deep down they might actually agree with the government with some issues, but they have to kick up a fuss and find a way to stop what they are proposing which causes stress and time/money wasting.

I have always thought that all politicians tell the truth until they get into office. Then its always downhill. Well some politicians do. Really, when you think about it, most politicians are telling the truth, until they open their mouth and begin giving a speech. There are a lot of liars in the world to begin with and sadly many of them have found their way in politics.
These days, I don't really pay much attention to the promises politicians make. I know that the chances that they are actually going to follow through on those promises, are rather slim. Therefore, I'm going to really just take a look at the promises that they are going to make and until they actually follow through with them, I'm just going to smile and just wait to see if they are going to follow through or they are just another politician.

YEs, that's why I don't really believe anything that most politicians say and promise. Especially if the politician is said and proved to be corrupt- I can't believe how people still voe for them because they are paid money. It's the town's future that they are selling.

politicians are the biggest backsteppers.at the time of election they give somany promises and once the election has gone and every promise gone into dustbin.after election they just work for themselves and forget the public.
