Hello Lotters,
Japan has been both prepared for years when it comes to Earth Quakes and Tsunami's disaster. remember they had experience this in the past. in fact, before World War II, they created a 10 meter wall but unfortunately, the tsunami was way bigger and it swept through every house there..
In our place, in strong rain or typhoon has caused terrible flood into cities and provinces. if these typhoons can cause so much flood to our community, what more if it's a LARGE Tsunami like those in Sendai,Japan. we don't even have a long 10 meter wall, not even a freaking GREAT WALL like CHINA
If this happens, No matter how ready we are, People are gonna DIE still.
So, be careful OUT there.

If a tsunami hits Manila Bay, Luneta Park would be destroyed and also Manila Hotel.
The Philippines has emergency disaster equipment like the ones I saw near MMDA at Nagtahan. I think this equipment would be 100% ready to handle a powerful tsunami. It took several week s I guess before Metro Manila residents recovered from the impact of Ondoy.
I also remember the SM Mall of Asia grounds which was once part of the ocean floor. A tsunami might destroy all the hardwork of those who developed that piece of land.

Hello Francis,
Yeah, I couldn't imagine important old land marks being destroyed in one day. Not to mention it's one of the best tourist spots that we have lately. Trouble there is that, not only OLD land marks are there, United States Embassy would also be crushed in the said tsunami since they are mostly located in the Manila Bay too. Too bad though, they should have thought of putting it away from the Ocean. Have a nice day.

I am wondering what will happen to the Philippines if the same Tsunami hit Japan will also hit the country. No preparation at all. The water will easily enter to any are because most of the seashore are very often. We don't have any advance technology to detect Tsunami unlike Japan but still Japan lost many lives. The only thing we can do is to pray that hope it will not happened to a poor country like Philippines.

Hello Julyteen,
People will be defiant at first. then, get stunned and start running for seeing that kind of waves hitting us. definitely ours will be a lot WORSE. our small waves from typhoons has killed people what more this one. probably people should try and listen for the warnings and drills.increase the chance of survival.

I agree with you Knight! The Japanese indeed are to be admired for their discipline and bravery in the face of the disasters that has come upon them--the earthquake, tsunami, radiation leaks and the bitter snow. But inspite of all these, they have remained true to the values that have been instilled in them, they responded to disaster in the manner that they have been accustomed to.

Hello Dreamnishu,
I feel so proud of them some how for not being tempted to steal. Probably they had some crimes like the Yakusa and some organizations there, but in this city we didn't see people looting and instead patiently went to the stores and bought some limited products. There should be looting as expected but didn't happen. Something that people had long forgotten and can be learn from the Japanese. Have a nice day.

I agree with you knight. We should be careful. No amount of preparation will make certain that no lives will be lost. Thats the reason why we call calamities force majeure or and Act of God because of the unpredictable cause and the unbelievable effect.
It happened in Japan and no matter how disciplined and prepared they were, they were still unable to foresee everything. Now they are experiencing an unbelievable disaster caused by the earth quake, tsunami and now a probable nuclear meltdown. It is an unbelievable chain of events.
We can only hope that it will not happen again anytime soon. Especially not to a third world country like the Philippines. It took us months to recover from the damages of typhoon, a tsunami of that magnitude would be terrible.

Hello Shattered,
I don't think I can consider it as “act of god” knowing that it's just nature that GOD created. Well, that's life but the species like dinasours didn't made a media scare out of these things. Now, some how I can be very envy of the Japanese. Meaning, they're strong because they resisted looting and trained in discipline. Something that I can dream for the Filipino People. Have a nice day.

Knight, an "Act of God" is defined as something beyond the control of man. It is not literal. It does not mean that God actually made something happen.
I do agree with you that if this happened in the PHL or in any other 3rd world country for that mater, looting would have been seen in the news in regular calamities. But given this kind of havoc, the reaction could be different, 1st or 3rd world country. I don't want to see it happen though just to find out!
The discipline of the Japanese is really something to be envied (in a good way!)

I am just living in Pasay City and actually worrying about Manila bay if that happens. I am already bothered about the earthquake that was already updated in news. I don't know when it will happen but when I asked my Mom she told me that could be on May 21 according to the news. I could also imagine what will happen to Mall of Asia which is my favorite mall if that thing happened. (knock on the wood)

Hello Metatronik,
I think people can still go to the Upper Floors for shelter if in case something this bad happens. MOA doesn't contain just one floor it has a from second to the fourth floor i think. so, if it's higher than 12 meters then you should go to the top floor. not to mention, it's one of the biggest MALLS in ASIA.

My boyfriend and I have discussed that last Saturday when we went to Imax. I also asked him if it will reach the second floor and he told me that usually it can't be but the first floor only. At the mall itself and even outside it they only have 2nd floor. As far as I know it is only the parking lot that it has 4th floor.
I agree on that it is one of the biggest Malls in Asia that is why it is my favorite and proud of it which is only accessible to my place.

