What made you think of this? Too much time on your hands or were you wondering when your goldfish would ask for a drink?

I'd say that pondering the universe is one of the best ways to spend time.

Well, apparently you've already been answered in that the fresh water fish absorb and the salt water fish do drink. Some of these myLot questions can be rather funny, can't they? Wonder what even made you think of this one? Why would it be offensive?

Yes, fish do drink water. They can not survive without drinking water. This is because their body system is built that way to enable me maintain a better temperature with the surroundings. In the marine world, there are even fishes that feeds on other fish. They kills other fish eat it and then drink water. The marine environment as all the kind of things that we often see in the land environment.

Freshwater fish absorb water through their skin and gills, but saltwater fish actually do drink it. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Do_fish_drink_water

I guess so. But when the fish breathing with its mouth, does it also drinking the water too. I am just curious on this one too. Would the fish drank too much water every time it opens its mouth? I have to hear it from the expert.

Yes,they do.They need H2O as much as any of us.Freshwater fish don't actively drink water, but they do of course absorb water through their skin and gills.Salt water fish actually take in water through their mouths which is something closer to what you'd think of as drinking.

In freshwater fish, their salt concentration is higher then that of the surrounding water, and as osmosis dictases they absorb water through their highly permeable skin.
