How did you learn to dance?

I always had a big interest in singing, ever since I was a kid, but dance, not so much. But still mom forced me to take dance classes. I didn't like it back then but now I'm thankful mom made me take those classes. I have some friends who are really really shy and self conscious when it comes to dancing. But me, I dance anywhere lol. And that is how I started loving dance.
So do you have a story of how you learned dance? And are there any dances you want to start learning?? Do you love dancing??

I took some ballet when I was around 5-6 but I quit cause I couldn't do the splits. I know. What a five year old. But I still loved to dance anywhere and everywhere. When there was music playing then I would dance. I got a little shy about it later during my early teen years, but then I transfered schools and when the counselor was making my schedule she said all the gym courses were full (had to take one to get a Phys. Ed. credit.) but that I could take Dance and still get the credit.
I was like, "I can take dance?!?!?! Sign me up!"
I took dance all through high school just cause I loved it so much. I really miss it now that I'm in college. Been hoping that I could get enrolled in some dance classes outside of school but I really don't have the time or the money. Right now I just dance wherever whenever.

Nope. No dance clubs at my college.. I've already checked. It's a really small college and we do have a few clubs but not a whole lot.
I'm kinda beating myself up about not sticking with it. Not that I wanted to dance professionally, but cause I really wish I could have been one of those girls with that kind of beauty and grace. It's long past time to learn it professionally, but I think it's not ever too late to learn more for fun. I've been looking into adult ballet classes in my area. Not too many, but they're not extinct. Maybe you'll be able to find some too.

5-6years is the ideal age to learn ballet i hear. i had a huge interest in ballet when i was 15 and i wanted to learn it but someone told me i was old for it already. That discouraged me and I never learned ballet. I still do love how graceful but gentle at the same time the ballerina look.
Do you have clubs in your college? Like hobby clubs?? I'm sure you'll find a dance club there. Good luck and keep dancing ^^

Good luck with the hunt I hope you do find one. I'm sure there are some somewhere. Anyway I would love to learn ballet but like I said earlier, I got discouraged. But is it true? Do you get old to ballet??

Anyway I think you should take dancing classes if you want to learn. Its fun and if you're bored in the house someday, you can just dance around (well atleast that is what i do lol)
Have a good weekend to the both of you

Even if you didn't take some classes about dancing, you have only to feel with the music and to move and shake with it and letting your sensations talk and let your heart beats with the music

I also love to dance and if i could do it everyday i would.
I learned to dance from dance school as well. Took dance for 17 years and would not have changed my life at all. I love it so much and every minute of it was well worth it. It is worth it because i see people who dont have rhythm and i think wow that must be really bad for them, but then again there just having fun. I dance for me and i dont have to go to a club and get drunk to dance as it comes natural to me and is really my life and wouldnt dance probably if i hadnt been in dance school for so long.
Dance was my life for so long and i really wish it was still a part of my life, but there is not where around were i live that takes adult classes except hip hop and i would like to take other styles as well.
Keep dancing and enjoy it.

Wow 17 years is a long time. That is so cool . I think I would not have been able to dance if I hadn't taken dance classes when I was younger coz I didn't have any interest back then and I would of never learned it but I'm glad I did (even though it wasn't willingly).
Have a great weekend

i think that dancing is an art, you can just make your free moves and your personal style even if you cannot go and learn, you just have to move and feel the music like the trees move when they feel the wind blowing and they just go and return.. it brings you energy and brings you back your active life

I didn't learn how to dance. I guess it is just pure talent!
When I was a little girl, my parents would put me in the table and I would start dancing. That's what they say. They say I was the family's entertainer. I didn't take it as a career. I just danced when we go to bars or when we had to perform in school and that is just it. I hardly get the chance to dance anymore.

Well dear, I guess you are born with it or you just have to learn it.
My 4 year old son is more talented I can say. He can carry a tune even though I can't understand a word he is saying and can pretty much wiggle his butt. He has so much potential I can see. It is a matter of developing his talents.
So you were forced to take dance lessons?
Would you also insist to your children when you have one, something that he/she doesn't like?

Anyway, awwww your baby sounds so cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and yes mom forced me to take dance classes. erm for the second part of the question, I don't really know. I might have to have a talk with the dad and yeah actually I don't know what I'd do. What about you?

aww that is so cute. my mom told me when i was a toddler, i couldn't move much but would stay in one place and sing or blabber words lol so i guess my pure talent would be singing . I would never be able to dance if i didn't take classes when i was young, i think. Coz i know how much i hated going for classes, I would of never learned but thankfully i did go and learn =D

I don't know how to dance and I hate to dance! I don't know why! My both parents are good dancers in their time, but I didn't get that talent! Even in singing! I'm such a boring person!
But in all the dances, I'm having fun watching ballroom and I also would like to learn that and also tango if I will be given a chance! :)
See ya!

