Why are essays always left to the last minute?

Same problem here. I have to turn one in the day after tomorrow and I haven't even started. This "I'll do it tomorrow" attitude is not a good idea but I still always end up going with it.

I think it is human nature. When you hear a date that a paper is due, you naturally think that it is not urgent. My professor once asked the day before a paper was due how many people and started and 2 of 36 raised their hands.

I can only imagine that the person is so confident that they can accomplish the paper at the last minute. To later find it was not as easy as they thought to begin with.
Yet it is still a last minute decision repeatedly. I suppose at some point they realize the importance of not doing so and change their methods, I hope. lol
