I have a canon 550D and it seems not bad.BUT its image quality is not as good as Pentax-kx and more expensive than Pentax.

Oh actually i am planning to buy also for my daughter. Camera is her request gift when she graduated next year in college. You know my daughter is fond of taking pictures thru her cellphone. I wish to get suggestions here on what camera brand is most appropriate.

It will take a year before my daughter will graduate from college, i suppose by that time i have enough money to buy one.

Oh that is so cool. I don't think my parents will be buying me a camera because i lost one couple of months ago, and it was bought by them. I know, i feel so bad but i tried searching a lot for it but didn't find it :(
Anyway i hope you get the perfect camera for your daughter. Have a good day.

If you already have an old fashioned SLR with lenses, then but a DSLR that can use the lenses that you already have. That way you can save on the lenses.

I am using Nikon D90 now, which is really a good choice for a DSLR.
Of course there are still many other good DSLRs, depending on how much money you will spend.
You will get some great photography experience with a DSLR. Good for you.

Since you are still a student, I think Nikon D3000 is okay. D90 is much more experience than D3000.
There are also many new types from which you can choose. Just pay attention~

I think Canon is a good option for DSLR camera. Most of the camera retailer will recommended Canon. There also people who have been in photography for a long time love Canon as well. The advantages of Canon is you can use the same lense for all of the Canon DSLR camera no matter what model it is, high end or low end, they all can use the same lens.
Unlike other brands, whenever you want to change camera, there is a possibility you have to buy new lense because the new camera might not supported the lense you use for you old camera.
As far as quality concern, I think everybody have their own liking and opinion. Maybe you can see sample of the certain camera model before buying new camera.

I have a canon powershot. No complaints and my daughter has a Lumix, also no complaints. Photos come out gorgeous. It all depends on what you want to use the camera for. If you just want to take photos fast, then a point and shoot will do fine. If you want to dabble with the manual controls and take photography seriously, then a dslr is an advantage. I am partial to canon :)
