Too Old for Facebook?

p1kelet told me the other day that parents that have FB accounts are "very sad". I had a litle thought about theis and decided that I may be "sad" but at least my 90 friends are friends (many online ones but no lesser beings for that fact) and not just someone that I was at school with X years ago and to whom I have not spoken since. Are you a "sad" FB user?

Well, I don't have any little "Eliclets" to tell me I'm sad, and I'm probably close to your age, and I have about twice as many friends as you have, I think the p1kelet is sad to think that we don't have a place on FB...
Heck, I'm sure one of our senior members, Hatley, would do quite well on FB if she wanted to join (heck, she may be there and I don't know!)

What's wrong about parents having FB accounts??? That smacks of thinking that older folks are 'just taking up space' that belongs to the younger generation. Little does p1kelet know that we are a short time young, and a long time old.
So, I guess I'm a 'sad' FB user. Not only have I made lots of friends that I keep in touch with here...but I've also found many of my old classmates...the ones that I wished that I hadn't lost touch with. The more 'sadness' the merrier!

I am not a parent, so I guess not. But I honestly do not think that's true. Why shouldn't parents be able to use social networking sites and other new technology just like everybody else? That makes no sense to me!

I would be but lots of people I've avoided for years wanted to be my friend. That's bad enough if they were just friends but they were relatives so the only solution was to stop using FB. I did meet one person who I now count as a good friend so it was worth joining.

It was worthwhile although sometimes when I talk to my friend my family think I'm talking to myself.

I'm not a FBer.
I don't see the point.
If someone wants to talk to me, they can:
a) phone me
b) email me
c) send a letter
d) visit me

Well I am sad too then, but I actually have more friends than my kids on my FB book account and use it mainly for games but do catch up with people from time to time too. My childrens friends add me not the other way round so can't be that sad really eh! Huggles. Ellie :D

Nope, I'm not a sad user. I'm on there but under the name of my dog! That way I don't have hundreds of people who think they know me asking to be my friend. I keep in touch with family that way. This newer generation won't pick up the phone and God forbid they should sit down and actually write a letter! They Facebook, text, etc. So I'm on Facebook but I obey a couple of rules--I don't embarrass my kids by posting on their accounts (they're in their early 20's and still conscious of that) and all my info is PRIVATE!

I'm not a "sad FB user" either. I am 45 and I enjoy it. I keep intouch with old friends, have made new friends and I have 2 grown kids that I chat with all the time on FB. I play a couple of the games also. I enjoy it. My kids think its great that I am on there!

I am the biggest, baddest, saddest FB user you'll find!! There is no single technology that is age based. I had some 15 yr old twit try to tell me that there was no way I was over 50 since I knew how to text. I was not gentle.
It was OUR generation and that of our parents and grandparents that built the foundations for the technologies these kids are claiming as their own. Well, hon - y'all don't own it. We love it, too, and if we want to use it, by God, we're going to use it!!!
How do ya like THEM apples, huh?

I was. Not now. It was too invasive of my privacy. I don't want every Tom, Dickk and Harry knowing what I'm reading, who my friends are, what I like and don't like, and which way I wear a bra. Stupid games people play find ways onto your wall and all. I deactivated and regret it not.

Oh yeah, very sad! I have about 300 friends on FB which fall into 5 different categories.
When I first joined FB, I was just getting into internet marketing and so I joined a few marketing groups and received plenty of friend requests. I am still "friends" with some of them, but have nothing to do with them really.
I also have many "friends" who request my friendship as I am into raw vegan lifestyles. So I have loads of raw vegan and just normal vegan friends who I have never met. There are also people in this category who I have met, but am not really close to.
Then there are those who I knew from my past but lost contact with over the years. This has been great catching up with a few of these people through FB.
There is also another group which is expanding and those are my friends from here who are also on FB. Am I friends with you there? I don't think I am?
Then last but not least are those friends that I also interact with regularly online and in real life locally. This includes my family who are all interstate.
My life on FB is pretty sensible. Lots of business marketing, interaction with real friends, but none of those FB games or silly quizzes!

I'm 29, and my husband is almost 65, which makes him three years older than my parents, and we BOTH have facebook accounts. LOL I don't think there's such thing as being too old for an FB account, just as long as these parents aren't embarassing their teens on line. LOL Fortunately 9 of Hubby's 10 kids are older than I am, so he doesn't have to worry about that.

huh?? I have to disagree with you p1kef1sh. My mom, my aunties and other old relatives have facebook account too... and I absolutely sure that they aren't sad... Casebook is a social site. One way to communicate or reconnected to your long lost friends... Old ones today are trendy and very young at heart. They are always "in" now... It's modern age... grandmas and grandpas are trendy now... I completely think that its cool... Its not because your old , you have no right or priviledge or heart to enjoy the benefits of online social sites...

I have a facebook account and i'm a parent but that does not mean i'm sad. I joined FB so i can keep in touch with my relatives, friends, classmates. But then i don't stay connected with FB most of the time. i just log in once in a while to check messages and post birthday greetings if time permits.

Hi,
I don't know if I am a sad user but I only use FaceBook when someone sends me an invitation or when I feel like playing checkers and it makes me happy.
