What do you consider to be a comfort food?

At different times I want different things. I tend to like creamy rich things. Lately though, I am wanting whole wheat toast with butter and honey. Another really yummy thing that I crave sometimes is a microwaved potato, or sweet potato, with butter. Do you notice, I like butter? I hope I have not made you too hungry. I just finished my toast with butter and honey.

My comfort foods are things like (chicken or turkey) meatloaf, veggie loaf, pizza, tacos, Indian cuisine (just about anything), macaroni and cheese, and, of course, Ben and Jerry's ice cream. Oh, and then there's mashed potatoes and gravy; can't forget that. Oh, and stuffing with gravy. And chocolate cake...
Okay, I think that I need to go eat something. I've found my appetite, which seemed to have abandoned me earlier.

As hot as it is here, only the Ice cream seemed tempting, until you got to mashed potatoes and gravy, that sounded really good. This evening I had a small bowl of corn dip, or corn relish, or as one person calls it, ugly dip. It is good, cold, and satisfying.

Ooh... corn relish. I haven't had that in a long while. I think that's probably one of those foods that would horrify my boyfriend.

Butter is the best, but you forgot, hot buttered popcorn... I also love chocolate as a comfort food, especially if I am upset or anxious...

Or mix the chocolate with the popcorn. That is my favorite snack when watching a movie, M&M's and popcorn, yum... Now I am craving...

I did good at Thanksgiving, but gained at Christmas and I cannot get it to go away. You must be eating pretty healthy if you do not crave. Good job.

The first thing I think of when thinking of comfort food is a big pot of chicken noodle soup. Also getting my vote would be chicken 'n dumplings, homemade soup, potato salad, brownies, mashed potatoes and a big pasta salad. There are others which remain my mainstays. It doesn't take much to 'comfort' me. I can't seem to cook these things in small amounts as I always make enough to last for a few days. That way I don't have to cook as often. I just had a bowl of homemade beef vegetable soup and it's always better as leftovers.

I think I will be right over for soup. I like pasta salads we do not do pasta here, except for my homemade lasagna. The other noodles do not seem to agree with hubby. I love my brownie recipe as well. And you know, chocolate is good for you.

It depends on what I am craving. I notice you like butter. I love freshly baked bread of a really good wheat bread with the buds of wheat in it and then some real butter on it. Or I go for chocolate nutella on a vanilla cookie or something light. Or I like fruit juice. Or even cinnamon rolls! Now there is my all time favorite! Yum!!

My comfort food would have to be chocolates, cakes and fries. My comfort drink would have to be coffee especially coffee from Starbucks. I have a sweet tooth and I just can't resist chocolates especially if they were given as gifts. I know they're unhealthy but I try not to indulge with so much comfort food to avoid gaining extra weight.

I have gained way too much weight this year. I deliberately avoided a gift box of chocolates this year, because I will try to finish it off all by myself.

Don't you folks know that Milk Chocolate is HEALTH FOOD? Think about it. Chocolate comes from a bean and beans are vegetables and vegetables are healthy for you. Milk Chocolate is made from MILK which we all know supplies our bones with CALCIUM. Calcium is good for you. Everyone needs it so they can have strong bones. If we didn't have strong bones we would have soft bones which means that we could not walk because our bones would be soft, like a sponge. So we should all eat chocolate whenever we get the opportunity. RIGHT?

Popcorn is good for you, and has very few calories until you put the oil and salt on it. It sounds good to me tonight too. Yummmy.

I have certain comfort meals that I love. My first choice would be meatloaf with homemade mac & cheese ( not baked) stewed tomatoes on the side & corn on the cob.
my second choice is lasagna with lots of ricotta & mozzerella cheese, with hot sausage, hamburg, peppers, mushroom and onions, I love an action packed sauce.

Soup or stew, absolutely those two. When I'm coming in from out in the cold, soup or stew. When I'm tired and weiry, soup or stew. When everything goes wrong, soup or stew.
I've been having lots of toast, butter and honey latelu, too. Just ran out of honey. It's my allergy fighing, get up and go superhero breakfast. Either that or oatmeal because oatmeal lasts a long long time and then of course there are my egg breakfasts. My top 3!

I like oatmeal. I like various add ins as well. Dried fruit, nuts, molasses, pumpkin or peanut butter. Not all of these at one time, though. I have made a lot more home made soups this last year.

Well, what I consider comfort food is pizza. I love pizza and is crazy over it. There are even times that I make my own pizza. I buy a bread and pizza sauce, from there, I get to choose the toppings that I like on top. Well, maybe this craving for me was influence by my childhood days. As you can see, our family can rarely buy a pizza when I was young since its quite expensive.

