Help needed, suggestions please.

Hi, back in the day when i was young i was a very very good athlete, i could eat anything and still not put the weight on, it felt great. Later on though i gave up my sport at college and went into another line of work, i studied care. Since then really i have slowly gained weight. This is now getting me down, i enjoy my food and enjoy my beer, i have cut down on them both, i eat more healthier and i do a lot of walking. Still i am unable to shift the weight. I cannot afford to go to the gym or anything like that. So, my question to you lovely people out there is, is there a quick and simple way to lose the added weight that i have? It truly is getting me down and the doctors are unwilling to prescribe me anything. All help needed. Thankyou in advance for the suggestions that you make, also are these proven to work?

Trust me in the fact that I understand how hard it can be to lose weight as I am in with this struggle just as you. I know one has said no chicken but I must disagree. Chick is high in protein and nutrients that you need and if you eat any meat it should either be fish or chicken. Even better if it is a combo. Also, just getting out for a few minutes a day and walking will help you get come of the calories off from your food. Just keep trying at it and you will get there! I will also be following this discussion for some new things I can do to help with my weight loss! Happy Mylotting

It can get me down at times knowing that i have a big belly that hangs over my clothes. Reaaly do need to reduce my weight and tone my body up, get myself back into shape and want to stay that way. I am not a big lover of fish but i do eat it every now and then. I do tend to eat more chicken than anything as it is my favourite meat. I do go out for walks daily, each day i walk for over 30 minutes, i also chase my son around the local park and play football so i do get some exercise. It is great to get fresh ideas from new people, good that we can help eachother out. Hopefully i will get many more responses which can tell us things that are new, that we have not thought of, and hopefully some of them will help. Thankyou so very much for your response to this topic.

Alot of the things you do I also do and it seems no matter how much of this stuff I do I am still not losing the amount of weight I would like to. Maybe I need to add some running a sport or something into my routine.

Hi 13tyates, I guess if we do make alterations like eating less food, making sure that wee do eat more healthier food and also keep ourselves fit and active by doing as much exercise or sport as possible then surely it would make a difference, it may take it's time but it is better to get there in the end than not get there at all. Sometimes though we can find the wrong foods too tempting, like chocolate and cakes, etc. Thankyou so very much for your response to this topic.

you said you used to be a good athlete, then why dont you start training a little again, like running. maybe that will help to lose a little weight, or if you have a bike as they wont cost you anything.

When i was a good athlete it was when i was around the ages of 11 to about 17. I constantly trained daily. Now though it is more different is i now have the weight on me, back then i didn't and i was thin. Back then i also drank a lot less and was more active really as i played cricket and football for teams aswel as also being part of an athletics group. I do go on my bicycle when i can and i do walk a lot, i rarely use my car nowadays. Due to the fact that i work full time and i also have a 3 year old son to raise on my own it is more difficult for me to find some spare time to get other things done. I will try to fit more things in, even ask my son's mum if she could spend a little bit more time with him so that i can get a bit more exercise in. Obviously as my son gets older he could do some things with me but he is way too young at the moment and i don't want to be putting things off until he is older, i do really need to start making more changes right away without any form of delays. I guess i will just have to see what i can sort out, hopefully i can make some very quick changes to start seeing results quite soon. Thankyou so very much for your response to this topic.

Sounds like your metabolism has slowed down a little. Walking is very good for you so you should certainly keep that up. I heard that getting your heart beat to a certain level is very important to burning calories and staying healthy. Maybe walk faster. Like speed walking.

Hi JenInTN, I could never stop walking, i love it and it is so easy to do and costs nothing so it is great, i also do a lot of walking when working, and when i have my son i also can do a lot of running around after him, he does keep me active which is a good thing. I have never tried speed walking, i guess it is something different to try. I guess i could also take my pedometer out with me and see exactly how many steps i take in a day, i can then try and build up on this each week, it should help as i will set myself a goal to beat each week. Thankyou so very much for your response to this topic.

Hi ebuscat, i have never tried soya powder, i am not a big lover of rice but i do eat it sometimes. I guess it is about cutting out the wrong foods and drinks and making sure i don't eat as much and also getting enough sleep aswel. Thankyou so very much for your response to this topic.

Hi craigy, It appears you received a lot of great advice. I wanted to add to make sure you do some exercise regimen. Exercising, eating properly and drinking lots of water will increase your metabolism. Eating the above recommended meats is okay with smaller portions but also dependent on how you cook it also. Try to avoid fatty fried meats, grilled and boiled is less fattening. Best of luck with you weight loss.

I agree that i have had some great advice on here from my fellow myloters. I know that water really can help, i just lost the taste for it but as suggested earlier i will add something like lemon juice to just add that little bit of flavour. I do walk a lot and have a run around and play football with my son. I am also active in my job aswel as looking after my 3 year old son so i am always up and moving around, hardly ever still really. I rarely fry things so that has been something good to get rid of. I do prfer to grill and boil, have been doing this more over the past year. I know it will all take time, even cut down my portion sizes. Thankyou so very much for your response to this topic.

Hi jhonnysherlin, I do not remember when i last had a dance, i guess that this would be a different way of keeping fit, and i could also wealk there which could help, but again cost is involved so i would have to check that out, as i work so much and i am a single parent it would mean that i would have to find a night class, which is fine. I guess this could make a difference, and it would stop me from snacking at night also. Thankyou bvery much for this suggestion and thankyou for your response to this topic.