Wow really?? My mom is a good dancer but I can't say the same about my dad lol. I can understand your dislike for dancing. I didn't like dancing when I was younger too but singing, I always have loved singing, ever since I was a kid. maybe you should join some dance classes. Who knows you may go to become a great dancer in the future. Good luck.

I wish we had the money so all my kids could take dance lessons, not only is it physically healthy, but it teaches them balance and skill.
My childhood was the opposite of yours.. My mom was against dancing and I envied all my friends who took lessons. This was bad, because I'd watch dancing on TV and try to do some of the real fancy stuff and quite a few times I fell or once I even smash my face into the organ and busted my lip..(I think I was trying a turn and flip and it went bad)
Anyways, fast forward to when I was about 28 years old and a friend was teaching girls dance at our church. She offered for me to help since my own daughter started and she saw my interest. Soon, within months she had taught me basic Hebraic dance at her home and before I knew it I was on her dance team dancing at various churches and festivals..Unfortunately that was a while ago, now my friend has been gone for two years, cancer took her and the team broke up..:(
But I still dance at home, I had taught dance myself and made some choreography up for my own team that also broke up when half the people left the church. But I pray that I will have a team again, it was the best years of my life..:)

And eventually you did learn dancing, that is the biggest thing =D I hope you get enough people to make a team again. If i were there I would surely be in your team. Have a good day.

Well, i am a fan of Michael Jackson, don't know really how i started dancing. But ever since i was a child i start dancing. The first performance i ever did was when i was stil 4 years old. My cousin just let me join in their group then taught me some steps then boom i was like wow this is fun and got to feel the music. So after that i want to dance and learn new moves. Its passion. If you really don't like dancing then it will be hard to learn it.

Hiya TGL,
Never really learned to dance anything at all. I did love to pretend that I was a Ballet Dancer though and dance like they did but those were just dreams of a little Girl.
I was very flexible too so I could have got somewhere I suppose but never did as there were no Classes like that around me where I lived.
Now I just go with the flow of the Music I love to pretend I know how to dance Flamenco which I don´t at all but it´s nice to think that you can.

My mother and father used to dance all of the time. they are the ones that taught me how to dance. i can still remember my father showing me the steps and twirling me around. i still enjoy dancing to this day and sometimes i think of my father at those times. They are pleasant memories to have since he is gone now.

I learned to dance in elementary school. Our music teacher was very good at teaching us the various types of dancing, which is something they don't do now. I love dancing of all kinds, especially country-western and line-dancing. I've been participating in latin and jazzer size lately. What a great past time!

Yep dancing is a really good thing to do when bored. I always dance when I'm home alone and have nothing to do or sing :) Actually these two are the things I love the most. No stress. I could do it for hours :)

I've been a student of Ballroom Dance for about four or five years; had to stop after getting married in April 2005. In that time I've gone through four dance teachers. I've performed two Showcase Presentations before a judging panel (received written critiques, trophies, etc), video camera, professional photographer & live audience of peers. I've never had a dance partner. I've completed a final exam for the FATD award to Bronze standard in front of interstate judges, videographers, photographers & live audience of peers. During those years, I danced two private lessons per week, attended three group sessions a week & attended regular socials & Balls arranged by my school. I've been continuously assessed on over twenty different dance styles in the categories of Modern, Latin & New Vogue. I first took up dance lessons as a result of my work with the Church. For two years running, I transformed our very poor turnout Annual Ball into a highly successful event, which twice filled the Rec Center with over 635 youth from as far away as 870km (exceeding capacity - up from 180 the previous year).
While I had all my lessons at the same school, which I'm told taught mostly American - style dances, I did make a point of regularly attending our Northern Districts Ballroom Dance Club which was very British. The dance styles are quite different for the same dances, as was the format & ones conduct. I'm grateful for the opportunity, & would gladly throw myself into it all again if ever I got the chance.

I love dancing because I think it's in my blood. I had no classes for learning to dance, I just imitate other dancers! I feel so free and in good mood when I have the occasion to dance. I regret I had no opportunity to choose a dancing career when I was young. Still dancing makes me feel young.

I really really really love to dance and my daughter loves to dance more than me, I learned how to dance by fooling around and practicing moves that I wanted to learn how to do. I would study videos or when my friends dance and practice it until I got it right. I love dancing because I am a creative person and dancing is a perfect place to direct your creative energy, I have never took any dance lesson nor joined any dancing teams but I dance all the time with my children. Its a great way to stay healthy and feeling good. And if you're down its a great way to get your spirits back up.

i learned to dance from taking lessons as a child. i would ask others for their advice and criticism and judge myself against others i saw, both professional and other relations, friends and family. dance to music that appealed to me. you can't really pick a style in which to dance, you have to find one that is you. everyone can dance their own way, but there are people who cannot reach general expectations for certain types of dance.
