I just saw on BBC that Japan has been hit by 8.9 magnitude Earthquake. The videos they are showing are just horrific. The actual water is on fire, eating up houses!!! Let us all pray for the people who are affected by this disaster. When you hear news like this, how does it make you feel? Do share what you know about this disaster.

Oh my how scary and sad for them. I saw on BBC also earlier that this was happening and the graphic pictures were so frightening. I will definitely include them in my prayers and hope for recovery with the aftermath. It will be a long road ahead for survivors to deal with. Loss of loved ones and homes. When I hear news reporting s like this is makes really sad, but more so thankful for my life and also makes me take a step back from my daily whining abut bad happenings in my life. Somehow it reminds me of how blessed I have been and am.

The BBC is now saying that the quake will hit other places as well, such as Phillipines, Australia, Hawaii, etc. I just cannot imagine something like that happening. It is too sad. The whole city has been covered in tidal water. I just saw a video showing the wave moving and ravaging the city, and two persons just clinging onto a roof. Making me cry now. The advised that have been issued is that move to higher ground, as far away from the water as possible. The government is saying "Don't panic", oh well, not that I blame the government, but I am guessing it would be very hard not to panic in a situation like this.

Absolutely and I agree, I would be in a state of disarray trying to figure out how to maintain safety.

I probably would be too panic to do anything. Brrr...I hope I never have to face that kind of thing. Well, I also wish no one has to face that kind of thing.

That was very tragic. It makes me feel sad and worried that it might also happen in my country. We should all be prepared because we can't really tell when worst things happen. Let's pray for them.

It is indeed a sad day for Japan. Yes, I did saw the warnings for your country as well. I hope it will not happen. I will pray that it does not happen. Do take care, and be prepared. They are advising everyone to move to higher grounds. I hope you don't stay too near the ocean?

Hi zralte, I am shocked at this news... and it had to happen at a day when I was away from the house... I did miss out most of the news but never mind, I will catch up on the sites... and hope to get an idea. When I hear about such disasters, I start with finding out if my known people are okay or not... and also I start feeling insecure and then get upset because many are paying the prices for no faults of theirs... The Nature and our Planet have been facing the torture from many around and it is high time we thought about fixing the damages done already.

On BBC I found a video showing a whirlpool being formed nearby and that is more shocking for me. I am not having a great speed, the video is playing in bits and pieces but I do see a large whirlpool and there are two boats nearing to the Eye of this... Quite scary as I always have feared water

Hi thesids, I'm sure the news channel will keep repeating it over and over. It's so huge that they will not stop at just once. Thankfully, I don't know anyone who is in Japan, but I have some Japanese friends. I just hope their families and friends are not in the affected areas. I do feel a bit insecure about our Mother Earth too.

I saw the water moving inland and people clutching onto the roof. The airport of Sendai....well, the whole thing, makes me really sad today. I am quite scared of water too, as I cannot swim, but it's not a phobia as such.

I had been in a center of a killer earthquake before. I think one of the worst earthquakes to happen in the Philippines. I was just in primary school then. It was really a terrifying experience. I know Japan often experience earthquakes like this. In fact, their buildings are designed for instances like this. It is really sad, that no matter how you prepare for it, still nature can bring such great damage.

I do remember there's going to be hit by a freaking tsunami terrible thing by the days come by. it was mentioned in the news that the alert has come to level 2 and it's really something dangerous for people who are on the beach area and near water since they are likely get into this flood

Hi sweet_pea, please be on your guard. BBC is saying that Phillipines might be hit as well. This time, what shocked me is the wave bringing sea water inland. The water is moving fast ravaging everything in sight and it is still moving inland. I saw big big houses being carried along with debris of every kind.

I heard that too : I hope that we will not see another nuclear accident. A nuclear power station under waters can easily become a new Tchernobyl.

hi zralte Thats all we could talk about this morning over breakfasst. I feel so frightened and sad for those in the tsunami path., I know how scared I feel when we just have a 3.4 or 4 poing earthquake here in California. My prayers go out to those in Japan facing all this horror. We should all of us remember not to take mother Nature for granted. I read the Hawaii and our own California coastline are on watch for tsunami waves too. Really scary as you cannot fight Mother Nature.

Absolutely. My heart goes out to them. I think the whole Pacific Basin has been put on Tsunami watch. I did hear interesting stuff though. One person mentioned that it is best to leave all doors and windows opened, because if a house has been taken by the wave, you could get trapped inside, with the doors and windows jammed from the force. And that it is safer to go walking than in your car if the water force does carry you. I am so thankful that I am so far away from the sea. Another thing I cannot stop thinking about is the friends/relatives and families of the people in that area. Wanting to know how their loved ones are, but unable to contact them, not knowing the fate of their loved ones.

I honestly don't know what to say right now. I have been in contact with all my friends in Japan, thank god, but my heart goes out to all those who are affected and my thoughts are with Japan right now. I never understand why bad things like this happen...

Thank God your friends are alright. My Professor once joked that Natural Disasters are God's population and environmental control. I agree with that upto a point. That does not make it more bearable though, everytime something like this happened.

Hello Zralte, This is nature and something really this just affecting all of us. yes, i saw those water ways heading towards the farm fields. i think to most people out there think it's the END of the WORLD scenario, not just in Japan but in some parts of the world had been happening lately. News like this can really give shiver to your spine. for me, it's a wake up call to be good again.

It is a terrible news. I am watching it now on France24 relaying NHK -- English channel is available freely in streaming : mms://stream1.france24.yacast.net/f24_liveen --. I never saw a tsunami like this one and another one is expected soon. It is possibly the worst earthquake since centuries. I associate my prayers to yours and hope that our Japanese friends at myLot are safe.

My husband was watching the news and he came running to tell me. Saw it on BBC as well as CNN. This kind of thing are the moment one remembers forever, affected or not. I can still remember what I was doing when I came to know the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.
