Do you have to sing at work?!

Okay this is a rant. I have this office worker who is seating just across from me. I don't know her because we are working on a separate account. It seems she is sleepy, because it is past lunch time and it is usually the time you get so sleepy. So she had this music on her desktop and started singing along with it. I must admit I like the songs she is playing, but I really get distracted with the "noise" she is making I couldn't concentrate on my Mylotting!
Are there things your office mates do that sometimes irritate you?

Haha! That's terrible. I used to have an office mate who sings his heart out like he's a rockstar or something while at work but the thing is he is often out of tune. What I did then is I put my headset on me at the start of work until I finish my job and that gave me some quiet time and peace of mind.

I used to play music as well at the office. But I use an earphone and I sometimes also sing along with it but not to the point of staging a concert at my office! What I did, I just walked out of the room and had a break. Fortunately, she stopped singing when I came back.

Haha! That's cool! I still use my earphones when I listen to my music thus keeping any noise out especially coming from him. Sometimes, I feel like he knew I did it on purpose. That every time he started singing, I would get my headset and shut him his voice out.

hahaha! You are sure giving him the signal that you don't want to be bothered by his voice.

I just hope that she sang well enough to please me! lol!
Yeah, I really dont mind other people playing songs from the laptops and all, but it would be best for them to just use a earphone and listen to their stuff alone. Some are so insensible and does not think about the people around them.
It would be good if you are not really busy, but hey if you have your hands (and head) full, not a perfect timing!

Yeah I was busy having my hands (and head) full at Mylot! I can't concentrate!
Oh she can carry a tune well, but it was just so loud for me and 3 songs non-stop?!
I just can't stand it and left my cubicle to have a break. Fortunately, she stopped when I came back. Thank God! I totally would have gone crazy!
I really don't have any intention of starting a topic on the last workday because I hardly can respond to anyone on weekends. No laptop and internet at home. Which I think is good for me because I really can spend quality time with my son without the distractions of internet at home. But I just need to express my rant. And thank God for Mylot!

Just saw this now I've been away for quite a long time. Thanks for the best response. I really enjoyed reading your response. True, during weekends, I really try not to go online and spend some quality time w/ family as I am regularly working M-F too. :)

Yeah, I know sometimes we use music to deal with stress at work.
I am not so easily irritated. She just got to my nerves, unfortunately.

Hahaha! So you are suggesting we make a good number together?
I heard she was also dancing while singing at that time. Couldn't see her though since my back was on her. I think your suggestion would really work on her. But I really don't like irritating others as well. Maybe she was just so happy, since that was a Friday. Maybe, she's just excited for the weekend.

HEHE i'm actually pretty similar to your colleague. You see i love singing and will sing to any song that's on lol. Actually most of my friends are that way. If we aren't gossiping or laughing, we're definitely humming our favorite songs lol.

I think that would be okay if you are not sharing the workplace with other people you don't work with. I think we are more understanding if the person is someone we know. In fact I have a colleague who do that, but I'm amazed I can tolerate it because he is just so lovable. In fact, I already know what are the songs he would play since he usually play it all the time.

I'm actually one of those people who can't work well without music. Whenever i'm working there has to be music playing and most of the time i can't help but to sing along with it. I believe it helps remove stress, well, for me..lol. Just put earphones or something to lessen the noise or if you can try to talk to her about it, goodluck.. :)

Hi there! Welcome to Mylot!
Yeah you're right. Some people use music to deal with stress at work.
I use to do that to at wotk, until I got hooked at Mylot.
I guess she wouldn't be here for long, so I might just be more understandable.

I think no matter where you work there will always be people that will irritate you, and sometimes the more they know they do the worse they will try to irritate you even more. When it comes to singing, it usually does not bother me if they are a Good singer and they are not doing it really loud. But if someone is off key, or distracting I or someone else will usually say something for sure.

Hello there Sweet_pea. :) Wow, I think your officemate was kind of cool. Even though she knew that there were some other people in the office the time she sang before, she still did it so she won't feel sleepy. She just wanted to make herself feel awakened that time. It was just a bit bad because you were a bit distracted in myLotting because of her voice.
At times, I also get distracted and irritated when I'm already sitting in front of my computer and teaching but some of my colleagues would sometimes tell some stories to each other and their voices would get louder and louder. Sometimes, they would even laugh so loudly. I think my students could hear them and I could even hear them clearly too while I'm wearing my headset. I'm also a bit distracted when they would ask me some questions while I'm already talking with my students. It could really interrupt my teaching and my student would also notice that I'm talking with someone else. I just hope that they would also consider their co-workers so there would really be a good working environment at all times. I think those are the only things that irritate me at times while I'm at work. Happy myLotting. :)

There's this girl beside my cubicle who sings, too. But not all the time. And the people here say, "Oh, it's the time of that month". They think there are days of the month she is a loony. Because those are the days she sings. It doesn't annoy me because I'm amused as the rest of them. Other than that, the people here at the office are pleasant to work with.

They are a small group of contractors. They sometimes help out the account that requested them. They have just occupied the seats opposite the place where we seat.
So what I did, I just went down stairs and buy me something to munch while I Mylot. God, I can't stand the 3 songs that she sang. She even danced said my team mates. I didn't see it because my back is on her. Glad when I came back, she stopped singing and has toned down the volume of her music.
I remember we got escalated because somebody complained to our Manager that our boys were so rowdy. You know some men when they talk, they often curse. I guess somebody got irritated.

lol and the worse part is she probably dose not have the voice for singing. I get annoyed mostly by the numerous interruptions especially when I am pressed for time.

Oh she can carry a tune well. She was so into it, that my co-workers say she was also dancing while singing. Hadn't seen her do it because my back is on her.
I suddenly had the urge to leave my cubicle and go on a binge because she is stressing me out with her singing! I both some junkies, my comfort food, which I haven't eaten for a while now. Thanks to her! Glad she stopped singing when I came back.

I think, i am like your office mate. I would sing along also with the music i am playing on my laptop.
Now, i know i might be irritating my 4 other office mates here in our department's room. I will now just dance along in my seat while mylotting also.

Hahaha I also used to sing in my office and I really love songs. It relaxes my mind and my body that helps me to do my work easily. But I make sure that nobody will be distracted by my singing, I don't sing when I know that everybody is working too hard or they are rushing to finish their work and needs concentration because I know I'm not a good singer! He he he every time I sing They Laughs at me and they wil sing with me also because they also love the songs i'm singing. You better put a earphone in your ear, or you can tell them that sorry but you are loosing your concentration when she sings. I know she will understand.

Hi Thereza! I know some people turn to music to relieve stress at work. I am no exemption. But I try to put on my earphones so as not to distract others. Some people may not appreciate what you are doing. Others may find it funny, others may find it just irritating. I think I would just be more understandable.

Hi Accelerator! Welcome to Mylot!
I also don't easily get irritated. It is just this one time. I guess there is a first for everything. I used to play music at the office but with earphones. I really don't like to irritate others as well.

At first, I don't. But lately, I do. The reason, people have their own distinct personality that we can not change. But then, if the situation is way beyond the line of creating a distraction, the next move is to talk openly with them.