Tsunami (in Japanese language means BIG WAVE)
This word derived from the huge waves that hitted Japan once upon a time ago.
My opinion, tsunami is hitting every part of the world especially those living along the shores.
The one that happened back in 2004 in Indonesia (remember?) have killed more than few hundreds thousands of victims which included foreigners.
It's going to keep on hitting every places bit by bit, and the impact from the earthquakes will be create larger tsunami in times to come.
Im sure the next coming one will be so huge that you will see the highways broken into pieces, large holes are everywhere, cars collide with each other and the falling of tall buildings and fires are everywhere.
This is something I have dreamt few years ago and I hope this will not become true.
Please stop war and start loving the earth.

Hello jacklintan,
thank you for the education information there, that is cool.
Yeah, the one in Indonesia was HELL hard and killed hundreds of thousands of people. so, with what happened to japan, they may have some how lessen the casualties because they are disciplined and prepared.

Well I happen to attend to a disaster preparedness seminar on our office in the past and from there we were brief on our situation how prepared we are in the event a major quake happens. I think that no matter how prepared we are in when a major one happens we are really unprepared for it at all. Casualties are to happen and we should just be thankful if we are able to survive it together with our family members.

Hello Rsa101,
There's no real preparation, it's just giving you an open eye. that's because most people won't take it seriously until the real thing happened. i think we should be thankful and take things the way it is as a blessing. otherwise, we would end up regretting not doing things we want to do before disaster happens.

hi letran do not panic as thats the last thing we should do. I am sure your country does have some disaster equipment on hand. I know your Philippines is in danger but cool heads must prevail. I have lived here in southern California for fifty years and ha ve only seen fairly mild earthquakes so am not panickoing if it happens okay if n ot okay. Here in Gold Crest we are prepared for earthquake but I am
]not spending time worrying about it at all.

hello LK,
This again proves that, there is power beyond man's science and technology.
No genius or smartest scientist can ever deny the fact that there is power beyond/ unseen.
See how Japan's technology, awareness and even prepared for any disasters, yet they were not able to determine when, how and where disaster strike and how big damages it might caused.
People must try to think and accept ..never underestimate the unseen power.
If that tsunami ever hit our country,i am sure any of the 3 islands here in our country might disappear in the Philippine map.
Let's be prepared, not for whatever kind of preparation, but spiritually.
Have a great day dear brother

Hello Jaiho Sis,
I think not only they are Earth Quake prone, they are also near the fault line same as ours. Well, whether we under estimate it or not, it's just going to hit us one day. But I hope it's not about loosing an entire island because that would seriously be sad for us. We are in the third world state now just to experience this things, I don't think the locals will survive that magnitude. Take care and have a nice day.

building a wall for tsunami protection is not long term because the height speed and volume of water is too much force add with the debris hitting the wall will destroy the wall so far tjere is not much man made defence against tsunami that hit japan becwuwe it is huge and hit and populates area .japan may survive the earthquake but the tsunami is too much

I heard healthy coral reefs decrease the damage of a tsunami, the healthier the coral reef is the weaker the tsunami's impact would be so manila bay is so screwed (hope it wont happen) The safest country now is Ireland (not the part of UK, the independent one) It has no more religious conflict, not in war against any country and it has not earthquakes and thunderstorms.

Hello Captain,
The problem is that our nature seems to be in peril, corals are being killed due to dynamite fishing. you know the ironic thing there is that US won't hesitate to help us because the US EMBASSY is near MANILA BAY (too close) for a tsunami. all we have to do is prepare.

Tsunamis, earthquakes, nuclear explosions-- I do not think that anyone are prepared for this kind of catastrophes. Though Japan might be advanced in technology, there are still situation that we people cannot dictate and assume. That is God's work.

Hello Visavis,
Not really, but it could wash out a lot of structures, not to mention if there's no high ground in the Metro cities it could wash away a lot of people. But they can take shelter in the buildings where they can stay there while the huge wave comes in. but I hope it wouldn't destroy the Brigdes most specially the ones in the MRT/LRT station. I think we have no budget for a good prevention. I mean, making a gigantic wall can cause Billions of pesos.

I agree but I am more interested on what we can do to preserve our lives if God forbid we ever caught ourselves in one.
I know many of us still have the chills even after the devastating storm named Ondoy. However, life does need to go on but it would be better if there's no tsunami looming in the horizon.
Technology has done many marvels in predicting or delaying damage caused by any waether disaster that may came our way but in my mind, I think we should exercise extra precaution and always be on alert on these kind of things. Too many devasting natural disasters have been occuring around the globe and many lives are lsot becuase of no preparation.
Keep your guard up and stay positive.

Hello Bhabycatch,
These countries are develop and indeed, it's really hard indeed here because we are a third world. And experiencing these could definitely cause Millions of Lives, not to mention we don't have technology for tsunami and earth quake warnings. Most specially our people are so less disciplined and can be chaotic. I can really think this would be bad scenario for us. Have a nice day.

What happened in Japan is a thing from what all countries and the whole Earth must learn. You can't be prepared for what mother nature is preparing to us. Changes are happening all the time and every time will be a thing that we are not prepared for. This is the evolution of the human been and of the Earth. We learn from mistakes, from thing that we see for the first time in our life or planet's life. Who knows what is going to be next?

Hello Yopyyop,
Well, we don't have the technology for being prepared from troubles of ours. Life is just like that, probably to us here. We should always do our best to pray and at the same time, prepare ourselves into this disaster and do find ways to survive with out taking advantage about each other. Have a nice day.
