Feeling Old

I recently had to re-learn walking after having a stroke. The young physiotherapist suggested exaggerating the movements to remind my leg how to move. As soon as she said this I thought of John Cleese and The Ministry of Funny Walks. I said 'do you mean like John Cleese? She said 'Was he a cowboy?' This made me feel quite old.
Has anyone made you feel old recently?

Pretending you're not old enough for your pension are you?
I hope the lunatic will be talking to herself for a while at lest tomorrow night.

Thank you, gabs. I'm better in myself, just have to re-train my arm and leg to work properly. I am doing most of what I'm told, the stopping smoking is proving very hard though.
Hugs to you and the father to be.

Yes it is as I am going through that as well right now I have to because otherwise if they are forced to do a double Lung transplant in 2-4 Years they will not do it if I smoke so I feel with you there, but I am sure that both of us can do it
But please take care and let me know how you are doing
Big hugs back to you from us both xx

Gosh, a stroke. I'm so glad you are able to be getting back to normal. You're just a little younger than I am so it feels a bit close to home.
I'm the only one who makes me feel old and that's every time I look in the mirror. Although about 5 years ago, a 20 year old called be a "fat old bag". That hurt me.
I feel just the same as I always did till I catch a glimpse of the person in the mirror. She is a total stranger and looks nothing like how I feel.

I know that feeling, I'm sure the person in the mirror isn't me.
The stroke was something of a shock as I always associated them with old people. There were a couple of girls in their twenties who had them. It just shows that you never know what is going to happen.

A friend of mine just had surgery for his back. He is maybe a year older than me. He felt great when he woke up and a few hours later said his face felt funny. They eventually checked him and he had had a series of mini strokes as he came out of the anaesthetic...but no-one realised what was happening!! This in a major hospital.

today, my co-workerwho will be 30 this year and i were chatting (she cut herhand last week and has a huge bandage on it) i was mentioning when i was in highschool, i got severe burns from a grumpy gas stove and because of it, failed my grade 9 typing class - back in the day when we had (gasp) typewriters!

When I was in high school, we did have electric typewriters, but I wasn't even able to get above maybe 35 wpm. Since I have been typing on the computer over the last few years I have improved my speed and accuracy a lot. Being able to backspace helps a lot though lol.

Thanks to all these new found computers, we do not have to work about carbon papers. It has also improved my typing speed a lot.

Each time I am tired and unmotivated of doing anything I think back, gee so not like me. It is at this time that I take a quick glimpse and say to self oh gosh I must be getting old.
Sorry to hear about your stroke and do hope you are back to normalcy.

Thanks, I'm well on the way to recovering now. According to my family I am too stubborn to let it beat me.

I've made a habit of feeling young! At 77, I do yoga 6 times a week for 45 minutes. No one with such a habit could feel old! I love my job, and am healthy as a pet pig! I'd suggest yoga for your therapy as well. Just take it easy to begin, and stay with it. My Avatar is myself doing an advanced Yoga Asana.

You certainly need to keep young and fit to do yoga. I may try some basic stuff but wouldn't have tied the advanced before the stroke.

I wish you a speedy recovery. I had to learn to walk again after having surgery on my legs when I was in the fourth grade. By the time they took the casts off my legs, I had lost all of the strength in my legs, and I had to go through some very intense physical therapy in order to become strong again. I literally had to learn to walk again just they way a baby has to learn to crawl then walk. I started out scooting along the floor on my hands just the way a baby does. It was a painful experience to say the least, but it was one of many events in my life that showed me how strong I am, and how much I can take.
To answer your question, I feel old all the time. I work in a restaurant with a bunch of teenagers. One of them asked me how old I am a couple of weeks ago, and when I told him, he then informed me that I am the same age as his DAD. Talk about feeling old LOL
Also, my niece was born when I was in the seventh grade, and she just had a baby on Monday. My nephew was born my senior year of high school (1995), and he works for his dad's business now. So yeah...I feel old all the time.

Set backs can prove our strengths or weaknesses. I have also found that my girls will help me if I let them and that I have true friends where I didn't expect them.
Thanks for your good wishes.

I started feeling old when I saw kids who were born the year I graduated high school were graduating high school themselves. It was even worse when I was working under a supervisor that was born a few months after me and I went to his daughter's wedding. I knew I was old then and it never ceases to amaze me that someone my age (at that time) could have kids old enough to be married. But I guess the fact that I never married or had kids could have something to do with that.

I have children and grandchildren and I think you notice the years passing more as you watch them grow.

I can believe it. The fact that I don't have kids probably makes me younger than someone my same age that has kids.

Oh, yes. You just did (make me feel old). I do not know John Cleese from Adam's off ox nor The Ministry of Funny Walks. I see that you're across the pond so maybe, that is because I'm not familiar with Brits. Or it could be because I am old. Sometimes I feel old when the younger people ask questions about something in history and I am able to answer correctly. Nothing can make you feel old as being able to remember Dwight Eisenhower's inaugural address.

Nannacroc, each time that I see my daughter I feel that I´m getting older. She is 12 years old, and she is 1.70 cms high. She is 2 cms, more than me. And if she argues me I feel old. Even I´m 38, but her arguing and sizes makes me feel old. However, it doesn´t matter if we are getting older, what it matters is HOW are we getting older. Hehe. Blessings!... Dainy

That is very true, Dainy and I intend to grow old disgracefully.

I was climbing up the stairs just yesterday and slipped on the rubber edge of a flight that's torn out and I got hit on my hips. When I was trying to get up I got halted a few times then it dawned on me, "Am I getting old?" Nice discussion.

There are times, I felt old for some reasons. I was thinking if there is a generation gap, but I tried to cope for some new changes. I hope you will recover fast, take it easy.
