Well, i already experience it before but it their are days where I feel relax and just could sleep easily or could not sleep. They would just pass away just like what I do all the advices about getting a good sleep. But they never work for me at all. When you feel being worry or have a lot of stress. it affect the mind and body. if the other lack coordination it result to sleep deprivation. I already try some tricks and it work or it fail me. I think the best way is to avoid the person or things which upset you. if you could not avoid them at all. then you need to learn to relax your body and mind, Such learn to have a daily routine of exercise even 5 minutes a day, meditation or yoga at the same time avoid drinking too much coffee, cola and late parties. I do hope it works for you.

Try not to think of anything. I too have difficulties lately sleeping at night and I do mostly everything from listening to the music to counting from 1 to any number or read and even write sometimes but it doesn't work. What I do is just close my eyes and think of nothing at all. Think of blankness and darkness, it helps for me.

I would suggest you maintain yourself quite busy during the day time which involves physical activity like work, walking and or exercising. Anything that will exert some energy and eat well balanced meals during the deal.
At night this will spark up some sleepy time and it will become a regular routine for you.
Best of luck and please try and get some rest!

I sympathys. I love my sleep. But, many times I too am awake at night. The obvious cause is severe anxiety about your current problems. You insist on finding the solution before you will allow yourself to drift into sleep.
As for solutions, if you can do it, meditation is a powerful tool. If that doesn't help me, I will get up and either sit in my armchair until I relax enough to drift off, or go back to my computer to play more games.
I work for a few hours in the mornings. When I am working, I have to get up at 6am. If my efforts at sleep have failed, it is ok for me to stay up for the rest of the night. I only work 2 hours. After work, I have my breakfast. At that point, I will finally be able to fall asleep. And, I can stay in bed for as long as I like.

There are lots of temporary cures like warm milk as the above poster mentioned but I've found that lifestyle changes are needed to fully defeat insomnia. So you usually need to fight insomnia two ways, with temporary cures and lifestyle changes. Temporary cures are things like drinking something warm to relax you and quieting your mind and listening to the sound of your own breathing. Lifestyle changes are things like eating healthy and exercising more during the day (Oh yeah... eat right and exercise applies EVERYWHERE when it comes to your health), having a set bedtime routine where you spend at least an hour winding down, and regulating your sleep cycle so you're getting up and going to bed at relatively the same times every day.
I wrote an article about it on Helium here: http://www.helium.com/items/2093950-how-to-defeat-insomnia

Warm milk. Tylenol Pm if you want to take meds. There are some herbals that may help you sleep too. Maybe a warm bath. Take care.