I have quite a few comfort foods hidden away in my brain. it usually depends on my mood and situation as to which one will appeal to me at any given time. For the most part, chocolate usually reigns supreme with me in comfort foods!

Gee I didn't have dinner yet, I think I'll go downstairs now to eat.. err okay I'll finish with this discussion first. Haha. I like toast a lot too! What I usually eat is only just plain toast though, but yeah butter is good. I love eating ice cream, usually pistachio, vanilla, or corn ice cream. I love junk foods a lot, I could go on days eating just that. And of course other foods also that I can't remember. Good day!

It depends on the mood, actually, but most often I go for sweet and/or salty food. At the top of the list is chocolates! Always a pick-me-upper. Sometimes, too, I long for food from home - food I ate when I was a kid.

HOME-MADE soup! Spring, summer, winter, Fall...just a hearty soup, of any kind, but more the creamy soups in winter, like fresh Clam Chowder...Bean/Ham, Borscht, and I always have containers of it in the Freezer. BUT, it is most enjoyed with a slice of fresh bread...and BUTTER! I actually think, the truth may be, it is the butter, too...and I just justify it by having healthy soup. Have never been much of a "snacky" food person, but will have a bowl of soup...anytime! And I really have NOT found a canned soup, packaged soup that I like, and I would be that is all in my head, too!
Hope you had a great weekend. We had some nice sun here yesterday, only about 45 degrees, but it has been cold enough for long enough..that temp almost seemed balmy! Take care..and Cheers!

We make a good butternut squash soup with chestnuts in it. I love to serve good bread with my homemade soups. We will have beans and ham and cornbread tonight, if the beans get done. Pretty sure they will.

AH...am just conjuring that wonderful food up in my mind, and can't remember the last time I had some good cornbread! I hate to admit it, I have never cooked with Chestnuts...and they sound wonderful, so does the Squash soup. We do have chestnuts that grow here, but they are of the non-productive species called horsechestnuts, pretty trees..but that's about it! Must really put chestnuts on my "bucket list!" do you cook with them often..and what is the flavour similar too..if anything? Thanks..GG!

Take my word for this but, you do not want to eat horse chestnuts, they are NASTY. If you cannot get the Chinese chestnuts you can substitute pistachios instead. I cannot think of anything else quite like Chestnuts.

I like butter, too, but my favorite comfort food is macaroni and cheese. No, not that stuff in the box! Real macaroni and cheese, baked in the oven.
The whole grain toast dripping with butter is good with melted peanut butter and honey. I also like a glass of ice cold milk with molasses in it.
Also a poached egg on toast (Thank you Epicurus)'
Come to think of it, I have a LOT of favorites.
But check this out. You have not made me hungry because I just had a slice of my homemade pumpkin pie with ice cream on top. This was from my Halloween pumpkin which I had not gotten a chance to "recycle" for Thanksgiving...or Christmas. From scratch pumpkin pie is SO good. I saved the seeds, too.

I still have two butternut squash and my giant white pumpkin to cook up. I hope the pumpkin is tasty. We have made soup out of our squash all winter. With chestnuts in it. The pumpkin is so satisfying too. I like to sweeten my pumpkin pie with molasses.

I am the same but am trying to curb my excesses. I love anything that contains fat. Fat makes everything taste good! Love it!But am now trying to go down a dress size befoe my daughter's wedding in July. I have reduced two dress sizes since last year so I would be happy to go down a further size before her big day. Today was my first day back to exercising. Oh, it is hard to be good!

It is really hard to be good. I would like to lose a size or two this month, but it probably will not happen. For me it is easier to avoid fat when the weather gets warmer. I know, you guys have warm weather all of the time.

I am not familiar with curd rice, but the soup and rice sound good. Eating with the family is very important and comfortable. My son eats with my husband and I, and we wait and are courteous to each other. That is a comfort meal as well.

Oh darn now I am hungry.
I can eat and when I am hungry I really have to or I get light headed. Because of my life changed healthy eating habits, I tend to find a lot of comfort in Special K cereal.
Oh don't get me wrong the wonderful steak and whipped mash potatoes for dinner were absolutely yummy. But now it is almost 10pm here and if I get the urge to eat I tend to run for a bowl of Special K cereal with milk. Something I do often.
As for butter, gosh I go through periods where I have to have toast just because the butter is staring at me.

Exactly. I tried cutting back on butter at the first of the year, and I have done pretty well, but today I want it. The weather is turning cold and we may have snow for part of this week. I think that is why I want hot things with butter. Cheerios of all kinds are the cereals for me. Or rather, regular, honey nut, or multigrain cheerios. The chocolate, banana, apple, etc. just are not for me.
