The picked up money

China
March 5, 2011 2:07am CST
I'm not young now,all those past years I rarely picked up money that someone left. When I was a pupil,I picked up just 0.20 yuan(rmb),I was almost overpleased, then bought two dried persimmons. When I was in highschool, some day I went to the bank to get some money. At the doorway of the bank I picked up 5 yuan, but I didn't put it into my pocket,I handed it in to the bank cashier!I was still such childish?Haha... What about you?Share your experences.

I've found five dollars before. My ex used to find $20 on the street quite often.

You don't have to hope lol, if you find money on the ground it's yours. It's not stealing, so you don't have to feel bad. As long as the money you found isn't in the thousands or more your good. If it's that much then you should let the cops know.

My daughter has found $10 in a parkinglot just getting out of the car. She found $20 right outside our door once too. She found a thrown away lotter ticket with a $1. She is very lucky finding money all the time. Me? I never find money. But, once years back when I first had my checking account the bank made a $100 mistake and told me that if the error wasn't found in so many days I could have the money. They didn't and I had the extra in my account. My word against theirs. Hehe

LOL!This reminds me of what happened to my son last week. My cousin owned a restaurant where you can also have fish spa there while waiting for your food. My son would frequently go there for a fish spa and last week he found $3. He kept it for himself and he was very happy to have found such money. Then yesterday he told me he would go there again coz he might find a few more bucks again. Such innocence of a child! When i was a kid, when i found a penny i would never spend it at all. I called it my lucky penny and would bring it everywhere. Long time ago i can buy candies with just a penny but nowadays, it's not worth anything here at all.

There's no doubt that most of the grown-ups had the similar picking-up money experence, that's interesting and worth recalling.

I used to find coins on the street frequently, but now, all I find are pennies. Most people figure that they are now worth picking up. A penny is .01 of a dollar. I read somewhere that it costs the government more to mint pennies than they are worth. I still pick them up.

Yes,it's a good habit to pick up all the dropped coins or pennies,we must love our money, though they are worth less. And it's not easy to mint all the coins and pennies, either.

We are just the same. When i'm young, i would use the picked up money to buy stuffs because that's what my mom taught me, don't keep any of those money as they might be 'cursed' or have spell casted on them. I was actually foolish enough to believe in here. When i got older, i'm still doing the same, only difference is that i'm no longer picking up coins as they can't buy me anything. I will only pick up notes of at least $10, to buy cigrattes for my brother. ANything more than that, i will leave it lying on the streets.

Hehe, the dropped money might be "cursed",I've heard of that, but sometimes I just really forgot it.Good luck!

I do the same thing actually. I give it if it is near someone. But if it is found in the middle of the street, then i would give it to my pocket.LOL...

Only my daughter who came across with a plastic bag containing some papers early in the morning when she was going to school next to the shopping mall. No one on the front of her except the other kids that were following to school. She came home and gave the plastic bag to me and it contained the sum of 80ZAR inside and I gave her the half of that amount so that she can buy something that will remind of that particular day.

That must be one of the most meaningful things when she reminds of all the childhood things later as a grown-up.Have fun!

If it's just some penny then of course I'll keep it knowing that the owner won't mind looking for it anymore but if some huge amount is already involved then I would hand it over to the authorities. But again say for example some hundred pesos and no one is looking for it then thats's where I apply "finders keepers".
• China
6 Mar 11
Hehe, what you are going to do all depends on how much the picked up money is?That's quite right,I think.
@sais06 (1284)

Yes it depends on the amount and also on the situation. Even though it's just a small amount but if I see somebody looking got it then I'll hand it over but I will not ask anybody about some lost money because everybody will just claim that it was theirs.

In element school, the teacher always taught us,when you picked up money, you should gave it to the police. But as far as I know, amlost 98% people, when they picked up money, they will use them to buy something,or became their own money(also include me).I think this is the normal phenomenon.Because I believe that a lot of people in front of money lost reason.Money is too "attractive"... Good luck, have a nice day~~

I've never had any luck, picking up money people accidentally left. A couple of dollars here and there, but nothing too major that would make me overjoyed :D. Although one of my relative's once managed to find a 100 dollars in a shopping centre :)

Oh that reminds me of a time two years ago... when my backpack was open and a 20dollar bill fell out... then the kid next to me found 20dollars and err... it just know how immature freshman are and they'll think you're lying since it involves money. So lucky him that I allowed him to keep it without saying anything. :x

i had experienced picking up money when i looked down. it's usually cents and i got a five hundred bill once. i buy that big amount for groceries and share food to every kid that passed by our house gate,it's a kind of saying thank you to the owner.L.O.L. i mean to the blessing

That must be the reward from the God,so you shared it with all the kids who passed by your doorway.Another chance will come to you soon.Have a nice day!

From young we were told to put coins in our piggy banks. We were competing among ourselves to be the first to fill up our piggy bank as my father promised to give rewards if we managed to get it full before Christmas. I am therefore trained to walk with my eyes focused to the ground in case I find dropped coins. If I find coins on the roads or anywhere I quickly picked them up and rush to deposit in my piggy bank.

I can see you've been very smart since you were young. You put the picked coins into your piggy bank to expect your father rewards!hehe

If there is money on the ground I pick it up. People seem to always throw away pennies, I pick them up and put them in my change bottle. Twice I turned my pennies in and got over $20 each time.

I never find any money. Not even coins. Even as a child, I don't remember finding any money. But I remember losing. Sometimes change just falls from my pockets and there's almost always an old lady to point it out to me :).

When I was 8 I found a 50 peso-bill outside our house. I took it and bought lots of candies. It turned out that it was my big brother's hard-earned money from his allowance, I was really sorry about it. Now I'm already a teacher, I usually leave coins on my table or on my chair and see if the children will do the same and keep the money rather than return it. I'm so delighted that each time I intentionally do it it is always returned. :)

You are so smart. You could eat candies but you are stopping your pupils from getting sweets with picked up coins, right?hehe
